MI - Boy Sexually Assaulted by Two Men, Detroit

  • #21
Couldn't it be possible that this young man failed and that's why he's still in elementary school. I can't believe in a place like Detroit that they don't have better security for their schools. When my kids were in elementary school there was a list of people that could pick them up and when you did you had to show a driver's license. I know this young man let these POSs in but my children's schools also had locked doors. I guess this school's doors could have been locked on the outside.

It's such a tragedy and so sad for this young man. I too hope the POSs get a little street justice before they're brought in.

You can't have them locked from the outside in case of fire or a school shooter or another emergency. The kids need to be able to get outside from every door available.

ITA. Locking the doors from outside creates a fire hazard.

I wonder if it was updated. . .I'm not seeing the skepticism.

If they weren't really skeptical, the headline wouldn't read "claim", but rather, "report". When you say someone claims something, you don't believe them. (I was actually taught this when I worked at a job where I had to field complaints and formally write them down. We couldn't use "claim", but rather "states", "reports", "says", "describes", etc., or other non-prejorative words).

Additionally, the paragraph that "while police seem to believe his story", it should have said "police investigation is ongoing", and left out that the police "seem" to believe his story.

If this boy is telling the truth, that article would be very hurtful.

Detroit cops, school raise questions about student's story in alleged sex assault
By George Hunter and Tony Briscoe
The Detroit News

Detroit — Police on Thursday conducted a second interview with a 13-year-old boy who claimed to have been pulled out of school and raped Wednesday because they have questions about his story, a police source familiar with the investigation told The Detroit News.

"Something doesn't seem right," said the source, who spoke to The News on condition of anonymity. "We have doubts, so we're interviewing him again."

The source said the boy's story initially seemed to be credible, but upon further investigation, questions arose.

This is going to sound bad, but when I read that the boy was in trouble waiting to be picked up and then went to the bathroom, my first thought was maybe this is something he made up to get out of being in trouble.

I was going to say I hope that isn't the case, but considering the alternative, I actually hope it is.

If this story is true, I hope they catch these guys quickly! It's so frighteningly brazen!

You might be right!

He had only been in the school for a couple days. He had come in having had misbehavior problems in another school, and was misbehaving at this school. The principal was considering sending him to yet a third school. He's a 13-year-old student in the fifth grade; he's had some behavioral issues.

Yeah, but idk. The eyewitness says he was bleeding, had his hands bound behind his back with electrical tape and was pantless. I don't think that's something that a 13yr old could do by himself. :( But there still seems to be something a little fishy to me. :waitasec:

Police say boy in alleged sex assault may have known two suspects
By George Hunter and Tony Briscoe
The Detroit News

Detroit — Police said Thursday evening that they are pursuing a person of interest in the alleged rape of a 13-year-old boy who said he was pulled out of school by two men, and that he may have known both of them.

"The preliminary investigation conducted by the Detroit Police Department's Sex Crimes Unit revealed that this does not appear to be a random act, and the victim may have known the two male suspects," police said in a statement.

"The investigators handling this case have identified a person of interest and are actively searching for that person."

Well, it sounds like they are getting closer and closer to the truth here, whatever the truth may be.

A little off-topic, but I don't understand a school district that will leave a 13 year old in a 5th grade class. In reading through articles, it's not unusual for that district to leave kids up to 15 years old in 5th grade. At 13, still in 5th grade, the boy is either not intellectually capable of doing the work or he is too defiant to do it. Either way, this certainly creates a difficult environment for the students who are in 5th grade and capable of succeeding. It puts the on-track kids in the class at great disadvantage - having to cope with children who are either incapable of learning the material, or who are so disruptive they aren't succeeding.

Detroit just seems like a hopeless place. :(

I was in Detroit once a few years ago. It felt like a third world country war zone. There are so many empty abandoned houses. It's really depressing.

As to the older kids still being in 5th grade. If these kids were just not passing, they would be put in special ed classes IMHO. Around here the only way that can happen is if the kids are missing too much school. If they don't meet the required amount of days in class, they have to repeat the grade. I suspect that is what is going on here. There is a lot of gang activity in Detroit. I suspect these young kids are out running the streets involved in being little G's. It's very common for younger kids that age to be used in drug delivery.

Now that we know this boy supposedly knows these perps and may have actually left with them willingly. . .I'm thinking it was something gang or drug related. Maybe this boy messed up somehow and this was his punishment. Sickening. :(

Ding Ding Ding Ding - hambirg

the troubled young man, obviously older than the other student/peers in class, the new school, coupled with threat of possible third move, knowing the perps.

First thought - gang

I wonder if he is in with a bad group of individuals and trying to now move away from that situation - possible retribution for non cooperation?

One of the local news stations reported last night that the attack might have been in retaliation against the victim's older brother.

I won't judge this 13-year-old too harshly because it's obvious that he has a lot of problems. The boy has been in different schools that end up expelling him due to disciplinary issues. There is probably little support for education in his home, and I doubt that this young man will graduate from high school. :moo:

ETA: I think this is the report/video from last night's 10:00 news on local Fox. I rarely watch the channel but was too tired to stay up for the 11:00 news on WDIV.

Agreed BettyDavisEyes, no judgment here either. In some neighborhoods in larger cities, a youth is hard pressed to get to adulthood WITHOUT being personally affected by gangs, drugs, and violence.

Regardless of the motivation or whether this young man knew or associated with his attackers, he is the victim and has my prayers.

As you say, he sounds as if he has some troubles in his young life and I hope he is able to get things on track.

BBM

That makes perfect sense to me, and explains why I thought things sounded fishy. I'm sure this young boy was afraid to give the truthful details.

Regardless, what a horrible thing. I hope this kid gets the help he needs. . .and these sickos get caught. They're terrorists really. Sick!

Truly heartbreaking. In a city where it's hard enough to get by, probably with a family that cares little about education, something mentally and emotionally tragic has to happen. I hope he does not continue on the path so many other young kids do in detroit. Drop out of school, enter a gang for family and protection, violence, drugs, etc. a neverending cycle. I hope these monsters are caught

Another twist...doctor says no rape?

A doctor who examined a 13-year-old boy who reported being abducted from a school and raped earlier this week found no evidence of a sexual assault, a police source familiar with the investigation told The News on Friday.

The police source said that the boy's story keeps changing. "He knows who did it," the source said, adding that the incident was likely gang-related and involved a friend of the boy's brother.

There are several ways to sexually assault/sexually abuse someone and not leave any physical evidence.

I don't know what to believe about this poor kid.. but no matter what he needs help :(

I agree-and it's obvious something has happened because of his condition.
