Hard evidence? Those tapes are frightening. They are all I need. NOTHING justifies the death threats.

Okay, I just don't find those threats serious and credible, but I respect the fact that you do.

In terms of evidence, I would need to hear eye witness testimony. I would also like to see forensic analysis wrt the damage done to her teeth and if it corresponds to her testimony. I'm not sure about the admissability of any prior acts of domestic violence, but it would definitely sway me if Mel's ex were to testify against him.

The man is not a world leader, he is not a spiritual adviser, he is not royalty, he is simply an actor with money and drinks to much. I don't know this woman, but I have a feeling there is more to this story then we will ever know, or care to know. I just hope they are able to amicably resolve this for the babies sake.

Hey I'm a woman; a strong woman, an attractive woman and even though there are very real, serious problems with domestic abuse I can't negate the fact that there are some women out there that do lie, they do manipulate, they do vile and evil things themselves. I've seen it. To state otherwise is just being one-sided and blinded by some kind of emotion that is pissed off at men. Tickery and deceit comes in both genders and in between.

Now Linda - I did not say she was the vile one, read again; I said women can be and denying that is oversimplification. True I can only make judgments based on how she is handling this situation. It's a bit like the ladies who are famous for having no talent releasing their own sex tapes and then acting like it was a big surprise.

I also said that I agreed with Mel only that she was a fake boobed (fact) (my opinion). She does indeed have implants - so what? It's a fact and if I record someone famous in a phone call, it just doesn't accidently IN IT'S ENTIRETY show up online at a gossip website like Radaronline. It's Okto-sana to me. What ~ she says she didn't leak them and you just believe her? Oh, OK. And in the real world I live in; women don't go for older guys with big hairy ears unless they are rich or famous so yes, I figured it out. If no one else cares to look at that reality that's fine with me but save the accusations and the "how are we to know"s because at some point I just have to keep putting on my Captain Obvious costume and prance around.

Mel's actions are reprehensible. But she is no "super victim" either. Maybe she should have found out what kind of guy he was before she moved in and had a baby with him and dragged her other kid along for the drama. Several species of guppies require more confirmation of a good mate. They are both bonkers.

It is ironic to me that we have a main thread regarding intimate partner abuse and yet this woman is being pilloried here. As a family law attorney, I have seen many cases where the first thing an abuser says is that the victim is a liar, usually that he or she's mentally ill. It's a tactic. Abusers are good at hiding the abuse and portraying themselves as innocent. It has been a hard fight for victims to get the protections they deserve and to be taken seriously. I also know many victims who failed to report due to intense shame about the event and being victimized. I can imagine that being a celebrity and married to one makes that feeling worse. But sometimes they gain the strength and courage to finally speak up.
I don't know who released the tape to Radar. If she did, I don't like that. But there are so many others who could have. In many cases, LE, medical personnel, even sometimes staff at courts or law offices are lured by the money businesses like Radar pay for such stuff. Why do some automatically assume it is Oksana who did it?
The guy, Mel, has proved himself to have serious problems with his personality, and morality. I have seen nothing that substantively proves the same with regard to Oksana. But he is a rich, well known superstar and she is not. She also married a wealthy, older celebrity. I guess that means she is a huge liar? I don't get it.

For the most part I agree with you. I think she had to record it in order to have any credibility but I have a hard time believing Radar got those recordings from anyone but either her attorney or her.

Dating an older, wealthy celebrity and getting pregnant doesn't automatically make her a huge liar, but it does allow me to infer that she is an opportunist and women like that have issues of their own. I'm not blaming her for his actions, but she wanted the exposure of celebrity and her life is open to dissection and criticism as a public figure now.

Yesterday we had flipped on NG. We thought she would be covering the K. Horman story, but it was about Mel Gibson.

My Husband said this after listening to him rant on the phone:

1. Good lord, what is wrong with him? He sounds like a fifth grader in a word fight.

2. He hit her? He really hit her with a child in her hands? If someone did that to my daughter I'd be in jail and there wouldn't be no bail Kat.

3. In (almost 2 decades of marriage) I have never been that mad at you Kat. Good grief, if I had said those things to you or put my hands on you I wouldn't be sitting here. You'd done cleaned my clock for me in more ways than one.

Yeah, MG was way off base. I don't care how mad he was or what she did to make him think that it was provoked. I don't care what she really has done. Walk away. Both of them need to walk away. He needs to because he is showing the world what it's like to live inside his head and frankly that's a skeery place from what I've seen. She needs to walk away from anyone that will treat her like that even if she has to do it with only the clothes on her and her baby's back (she needs to think of Nicole Simpson IMHO).

But both need to step back on behalf of that baby. JMHO.

