Mexico Mexico - Tahnee Shanks, 32, Australian, missing from Merida, Yucatán, 30 April 2022

The official believes that Addy was dumped near the church in an effort to safeguard her.

if that ends up being the last desperate act of a mother guarding her child's life, I mean it worked in the end Addy is alive and back in Australia where she is safe

as for her mother and the partner, it doesn't seem good the more and more information that comes out

"The car was later found burnt out in the town of Puerto Morelos with the number plates removed and serial numbers ground off."

this is the bit that troubles me, its no wonder police think its cartel-related, i mean this is done to delay identification and most people wouldn't bother to go to such effort they would just torch the car

It certainly doesn’t sound like domestic violence to me. Why would he torch his truck and how would he escape afterwards if he did? They haven’t said what his occupation was to be able to afford Cancun vacations and a newer truck such as the one they were driving. Unfortunately, it sounds like it could be cartel related in which case I don’t think either of them are alive.

i think they just said they are using that DV as a secondary line of investigation but for now they are both considered victims until something shows the police a reason to think otherwise

I definitely think Jorge and Tahnee were targeted - moreso Jorge and Tahnee happened to be there.
If this is not the case, then Jorge hurt Tahnee once he found out she was returning to Australia for good and now he's on the run.
I feel moreso that it is the first option especially given as Tahnee was last seen drugged, which is absolutely terrifying to read.

The 60 Minutes just came through my YT stream. I’m so glad to see this beautiful child Addy so happily playing, and safe and loved.

I am sharing a MSM link because somehow I missed the “seen drugged” information from early on in the investigation! So horrifying.

TS's brother, BS, told the Courier Mail witnesses at the church say they saw a man who looked like AA walking away from the scene.

He said witnesses also claim to have seen TS "not far" from the church "severely drugged" with five other people.

It is horrifying. Because if Jorge is guilty of stealing money from the cartel (perhaps not handing over money from his fake holiday packages) then what did they want Tahnee for? As a means to make their money back?

The only bright spot is that whoever did this allowed them to dump Addy near a church and that she is now safe.

There is a new Courier Mail article here that adds a little to the article ping posted above.

It says that the authorities have been using the state's 2,000 surveillance cameras, as well as mobile phone data and license recognition technology in piecing together their movements on 2nd May.

It also says that Mr de Oca Rosales (Quintana Roo general attorney) said that "apparently and according to what we have seen" Jorge could be a cartel member.

They mention another text by Tahnee to her friend that says “He made up some story that he was being threatened and fearing for his life and he was all drunk and shot and made out he was on the run because he apparently almost killed a guy and blah blah blah. It’s all bullshot (sic).”

After that text, Tahnee told her friend that Jorge went into hiding in Puerto Morelos - which is where their burned out car was found 45 mins after Addy was dumped at the church.

Tahnee's family want to know what happened to the outfit Addy was wearing when she was found, if it has been tested for evidence.

its very murky but either way ( theory) it leads back to Jorge which is horrible
he put his ex-partner and his child at considerable risk knowing they were coming for a holiday

Tahnee's family are hiring a private detective. They have been told by the Mexican authorities to stop contacting them, so they have to go through the Australian Embassy now with their inquiries.
However, they usually receive no reply from the Mexican authorities. They are very frustrated.

The family are trying to get a copy of the police file sent to the PI of their choice, before the PI flies to Cancun and Merida.
They have been advised that they may need to get a lawyer to get the police file released to the PI.
They are concerned that any missed CCTV may be overwritten before they can get to it.

There is a pic in this article of 8 different Mexican officials fronting a press conference (presumably about Tahnee) on Monday 6th May.
Mr de Oca Rosales says there are two judicial complaints for domestic violence against Jorge already in their system. It is understood that the complaints may be from two different women.

A Whitsunday mother due back in Australia this month has now been missing for eight weeks. Hope she will be found alive has diminished but the prosecutor in charge says he has made a key development in the case.

Quintana Roo general attorney Óscar Montes de Oca Rosales has told media in Mexico that there have been developments in the case.

He said he had been in touch with the Shanks family through the Australian consul but he would not share anymore while there was an active investigation.

Mr Montes de Oca Rosales said the advancements in the case could be shared once the investigation had concluded.

The brother of Tahnee Shanks, an Australia mother who vanished in Mexico, believes her two-year-old daughter witnessed what happened the night her parents went missing.
Speaking to Today, from Moranbah in Queensland, Tahnee's brother Daniel Shanks said the family are focused on supporting Adelynn as it's likely she holds clues to Tahnee's whereabouts.

"We believe she has been witness to it all," he said.

Tahnee Shanks has been missing for days after her daughter was abandoned outside a church in Cancun. (60 Minutes)

"Trying to get that information out of a 2.5-year-old that speaks half English, half Spanish, and a lot of gibberish is very hard at this stage.

"We have taken her to specialists to try and get information out of her other ways through drawing and other techniques."

It's been nearly two months after Adelynn was found alone and barefoot outside a church in Cancun, Mexico

The family seem to have more confidence in the police, now that they know what is in the police file.

But after getting a brief on the 1200 pages in the police file, Mr Shanks said he was now confident the Mexican police were on the case.
“After our private investigator perused the files, they confirmed the Mexican authorities have done a very thorough and good job on the investigation to date,” he said.
“We are now hoping to engage with police to liaise with our private investigator.”

They showed the 60 Minute Interview, in NZ tonight.
Sad that Tahnee never made it back to Australia.

Tahnee has been added to the Aussie Missing Persons Register.

A statistic that is included in her write up is .....

"In the past two years, the total number of registered disappearances in Mexico has risen from 73,000 to more than 100,000, according to the national registry of missing people kept by Mexico's Attorney General's Office.

Amnesty International's latest statistics show that in 2021, authorities registered 7,698 cases of missing people, of whom 31 per cent were women.

It is also stated that "impunity largely prevailed on this issue, with just 35 convictions for the crime of enforced disappearance"."

I thought I would have a look for any news of Tahnee. Nothing really new, but I see in this old Belize (Central America) article that Tahnee's partner may have fled to Belize back in May.

"According to a source close to Shanks’ family, Astudillo frequently visited Belize; thus, police suspect he may have crossed into the country.
No new information has been released, and there is no confirmation that the Belize Police Department has been notified of Astudillo’s potential presence in the country."

***********

I also noticed in this Mexican article about 6 foreigners who have been killed (or presumed killed) in Mexico this year, Tahnee ranks at #4. (Google translate works well for the article)
At the bottom of the segment about Tahnee there is a link to a post from the admin of the Bring Tahnee Home FB page, from 2 weeks ago They are frustrated.

"Our private investigator keeps telling us that they are getting closer to being able to question person's of interest & search locations but they have been saying this for weeks now & still nothing has been done. The system is broken & the process is [bs]."

Trawling for news about Tahnee again. I came across this old (July 8th) Mexican article.

It speaks of the vehicle in which Tahnee was "lifted" (google translation for kidnapped?)
The vehicle now belongs to an unknown someone who purchased it from a reporter.
It sounds as if this is a different vehicle than the one that was discovered burned, in May, which apparently was Tahnee and her partners own vehicle.

Nezahualcóyotl Cordero García is the reporter who inexplicably had in his possession the vehicle used for the forced disappearance of this couple. It is a white Ford Lobo from the year 2017, which the State Attorney General's Office had been tracking and which they managed to locate in a routine review.
The person who had bought the vehicle showed all the documentation that proved his transaction with this reporter, including a receipt handwritten by Nezahalcóytl Cordero .......
