Could it have been a serial killer? Since the mother recently it was random. Were there any other strange murders nearby during that time period?

IMO it was random. I have an opinion about who the killer is, but he's long deceased and suspected in the murder of his former partner and her boyfriend in Waterford. Again, JMO
