Mexico Mexico - Tahnee Shanks, 32, Australian, missing from Merida, Yucatán, 30 April 2022

Addy had no shoes on when she was dumped outside the church, but she smelled like 'baby soap', as if she had just been bathed.
She was found at 8pm

all this just screams concerning

was she bathed because her clothes and shoes had evidence on them? ( blood?)

leaving her with no shoes on the street is just weird

More (paraphrased) ......

Tahnee's brother says that the last time anyone saw Tahnee is when she was spotted not far from the church (it doesn't say when).

Tahnee was with 3 men and 2 other women - all of them Mexican except one white girl with red hair (it doesn't say if one of the men was Jorge).

Whoever saw Tahnee told the police that Tahnee was 'severely drugged to the eyeballs and couldn’t keep her eyes open'.

Tahnee's brother says the only reason Addy would not be with Tahnee is that something has gone wrong, or Tahnee is deceased.

Tahnee seems to have two brothers who are very involved in and vocal about this matter, Dan and Ben.
As we already know, Ben and their mother are now in Mexico with/near Addy.
Dan and his wife last had contact with Tahnee on our Sunday (1st May) lunchtime at 12:40pm. Which would have been Saturday night (30th April) in Mexico at around 9:40pm.

what on earth is going on here
this seems really off, who are these other people, the family doesn't seem to know them and if they were travelling with another couple or family you would have thought Tahnee would have mentioned it to someone

i don't think a Mum would leave her daughter even more so being mothers day on Sunday and she didn't contact anyone

very very grim

How did the church people and/or police figure out who the child was if she was found all by herself and she doesn’t really speak yet? It’s not like they were local. I just read a bunch of Mexican news reports and they all basically say the same as the Australian news reports which have been posted here. The authorities said yesterday that they are working on the premise that both parents are still alive and have turned over the child to her Australian relatives.

I think what happened is that the man who found Addy, Wilbert Canto, had taken a bunch of pics of Addy when they found her. There are photos in the Courier Mail article of Addy when she was found. It is nighttime and in one pic she is pointing her little flashlight into her own mouth. In another Mr Canto is holding her. There are several of her on her own.

Mr Canto (as per the Courier Mail article) posted the pics on his FB page, to try to find out who Addy is.
The article gives Mr Canto's FB profile name. The pics went viral, according to the article. Someone who knew Addy saw those pics.

Then ....

Two nights ago, her brother Daniel Shanks woke to news of a Facebook post circulating in Mexico of his niece found wandering alone near a church.

"We contacted them [the person who posted] straight away to let them know who she is," he said.

that doesn't seem right, why wouldn't they both just come forward and explain then, rather than leave their child at a church?
Tahnee had also been in the process of getting her child all the documents and approval so she could head home to Australia with her
her family basically went on a mercy dash to Mexico to get the child, you'd think if she wanted to hand the child over she could have done so once back in Australia or organised for someone to take her home, not just dump her at a random church that isn't even in the same town where she lives, it was just lucky that someone contacted the family and said hey is this your sisters kid?

The below article has been RSBM and BBM.

Authorities have revealed the mysterious timeline of a missing Aussie mum’s movements in Mexico before her daughter was found abandoned.

Mexican authorities have revealed 32-year-old Ms Shanks, who was living in Merida, Mexico, had booked a hotel in Cancun with her partner Jorge Aguirre Estudillo.

But they were already on their way back home when they mysteriously returned to the famous beach town where their daughter, Adelynn, was found last Monday.

“We are analysing videos and the chronology of events. They were visiting Cancun for one day, made an hotel reservation, then they went back to Merida, but on the road decided to come back to Cancun, and that is when the girl’s event takes place,” ÓMOR, general attorney of Quintana Roo, told media, according to a translation.

He said Mr Estudillo had been deported to Mexico from the United States after attacking a police officer there and a previous girlfriend had made domestic violence complaints against him.

However, while he would be a line of investigation, ÓMOR said Mr Estudillo was being treated as a victim.

At this time, both are victims, they are missing persons, later maybe we can determine if he is responsible for something, so far he is a victim,” he said.

Witnesses have claimed Mr Estudillo left Adelynn at the church.

On the same day Adelynn was found, a car the pair was travelling in was found burnt out about 40 minutes south of Cancun.

I totally agree with your assessment. Was quite shocked to read that but I guess they’re being cautious right now with their wording. I’m sure they know more than they have said so far. This is tragic. I don’t think it will have a good outcome. Thank goodness the child is safe though.

Mexico has become a hot spot of murder. There is no beach there lovely enough to lure me.

Last night, at 9:41pm (about 14 hours ago), it was reported that Tahnee's mum, brother, and Addy had boarded a plane to Australia.

Tahnee's mum says that Addy has really taken to Ben, and she is her usual, happy self. Ben says "she's gonna be well looked after".

Tahnee's mum says that it breaks her heart to leave Mexico without Tahnee, but they just want to get Addy home.
They feel that the police are doing a professional job and they are being kept well informed.

Yes. And if I was them I would be wanting to get Addy away from the possibility that Jorge may appear (or be found) and have some story that might allow him to take Addy back. I think that might be harder to do, if Addy is in Qld.

BTW The lovely family who called the police and watched over Addy also took items to the safe house for her, things that Addy might need. Though they were not allowed to see her, as they are not her family. (stated in the Courier Mail article)

I don’t necessarily think so. I work directly in this field (assisting distressed citizens overseas in exactly these sorts of cases). People make choices for so many reasons. I wonder if the possibility of a custody claim by her paternal grandparents is playing on their mind.

In any event the Embassy in Mexico (via their HQ in Canberra) and the Australian Federal Police (who will be working with their Mexican equals) will be in regular contact and feeding back updates in English. If T is found alive she can be medically evacuated very quickly. Sadly if the worst happens, remains can take quite some time to be returned home, particularly if there is a police investigation.

This is so sad for Addy. I wonder if Addy had even met the family before? Such a confusing time for her.

I don't know how recently anyone in the family would have seen Addy (except maybe on FT, perhaps), but Tahnee's mum flew to Mexico for Addy's birth. It didn't say how long she stayed.

It was in one of the articles that have been posted.

I go to Mexico frequently to vacation. Never once have run in to any trouble. In fact, every Mexican I’ve met there has been lovely.

Travelling can be such a varied experience for people. I have travelled extensively and have managed to keep out of trouble, but I have been close to a number of situations where things could have turned ugly if I hadn't had my wits about me. I have met many people on my travels who have had bad experiences. Being a guy, a cop, a photographer, I did like to push experiencing situations that were a little less attractive to the average tourist, and did feel a little uneasy in a couple of places. One being Mexico, another was Athens, even some places in Asia, but sadly I felt most uneasy in the USA.