I do not feel deceived. As I stated in one of my first posts in this thread, this is par for the course in Hollywood and among the rich and famous. As much as I think Mel Gibson is gifted, that never made him a saint in my eyes. Celebrities are surrounded by temptation in many forms and I doubt anyone would have the ability to withstand what they are tempted with and what they are tempted by given their fame and financial status. They live in a completely different world than you and I. It warps them.

I live next door to a very famous iconic singer. I see the way people hang on and suck up to celebrities. This is why I look at this woman Oksana with a VERY skeptical eye.

I'm a guy. I have never - ever - in my life hit a woman and I do not understand how any man could do so other than to preserve his own life. No matter what is said in "provocation", there is always the option to walk away. He has stated that he did hit her if I heard correctly. There is no justification for that. Period. No matter who she is, no matter what she did, unless she was putting his life in danger at that very instant.

Men that hit women make we want to puke.

Furthermore, I could not use such language to address the mother of my children. I cannot fathom it. No matter how angry I am at Mrs. (and I really don't get angry), after the pain and discomfort she went through to bring our children into this world I owe her my love and respect, and I need to defend her, not hit her, not belittle her.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I don't feel deceived. There is not much difference between celebrities and the guests on Jerry Springer except for a few dollars. I remember reading a while back that in the late nineteenth century actors were put in the same class as prostitutes so go figure. It's sad how in this country there seems to be this unhealthy idolization of them. But heck VB it's fun to gossip about them as though we know them isn't it?? ;-D

IMO Mel's anger is more at himself than anything Oksana has done. Mel's been a middle aged fool (well, it sounds like he's been one for a while) and the chickens have come home to roost. No one's character is snow white in this melodrama(except the baby girl caught in the middle). Bottom line-there are lessons to be learned and morals abounding in this sad story and the biggest one (for me anyway) is there is no excuse for a man to touch a woman holding a child.

I am quite certain that his own children have heard things like this from him before and have probably seen things that no child should be witness to. He is an alcoholic and when they are drinking they usually hold nothing back especially in a private setting regardless of who is around them. If you go a few pages back and watch the video of his interview with Diane Sawyer after his DUI, he makes constant excuses for his drinking even in front of his children and again states his belief that Jews are responsible for all the wars which is just stupid and racist.

I don't believe that a person gets angry and suddenly starts using words that are not in their normal vocabulary. If we look back at his past behavior, like his sexual slur to the female police officer regarding her breasts during his DUI arrest, it is obvious that MG has absolutely no respect for women period. The same holds true for his comment on the tape about how he "owned her" and that she "deserved it" when she brings up him hitting her. I sure never heard him deny it. Also when he threatened to kill her he said "you know I am capable of it". All of those things are tell tale signs of an abusive personality. I lived with one who was also an alcoholic so I know first hand what they are like and it is not pretty.

I will qualify this as rumor although it was discussed on Entertainment Tonight and The View, but they didn't give an original source for the information. Supposedly Oksana was offered $20 million by MG if she would not go public with this, and would split child custody 80/20 and she refused because she does not want MG to have custody of their baby even 20% of the time. Since she was never married to him there will be no spousal support and there is no way that she will get over a million dollars per year in child support even with the best of settlements. If this story is true then she obviously has the best interests of the child at heart much more than money. I certainly would not want my child around him.

From my experience men that are physically abusive normally don't punch a woman in the face during their "first" physical altercation especially when she is holding a child in her arms. They usually start with verbal abuse, then financial and sexual abuse before they resort to pushing/shoving and then physically strike in other less obvious places first....it is like they build up to the full on facial assault. I know we have a number of posters on this board that were in abusive relationships and I would like to hear their opinions on this gradual pattern that I have mentioned.

I personally have no doubt that MG is abusive, a bigot and a few other names that I won't list since I don't want a time out. I hope he is prosecuted to the full extent of the law and I have a feeling that she has the evidence to back the charges up. I will not condemn this woman for gathering evidence of his abuse and I will never watch his movies. Just the sight of him makes me sick to my stomach.

I haven't read the whole thread, so please forgive me if this has been asked. But - why oh why do these recordings sound SO fake??? Why is the woman's voice so loud and clear in comparison to stupid Mel's and so scripted-sounding?? I just don't get it. I don't care enough about this case because I can't stand Mel Gibson but I heard the recordings on Jane Velez Mitchell and this has been bugging me.

I admit I am bit cynical about people under such circumstances. Even my neighbor's children are not immune to being used by people who want to be their friend because of who their parent is. Even they attract the worse kind of kids at school - the pushy, social climbing types. They think everyone is so interested in them because people are nice. People in these circumstances never know who their true friends are. It's sad.

We agree that nobody deserves what Mel was dishing out -- but that guy had "OUT OF CONTROL CRAZY TRAIN" written all over him before she hooked up with him. Best to stay out of the path of those.

So I guess I will continue to question the motives of this woman and be on my cynical way <G>!
