More sad info (BBM):

Mexican authorities charged 28-year-old Fidel Barragan with aggravated disappearance in connection with her death and could be eyeing additional charges as the investigation unfolds. Telemundo Atlanta, who spoke to Morales’ family, reported that Barragan was Morales’ boyfriend.

Sounds like her students and those who would have been her students in years to come, have lost a real treasure. And her family will never get over this loss.
Who knows where her future may have taken her? Who knows what a difference this one woman might have made in the US and the world? Another good one is gone.

So begins the second part of this sad situation -- a suspect arrested, her boyfriend. Hoping the evidence is solid, for her sake, and for his.
Oh, her poor grieving family, and for her grieving school family as well.
I think about her young students... How to deal with their knowing she won't be back. SMH. Those poor little children.

Just awful. :(

I'm wondering why she left her GA school where she taught so suddenly. I mean, what did she say to the principal to OK her departure? I can't imagine that would be OK unless a relative had died.

first-grade teacher Alexandra Morales took planned personal leave recently but did not return late last week as planned.

The leave is described as "planned", so I don't think it was because of a death in the family.

I still am curious what the "planned" leave was all about. Especially during the beginning of school in GA.

This article has a little more info (translated using google translate so please disregard some errors in their translation).

"The details that have been known so far related to the murder of the 24-year-old teacher Alexandra Morales, who was an elementary teacher at a Lawrenceville school are disturbing, and suggest that her body would have been dismembered and her parts scattered in different places.

Morales traveled to Mexico on vacation and never returned. Mexican authorities found her body and arrested her boyfriend, as the main suspect.

The young teacher had gone to Mexico invited by the captured to a concert, and was seen for the last time attending the same in Zapopan, near Guadalajara.

A source close to the family told El Nuevo Georgia earlier this week that the young woman had been invited by her boyfriend, Fidel Barragán, 28, whom she had met here in the United States.

Morales traveled to Mexico on October 27 and the concert was on the 30th, the same day his family practically lost track of him.

On November 3, the teacher had planned to return to her work, but she did not, and by that date the family members had already reported her missing.

The groom is declared missing

That same day, and as relatives of Morales's boyfriend would have told a digital news channel in Mexico, Barragán would have left the house.

“According to relatives, the young man went to a concert in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, last Saturday, October 30, 2021 and returned to Chilpancingo, Guerrero, Mexico, on Wednesday 2021, went home, took out clothes, and He went out telling his parents that he would later tell them where he was going to be and since then they have not heard from him… ”, wrote the portal Arturo Mundo Catalan, attaching a photo of Barragán and another where he was apparently seen at the concert.

They find her body

The Mexican authorities found the body of the teacher in the metropolitan area of Guadalajara. Shortly after they arrested her boyfriend, Fidel Barragán, 28, who is being accused of aggravated disappearance, although more serious charges could be added, such as femicide.

The authorities began their search on November 7, "along the free highway to Zapotlanejo," where they found "human remains," according to a statement from the Jalisco State Prosecutor's Office.

As part of the investigation, “a white Polo-type Volkswagen brand vehicle was found on Paseo del Real Country avenue, in Zapopan, which was rented by the victim upon arrival in the city, the statement said.

His body would have been dismembered

Official sources who spoke anonymously to the Univision news channel in Miami, said that Morales's body had been dismembered and that the brutal murder had been committed in an apartment that the young woman and her boyfriend had rented in Zapopan, Jalisco.

Traces of his body were found in various places in the Guadalajara metropolitan area.

The main suspect is her boyfriend

According to the statement from the Prosecutor's Office, as part of the investigation, evidence was obtained that points to the participation in Morales's disappearance of an individual identified as Fidel B., who the family has said is the young woman's boyfriend.

"Said subject, originally from Chiapas, will remain in preventive detention for a year as a precautionary measure requested by the agent of the Public Ministry," said the entity.

The father and a brother of the young woman traveled to Mexico to search for her remains and bring them to the United States for burial.
