This makes sense. Thanks for the first hand experience. It always seemed odd to me that Jenny told JR about being out of wifi range, but if she had researched her possible route, it would be a kindness to warn him, rather than just go off the radar and leave him in panic mode. Unfortunately, that information slowed down his reaction time.
JMO

My guess is that she told him about possibly going out of wifi range because that is how they were communicating, and she did this while still with wifi.

I know that some online sites give 18 hours for the Oaxaca to Cancun drive, but I think that is very optimistic. My Lonely Planet guide book for Mexico gives 12 hours for Oaxaca to Villahermosa and 12-14 hours from there to Oaxaca. These are times for the public bus, and in my experience of having taken buses over these routes more than a couple of trips, you would be lucky to make those stated times. Jenny had figured on 4 days of hitchhiking to get from Oaxaca to Cancun (if I remember correctly?), so in my opinion she had done her homework and seemed to be planning on spending the nights off the road on her way.

The southern highway that crosses the Yucatan, through Escarcega and Xpujil, is sparsely populated with few towns of any size. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was no wifi and maybe no cell phone coverage in areas on that stretch of road. Maybe truckers would communicate with CB radios there. I could easily be wrong about this though, as all I am going on is what I have personally seen of the area. Jenny might have felt the same about the possibilty of loosing wifi there, whether correct or not.

Thanks for the intersting link and info. Whether a case is brought in a state where defamation hasn't been decriminalized might depend on whether either Kugar or Corona has a significant presence there. I doubt it will happen but it's always interesting to think outside the box.

I suspect Corona has significant sales everywhere in Mexico, and that might be all they would need. I hope you are right about the slim chance of this happening.

If JR is mouthy the way he is on his Find Jenny FB page, he will make enemies outside of finding Jenny. If he goes after beloved beer and local drinkers find out, I don't think Corona or Kruger would need to take any action to shut him down.

I meant to write Cancun.

But why would Jenny say that she would possibly be off the reception grid for 3 days?

She wouldn't have known that. Jmo.

Especially since she didn't know how long it would take her to get to Cancun or at least a wifi area.

Just saying.

So maybe Jenny told him that for her own reasons. Jmo.

Also. What wife doesn't give her husband her new phone number while on a 3 week solo trip in another country ?

And Jr was okay with that?

If I was going to hitchhike from Oaxaca to Cancun, I would tell my loved one the same thing. Especially if I was familiar with the southern route and how sparsely built up it is. Even discounting that, if I thought I would be spending much of those four days either standing on the side of the road hitching, or in a vehicle, I would say the same thing...'I might be out of touch for the next four days'. I've done this numerous times over the years in my travels, if I thought there was a chance I wouldn't have internet access to send emails home. Just a precaution so the people at home don't worry if in fact I don't find access to the internet over a given stretch of time.

Well I would love to see which areas of that route along the main highways or passages that have wifi.

Because she would likely want to hitch a ride that was heading down a major freeway or passageway at some point.

So does anyone have a detailed map of the most likely way that the truck driver would have taken if he was seriously going in that Cancun direction?

One that doesnt want to talk to her husband...

Don't you mean a four month solo trip (early March to early July) in three countries (Mexico, Cuba, U.S.--NYC)? Even worse!

I doubt JR was OK with that, but what could he do?! I'm not sure who financed this trip, but I guess he could have refused to give her money.
JMO

One that doesnt want to talk to her husband...

Exactly. And I would add...one who doesn't want to talk to her husband except on her own terms and at her own convenience. Hence, wifi only communication. But I believe she used her phone to call her mother every few days.

I also found the combo Mexico, Cuba, New York City very odd.

Did Jenny say she was going that route in her daily posts or did we get that info from JR?

Hmmmmmm....without researching, my recollection is that her itinerary info is only from JR. Perhaps someone else has a link, but I honestly don't remember that she talked about Cuba or NYC.

I always thought the combo was odd too, but if she was trying to conquer her fears, I guess it makes sense. :dunno:

Agree. And sometimes I feel that Jr wants us to find his wife that up and left him and he possibly jmo knows this. Jmo.

Because he is obviously not stating why Jenny didn't want to give him her new number. Plus he never even stated about asking her for her new number.

Especially since we know that she did have a phone with a new number.

So imo. Jonathan definitely knows more .

So let's say that Jonathan was abusive and she left while trying to fool him.

Should we bombard her efforts because her hubby is putting out a bolo on his runaway wife that was possibly completely set on running away from him?

Jenny did talk about her itinerary to her friend. Remember that link I posted about a month ago that showed screenshots of an exchange Jenny's friend had with Jenny on 4/11/16?
Jenny wrote:
Apr 23rd
Go Cuba
June 1 St go NYC
New York City
Each one is 1 month and 8 days
Mexico is one month and half
I want to see the poorest and the richest
Friend writes:
NYC
Good for you
Jenny then writes:
I will go hitch hiking after one hour
For 4 days
Half Mexico
I am staying in a gay's house
(A couple of photos of room here)
Ok
Hasta pronton
Spanish . See you
(Her friend then writes back in Chinese)

No, but we could determine if she is safe or not, and if she needs help we could have LE send some. JR doesn't need to be included in that dialogue, however.

slowpoke, I remember seeing that about Cuba and NYC, mostly because of the random windows of time she allotted . Thank you.

I knew someone would come through to fill in the holes in my memory if necessary. Thanks slowpoke. My mind is a steel....sieve! :D (I hate to admit that I stole that line from Woody Allen, but it comes in handy).
