I would have thought the visitation would need to be supervised at the very least until a complete investigation has been done. Strange. Maybe an attorney can jump in and tell us why that did not happen. Given the rants and substance abuse issues I wouldn't want the child to be alone him. I honestly don't think he would hurt the child but still... a precautionary measure.

He was arrested for DIU in 2006. He got 3 years probation and had to attend AA meetings.
I suppose since his probation is over no one can check whether he is drinking again.

My opinion after listening to the tapes is he feels very betrayed by O.
And now, after finding out she taped him it will get even worse.
Mel- check yourself into therapy to get over her and so you can figure out how to have a loving relationship with your daughter.

I amazed at how some of you are acting as if he had this wonderful problem free life just until he met Oksana.

JJenny, I have yet to see anyone defend his current or past actions or believe he had a trouble free life before all of this. If someone has come out and said that I would appreciate if you would point out the post.

I take the comment "she knows how to push his buttons" as an effort to blame her for his behavior, as if he would be perfectly behaved if she didn't push his buttons. And that isn't the only comments that blames her for his behavior.

No one is "blaming" Oksana for Mel's behavior, he is the blame for his actions and the words that come out of his mouth. However, it would be like someone taking a bat to a hornet's nest and then whining about being stung. JMO. He's wrong for his part, she's wrong for hers.

I didn't read that the same way. I took it to mean that some people can bring out the worst in people that already have problems. I guess we read things through our own understanding of them. I assume people do not believe Gibson is a great guy with a lily white past.

I guess it's unheard of to try and understand why someone who seeminglyhad it together at one time can end up like Mel. Or to have any compassion for someone who obviously has a problem, mental or alcohol or something else. Since some of us aren't demanding his head on a platter, I guess that means we defend him and think it's perfectly fine the things he said. I am more than capable of having disgust for his words/actions while also wanting to know "why" and having some sympathy for what he's going through.

Wasn't that in 2006? Because as far as I know, prior to that he never acted that way. And that was all VERY public. So why did Oksana crawl into bed with such a devil?!? You can't have it both ways.

I really never paid him that much attention, I just knew him to be a pretty good actor and married w/ a large family to the same woman for many years. He has no "excuse" but maybe there is an explanation to his behavior. Explanation doesn't = excuse.

Gibson, while talented, had a history of being off the wall and unfaithful to his wife. O knew this. In fact she hooked up with him while he was in hiding from his last fiasco. She even made comments in the press that she knew. So she's either stupid or greedy. I think she is both. Do I feel bad for Gibson? Let's just say I'm glad nobody here has heard me drop the C-bomb when I've been pissed off, recorded it and put it on the news. Because I have dropped the C-bomb more than few times. Tar and feather me LOL!

Those tapes are horrible, but seriously - the part about him "deserving to get blown" SHEESH! Why is it that he feels he deserves this?

He was arrested in 2006, but I sincerely doubt this was his first time driving under the influence. According to wikipedia, he was banned from driving in Canada (for three months) after he rear-ended a car while driving intoxicated there in 1984.
