"As believers go deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole, more and more time is spent “researching” conspiracy theories and immersing oneself in online discussions with other conspiracy theory believers, with less and less time spent on work, relationships, or other recreational pursuits. As this happens, believers increasingly turn their back on previous friends and family who don’t agree with their beliefs and don’t “inhabit” their new world..."
  • Type/stage 5: In the final stage, authoritative and mainstream accounts are rejected to such an extent as to embrace belief in not only improbable, but frankly supernatural explanations for events (e.g. aliens, lizard people, etc.). At this stage, conspiracy theories and delusions may begin to overlap with self-referential aspects. BBM

Then I think about Chris Watts, then I think about Scott Peterson. I know these horrific deeds are committed.
Why? Is my question.
So horrific, @KALI. I'm asking the same...WHY? I don't see what he would've gained. He seems to have lacked a plan that would benefit him. I wonder if we'll learn something more to explain it.

MOO, the two examples you gave are different types of cases. Both those men killed their children and wives to get them out of the way because they had selfish motives. They both happened to have girlfriends on the side, too. Neither were following conspiracy theories. However, I do think there was some kind of dissatisfaction or boredom with all their lives that links them all.

Just my own opinion at this time and subject to change with further information.

California man charged with killing his children claimed he was ‘enlightened by QAnon’, FBI says

This QAnon article has a kidnapping link that cites the QAnon origin at 2017.

They generally suggest parents kidnap their children to protect them. In Coleman's case, he kidnapped his children to kill them.

Perhaps he's confused about his enlightenment? I think he's seriously impaired and probably not welcome by the true QAnon.

I think I need to stop trying to make sense of the senseless. MOO

The true QAnon is a nut. And/or evil.

Believing in conspiracies does not change the fact you know right from wrong! I don’t doubt that people get so deep into some beliefs that their thoughts become skewed, but I don’t believe for one second that all your morals fly out the window. These people rarely kill themselves, why is that? Moo

A nut who thinks you're a lizard.
"Coleman’s statement about “serpent DNA” may be a reference to the “lizard people” conspiracy theory, popularized by the prominent British conspiracist David Icke, which falsely asserts that many powerful people are actually reptilian aliens that look like humans."

Well, this man's morals did. It's like he forgot everything he knew and replaced it with soulless garbage. JMO tho'.

"Anthony Quinn Warner, the Nashville suicide bomber who blew up himself and a recreational vehicle on Christmas Day 2020, reportedly also followed the lizard people conspiracy theory."

MOO, you might someday be faced with having to deal with a loved one or friend that is slipping down the rabbit hole. *Ridiculing the group does not work. It's almost impossible to get through to them without them disengaging further.

4 Keys to Help Someone Climb Out of the QAnon Rabbit Hole | Psychology Today 3rd part of series

Key ways to get your loved one to view conspiracies rationally:
  • Gauge willingness to quit by employing techniques of motivational interviewing
  • Maintain connection without judging, ridiculing, or challenging beliefs
  • Provide accounts of those who’ve left conspiracy thinking behind
  • Get support for yourself and read accounts of those who have exited cults

Since they were murdered in Mexico, shouldn’t they be doing the prosecuting?

I thought they agreed to extradite and he was charged federally with the killing of an American National. I will check

There’s a really interesting and baffling documentary about flat earthers on Netflix. I loved it. But it was troubling because it shows how futile it is to try to make these people accept reality. Impossible.

Anyhow, a bunch of them believe in lizard people.

Yes. He has been extradited and has been charged federally. However, California law would not apply. Federal law would! So I will check and see what the policies are regarding the insanity defense federally.

But, he’s from CA so he would be more familiar with CA law. Not federal.

And the car seat looked like an infant sized car seat, not a toddler size. Didn’t someone say that he placed the baby inside of a box in the vehicle?

Yes, it's in the complaint. He told the FBI this.

I wonder if he met with anyone while he was in Mexico. Since he can speak Spanish so well, I wonder if he had a GF in Mexico?

I would think if he did then he'd stay down there with her, or go deeper into Mexico. MOO, there doesn't seem to be a logical reason or plan where he'd benefit by killing his children. Oh, only that he could feel like a savior that saved the world from monsters. I think it is what it is-- he got too caught up in the conspiracy theories. JMO

From my notes -

Coleman could face Mexican charges of aggravated murder where he can face between 60-120 years in prison. A Joint investigation is underway by the FBI in Los Angeles & San Diego, the U.S> Customs & Border Protection & the Santa Barbara Police Dept. & the Secretaría de Seguridad Pública Municipal de Rosarito.

and
be tried in U.S. District Court-Central Dist. of Calif. (Western Div.-L.A.)

Yes, it's in the complaint. He told the FBI this.
So he lied. He had an infant car seat with him in the photo. His three year old toddler would not have fit inside of it.

But why? He’d suffer much more in a Mexican prison.

I am having a hard time believing that nobody who knew him, including his wife, knew how messed up in the head he was.
Then I think about Chris Watts, then I think about Scott Peterson.
I know these horrific deeds are committed.
Why? Is my question.
I think all three women knew…but just didn’t want to believe it. IMO

Narcissism. IMO

I know it's hard to believe that he did this, and for the reasons he gave, but I don't think there was another reason or motive. MOO, I keep posting about these groups because they're out there and you need to know more about them. He's not the only one. This article covers others and their sick reasoning connected to believing falsehoods.

How brainwashed QAnon parents like Matthew Coleman have kidnapped & killed their own kids based on warped conspiracies (the-sun.com)

'ENLIGHTENED BY QANON'
Coleman reportedly told investigators about the "signs" that led to him taking his children's' lives. He also said he "was enlightened by QAnon and Illuminati conspiracy" prior to committing the horrific act, investigators said.

According to the affidavit, Coleman explained that he was "receiving visions and signs revealing that his wife, A.C., possessed serpent DNA and had passed it on to his children."

While he allegedly admitted that he knew killing his children was wrong, he saw it as "the only course of action that would save the world."

I have to disagree that these women knew their lives -- especially the lives of their children could be in danger. Shanann would have left her babies in NC if she had even an inkling that Chris would harm them. Not even her parents could feel rage towards Chris. They went from shock to utter despair and grief. They loved him too. MOO
