perhaps it is the cynic in me, but I am having a hard time swallowing dad's story. I hope I am all kinds of wrong. Big sissy's tearful plea about broke my heart. I hope they find this little one. Back to lurk mode. I can't invest any more of me into yet another missing child whose parent seems questionable in their actions. I just don't have it in my right now.

Prayers for those who love and miss this little cutie.

I couldn't agree more. I'm going to put this very, very delicately. Living in Flint, we get a lot of the "overflow" from Detroit. People that have been in so much trouble in Detroit that the police know them by sight tend to come here to get away from that stigma, whether it's deserved or not. People that are trying to leave gangs and get their lives turned around, end up coming here. Flint probably has the atmosphere that is closest to that of Detroit, out of all the MI cities, with the exception of Detroit itself.
In some areas, in both cities, there are entire blocks of residential areas where there is just nothing left. The houses that were there were stripped of all valuables, right down to the pipes and the wiring in the walls, and then normally burned on purpose, demoed by the city, or accidentally set afire by someone that was homeless or on drugs. In both cities, the things that other people take for granted are things that residents can't imagine doing, like letting your car warm up in the driveway with the engine running, or letting their kids walk a block to the store by themselves.
It is literally a whole different world. Poor Detroiters, same as poor Flintstones, learn not to do the things that most people consider normal. You don't make eye contact with anyone you don't live with, as that's a challenge. You know that you put your life on the line every time you walk out the door, but here,it's just as easy to get shot in your living room, either by accident or because you asked your neighbor to keep their dog out of your yard. We accept it as normal that our kindergarten students are familiar with school lockdowns and know how to cover their heads and stay on the floor when they hear gunshots. This is not normal life, so a lot of the things that people think they understand, do not apply to either city, especially Detroit. The idea that a carjacking would happen in a residential neighborhood at 10 a.m. might make some people laugh at the absurdity of such an idea, but in Detroit, it's completely believable. That may be why LE has not come out and said that they don't believe the father, because anywhere else on the planet, this would be a fluke occurrence, if it were true. Not so much in this case. The absolutely terrifying thing about this case is that the story as it was reported is possible. Not the most plausible thing I have ever heard, simply because of where the car was found and how fast it was located, but still extremely possible.

I completely agree that this is indeed possible. I don't live in Detroit, but I do have relatives there, and have visited several times. It is like a whole other world, very scary (at least to me). (off topic, but I agree that Flint has the same atmosphere. I grew up in Saginaw, was in Flint quite often visiting relatives, and have been there lately. Flint scares me too. I don't want to get out of my car)

--from above article:

"Thirty minutes later, his gray Grand Marquis was found just six blocks away, in an alley with the door open and the engine running, but no child".

---from what's been posted about the crime rate in detroit, i'm shocked the car wasn't stolen in that 1/2 hour!

Maybe that was his plan. Then report the car stolen and let some other guy explain what happened to the child.

Makes me wonder, how many different people's fingerprints were found in the car?

Anything on the evening news?

Anything on the evening news?

I wasn't able to watch. There was an article that came out shortly after 6, that probably was a recap of what was on the news. I didn't link it because there was nothing new in it.

Sadly, I know exactly what you mean tlcox. I check on the missing children almost daily but I don't have the heart to avidly follow. There are just too many of them. There seems to be at least a couple of new missing children a day. The ending is almost always very tragic and heartbreaking. This year seems worse than the years before. This dad's story just like so many parent's stories lately, seems contrived. Maybe it is just me.

I know what you mean. Seems like it is "open season" on children these days. I check in here on WS often, usually at least once daily, and am following several cases here. But I have to make myself take a break from it sometimes, or else I feel a sense of such frustration and despair it colors my whole day.

It would be helpful, I think, if at least ONE of these parent's were arrested and convicted. CA really set a precedent, didn't she? It is just so sad.

DH and I were out this evening and didn't see the evening news. On our way home, news on WWJ radio focused on a plane crash in northern lower Michigan that claimed the lives of two men. Here's the most recent update on Bianca Jones from WDIV, Channel 4:

What strikes me as really interesting is that they specifically won't comment on the "quantity or quality" of "evidence or information...gathered to date." Maybe this is because of my inexperience with such cases, so please correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like in the other cases I've followed the LE spokespersons usually say things like, "We continue to receive tips and we are following up on leads." maybe it's immaterial. It just seemed like an interesting choice of words.

:prayer:
:heartbeat: this poor family. Banika must be so strong, to be holding it together like she is. She looks so young, too.

I don't think that I could be that composed!

Please let Bianca be safe! :prayer:

Has there been any mention of mom's feeling toward the other baby's mom? I'm not sure If my baby was "just getting to know her daddy" that (unless I felt ok with the current live-in) I'd let her stay for so long?

Also, why was it necessary for little Bianca to go with Dad that early in the morning to pick up more clothes??

Too many perfect coincidences for me to digest it all as the truth as of yet.

:sigh:

I thought that was really interesting, too and it seemed encouraging in an odd sort of way.

The chief goes on to explain:
"However, in the interest of allaying some of the fears of the public regarding the apparent randomness of Bianca's disappearance, the authenticity and credibility of the original version of events is under intense scrutiny by our investigative team. We still need the public to relay any tips that could help in establishing the whereabouts of Bianca Jones to either 1-800-SPEAK-UP or to 313-596-2260, Bianca's safe return is priority one."

He just wants to assure people that it was not a random disappearance or that there are kidnappers running around. More like saying it's an inside job.

True...

I was also wondering if it is unusual that we haven't heard about more sightings. I might be misremembering, but it seems like in other cases there are more people coming out to say that they saw the child (mistaken or not).

I hear ya.

As much as I love this site, I would prefer to see the day that Websleuths has nothing to discuss.

It doesn't look good for little Bianca. :(

You're right - it seems to me I read an article in relation to this case that said how a lot of times, people in the inner-city neighborhoods don't call the police when they see or hear of trouble. I hope that a reward and anonymity will be an incentive. Police Chief Godbee said this:

"If you've seen her picture, seen that smile, if that does not move your heart to do the right thing -- as my grandmother would say, there's no 'do right' in you,"
