I have never, ever suggested that Knox, Sollecito and Guede were convicted because of the way they dressed, their gymnastics, or any other ridiculous attention getting tactic they used.

Let's put it on the record, one more time, that those murderers were convicted based on the evidence presented in court. That is the one and only reason that I believe they were convicted.

Then why do you keep bring up something you yourself deem to be irrelevant?

It's quite relevant. The family has attempted to present the Italian court as everything from anti-American to having it in for Knox to being a backwards, medieval system. Part of that attitude is reflected in showing up for court in flip flops, very short shorts, sleeveless shirts and other inappropriate outfits.

I don't think so. It is relevant that Knox and her family attended court as though they were dressed for the beach. This speak directly to the fact that they did not respect the Italian court process - that they wanted everyone to think that it was a big joke.

No, it doesn't. As we have explained many times to you: standards of dress on the West Coast of the U.S. are much more casual.

Should Knox and her family have done their homework and dressed more like Italians in court? Yes. "When in Rome" and all that. But maybe--just maybe--they were preoccupied worrying about a runaway prosecution.

Accusing Knox' family of every crime under the sun is narrow-minded. Bringing up the clothing again and again is just mean-spirited.

Nothing about AK's outfits caused the miscarriage of justice in this case.

I'm not buying that, especially after seeing that the witnesses in the Anthony trial are quite capable of knowing how to dress for court.

No, Americans for the past 2 decades are always dressed for the beach. A few years ago we had a big family party in a hotel ballroom, and people came in shorts, tees, it was unnerving. I see it in places like the Roosevelt Hotel in NYC, once an elegant venue, and even at night events, people schlepp in in a hodgepodge of mismatched attire.....The Knox family is NOT unique, and I think they are all actually really cute, the whole lot of them.....

Miscarriage of justice? No, there is no miscarriage of justice.

From the letter:

It seems indeed rather curious and disturbing that in a democratic and liberal state, despite what is required by the Code of Criminal Procedure about the need for absolute and unambiguous evidence, it is possible to judge a citizen convicted only on “psychological” bases after a police interrogation.

Otto, I was stunned at how well dressed they were. This is NOT typical. And really, George Anthony could not even be bothered to put on a tie and jacket to testify on national television under a famous renowned judge for his daughter's death penalty case. The kids are up to something new, and i think the Knox clan is always clean and neat, and they are so cute and I do not think they are in any way offensive. Curt and Chris and Deanna all look very innocent and unassuming to me....

He's got the hots for Knox.

So in other words, you and Fred didn't really read the article and made up that it:

1. Shows Girlanda is "out of his department"
2. Shows that Rafaelle's lawyer is "mixing politics with law"
3. Shows that Girlanda "doesn't know sqaut about the case"

Do you have anything other than ad hominem attacks against anyone who speaks out against the convictions?

Well, the appeal process is to determine this. We do not know yet, and it may well be that a gross miscarriage occurred. Wait for the independent panel to do its job...........

Unfortunately, Malkmus, they are referring to that member of Parliament who stupidly said he dreams of Amanda, and asked her to hug him, and he went a bit over the top. I think he does not so much "have the hots" for her, but may be in love. Even so, the 11 lawmakers, Rome, the Associated press----it is too late, the train has left the station, and it will be good for Knox and Sollecito, perchance.......

On Girlanda: He also said in another article interview that when Amanda hugged him it was surreal.

Girlanda also recalls his own dreams, in which he and Knox are sitting in a taxi crossing a bridge heading toward JFK Airport in New York City. She hands him her pink iPod, which is full of Beatles songs. They talk about bicycle riding and truffle hunting in Umbria. Their conversation goes on for several minutes as they drive the periphery of New York. “The dialogue continues until I wake up in my bed in my house in Gubbio,” he writes. “Then I realized that my journey in the American taxi together with Amanda was only a dream.“
Girlanda admits that it “wasn’t my first dream about Amanda. And it won’t be my last.”

Oh, I know who they are talking about (Girlanda is the one who wrote the book). My problem is in claiming the article demonstrated any of the three points above stated by them, and then in trying to discredit him (as is done with Hampikian, Hendry, the CPJ, Preston, etc.) with personal attacks. I think saying he is in love with Amanda is stretching it too. He wrote about a dream in which she is free, yes? Or was it sexual in nature?

Haha, well that is strange. Hopefully, the other 11 lawmakers haven't expressed the same sentiments. That being said, his reasons for doubting the convictions seem completely valid.

If you think you have more experience in West Coast courtrooms than I, we should compare notes. Florida is on the East Coast of the U.S.

that is the extent of it all, plus he had many visits with her in prison. Not really a smoking gun, IMO.

I'm not big on "dressing up" myself, but I'm often surprised at what people wear to the witness stand even when the trial is shown on TV.

People also dress casually for the theater and on airplanes nowadays, as opposed to when I was a kid.

It struck me as so, but maybe that is my own bias:eek:
