Police there have searched for Caley Manning of Mount Washington, but have been unable to find her. Manning went on vacation with some girlfriends, staying at a resort on an island near Cancun.

One night she stayed out to explore the town on her own. Even before Manning was reported missing, witnesses reported seeing a woman go into the ocean by a sea wall near Hotel Rocamar.

Yes, from reading the article, it sounds like she was an avid swimmer and went for a swim in what turned out to be treacherous waters.

There is some disparity in the reporting of the story. The boyfriend (who was stateside when she went missing) said she intentionally went in for a swim - but the locals who witnessed it, several making the emergency call to 911 said it was 2 a.m. and she FELL into the water. The mother of a Mount Washington woman last seen vacationing in Mexico last week believes her daughter drowned.

“Our Caley Manning is not missing. We’ve lost her to the sea,” Falcon Taylor, who identified herself on Facebook as Manning’s mother, wrote in a Nov. 19 post.
