Right. Car jackers tend to take cars for a couple of reasons:

1. To get to a location because they don't have a car;
2. To steal a car to strip for parts for money

To hijack a car, with a child in it, then dump it, is rare.

However, giving the jacker the benefit of the doubt. If he stole the car, looked in the rear view mirror, saw the child, then chances are he'd want to dump the car STAT.

Uhhh...my problem is why did he take the child with him? A 2 year old could hardly give LE a complete descriptions, and would be a horrible witness.

And wouldn't it make more sense for the jacker to leave the child there? This way he's not charged with further crimes (other than the kidnapping - but could prolly get off on a lesser charge by saying he didn't know the child was there).

I'm willing to eat crow, but I think I'm going to find the father did something with the 2 year old.

This article also says the father was alone with the girl in the car:

The girl’s uncle, Olando Jones, said Lane was on his way to the girl’s mother’s house to pick up clothing for the girl who was to stay with Lane for a week.

I'll continue to pray that little Bianca is recovered quickly.

You will not be eating crow by yourself, I'll join you. A 2006 Grand Marquis is only worth about $9,000 and isn't very popular for carjacking. Loves gas about as much as I love chocolate. Can't see any reason that a carjacker who would keep a child would then dump the car just a mile from the carjacking location.:waitasec: It just doesn't make sense to me. I don't think this is going to end very well and I hope that I'm wrong.

You are wrong in one little part. He didn't pull over. He was leaving his home at the time.

Now it makes less sense to me. If he was leaving his home, wouldn't the chances of the jackers knowing there was a child in the car be even greater?

If there was a carjacking, there's nothing saying they didn't dump the car and the kid. It is Detroit, after all. Someone sees them dump the car, and run off like their butt is on fire, gets curious, goes to check the car out, maybe see if they left the radio or some other good parts in it, and finds Bianca. It would be one of those out of left field scenarios, and to the best of my knowledge has never happened before, but...it is Detroit.

Or....they dump the car and Bianca gets out and tries to walk home.

I know to outsiders it seems as though a person wouldn't stop in Detroit if flagged over for a flat tire or car lights warning. But when you're a resident..in your own neighborhood/community, you don't always have that exact same perception, especially in daylight hours. JMO

I forget everyday how supposedly dangerous my neighborhood is, because it's easy to forget when you live there.

Timeline from here: http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/...girl/-/1719418/4863614/-/cspr2nz/-/index.html

Timeline:

•7:30 a.m. Bianca leaves a home on Mitchell Street with her father

•9:55: a.m.: Lane reports he was carjacked on Beaubien, between Euclid and Philadelphia

•10:15 a.m.: Police find Lane’s vehicle just blocks away in an alley off Brush between Philadelphia and Euclid

This does not clarify things for me. How far is Mitchell from Beaubien? Certainly not almost 2 and a half hours??

Edited to add: per Google maps, it is 7.5 miles from Mitchell St to Beaubien.

Prayers for you, sweet Bianca.........

Jones’ father tells WDIV he pulled over to help a vehicle with a broken taillight, when the man pulled out a gun and drove off with his vehicle. The little girl was inside.

Well, this is an entirely different story than the first one. How the heck do you help someone with a broken taillight. In the first story, the carjackers told him that he had a broken taillight and then pulled a gun and took the car.

If he wasn't carjacked, it should be easy enough to find out. If he dumped the car (where it was found), and walks to where he reported the crime - then someone (or cameras) should be able to say if they saw him walking in the area. If he walked 7.5 miles I'd be hard pressed to find someone who didn't see him (that's a looonnnggg walk).

I'm sure we'll find out soon enough.

Per Chief...did canine search of vehicle, did not get a "hit" that would produce Bianca

What? Does that mean they don't think she was in the car? Or that they couldn't follow a trail from the vehicle?

If he is lucky, he took her to breakfast at a place with cameras that worked. But 2 and a half hours?

No, it is just a mile from where he was jacked and where the car was found, i think.

I agree, the stories are all over the map, but I don't know who to blame yet. The media seem to be the ones that screwed up the suspect descriptions, giving at least four different ones, so I don't know that the story changes we are hearing now are because the media got correct info after printing whatever they had earlier, or whether they are getting different info because the father changed his story.

I thought that sounded oddly worded myself..but that was a direct quote.

Not surprisingly (as we have seen so many times before) she has gone missing the day she was to be returned to another relative (her mother).

I'd like to know when she was last seen by an independent source, b/c I'm willing to bet she was never in her fathers car this morning.

I don't get this. I thought he was carjacked when he was leaving the home that morning. But that was Mitchell street and he was jacked 2 hpurs later on Beaubain? So what's up with that?

Local news crawlers are saying an Amber Alert was issued. (not sure if that was posted). Crawlers says "police believe Bianca was abducted. Suspects are the two men previously described in this thread and supect car as previously described as well.

  • #116
I don't get that either, especially since this is the first time I have seen Mitchell mentioned. Before this, it was reported the car was taken from Brush and Custer, and dumped off of Beaubien, and then they come up with Mitchell from somewhere...

According the police Chief, as of his live interview at 4pm, they have had no independent sightings come forward. He was pleading for just that.

I have such a jaded mind...

Well, they HAVE TO say that, even if they have their doubts. They have to follow that story just in case it is true. But I bet they have their own questions as we do.

Right. I think it was poignant when the Chief said the father was in questioning, in part, because they needed to corroborate his story. The problem is, as usual, if no one saw Bianca or an incident, how do you prove a negative? ::sigh::

The crawlers are continuing though. People will be heading home from work soon, which means more people keeping their eyes open. However, here in the area..the sun is starting to set now :(
