Hey, I haven't seen that; could use a good laugh. I guess the Christmas one is the only one I've seen parts of.

The "some of Mel's best friends (and employees) are Jewish" defense we are now hearing can be taken two ways.

Frankly, I can better understand the ignorance of somebody who is isolated in a neo-Nazi compound in Idaho. For Mr. Gibson, there is really no excuse.

That neo-Nazi compound in Northern Idaho was burned to the ground. The founder died, and his thugs in crime have moved on to some other state. (Sorry to the other state)

A human rights activist bought the land and is using it for educational purposes if my memory serves me correctly.

It also says:

  • because though conventional wisdom says that Gibson has been sober since the early '90s, some of those close to him acknowledge that he has been on and off the wagon for years.

"I have been with Mel when he has fallen off," says producer Dean Devlin, who had spent the afternoon before the arrest with Gibson, "and he becomes a completely different person. It is pretty horrifying."

Rob Schneider,actor-comedian,stated that he would never work with MG at any level and not under any circumstances--Schneider is half-jewish--Also,CNN is reporting that not one of Mel's myriad number of former fellow actors have come to his defense, which of course is no surprise, since his remarks are indefensible
No chance to work with Rob Schneider?

Dang, such a blow for Mel Gibson.....he had BIG plans to work with Rob Schneider some day.....

Our family LOVES all of them, I grew up watching them. My mom still plays the Christmas one every year starting at Thanksgiving!

From latimes.com page 1
Quoting Jodie Foster...

"It is a horrible disease, and it affects everyone differently," Foster said. "I do not have personal experience with addiction, but I have seen it take many paths in people I know. For some, it is a soft slide off the barstool, and some experience true psychotic episodes."

She points to friends Christian Slater — who has had many drunken run-ins with the law, including a 1997 scuffle with a police officer after allegedly hitting his girlfriend — and Robert Downey Jr. as examples of the personality-changing effects that drinking can have on the alcoholic.

"Would I have believed Christian Slater, who is the nicest, gentlest man in the world, would hit a woman? No," Foster said. "Or Downey, you cannot find anyone in the film business who does not love Downey, and look at some of his exploits."

"Mel is honest, loyal, kind," she said, "but alcoholism has been a lifelong struggle for him and his family."

and....

From latimes.com page 2

Gibson and his wife are well-known for their generosity. Over the years they have given more than $17 million to a charity that provides medical treatment to needy children around the world; more recently they paid for the $2-million operation in which conjoined infants from Guatemala were separated.

Devlin remembers how, during the filming of "The Patriot," Gibson went into a small South Carolina town and single-handedly financed the building of a battered women's shelter.

I'm still a Mel fan - I hope he truly doesn't believe the things he spouted, and I'm glad that he apologized before going into rehab. I hope he can recover and continue to do good in the world. I'll save my anger for those who kidnap, abuse, molest and kill.

It seems like Mel has done alot of good with his money. Lord knows he has enough of it, but even so he does seem very generous. I hope he can get hiself out of this mess. We will see in time I guess.

I've made it clear I am no fan of Gibson, but that was EXACTLY my thought, Sandra. :D

Sorry, IM, I meant no offense to your state. That was just the one neo-Nazi community I could remember as an example. I certainly didn't mean to typify the people of Idaho as neo-Nazis.

(Though we all know you guys start all the wars! :D )

Rob Schneider won't work with Mel Gibson? That will put the final nail in Mel's career right there. No fart-based movies for you, Mel. Who's next? Carrot Top? Gallagher? Gary Coleman?

My shock at what Mel Gibson said is only slightly greater than Rob Schneider thinking he might be in a movie with him.

Well we have heard from the "naysayers" now the people with something positive to say are going to start trickling out. I predict a groundswell of support for Mel.

I wonder how his wife Robin is doing?

LOL! I didn't think you were stereotyping! That compound has been a sore spot for alot of Idahoans and I for one am so happy it's gone!

Have a great night, Nova. :blowkiss:

I'd say it really is just nothing more than him being a alcoholic.
God knows I have said and done the most outrageous things when I have been drunk.
Alcohol is not a good look, very messy makes people
Everything in moderation is the key but if only it were that easy......:p

Tara Reid comes to mind for me...she has really, really messed herself up (from all outward appearances). I think Lindsay Lohan is getting a real hard, partied out look, too. Very sad.

I'll agree about both you mentioned - especially considering just how young Lohan is!
