Found Deceased MI - Brendan Santo 18, visitor, Michigan State University campus, East Lansing, 29 Oct 2021

Have they done a complete search in the woods where he may have gone missing? He may not be in the river but somewhere under the leaves in the woods. I'd do an arm in arm (people chain) search through that area a mile in each direction.

In video clips from local news agencies, it appeared that wooded areas were searched by dozens of volunteers. Searchers were given maps of various areas of MSU campus to be searched, so I think something like a grid search of certain areas has been done. Law enforcement has indicated that they have also searched areas other than the Red Cedar River.

Reward grows as search continues at MSU for Brendan Santo (wxyz.com)

...Brewer has been on MSU’s campus the last two weekends organizing volunteer searches. This weekend more than 200 volunteers covered areas just west of campus looking for Brendan's clothes, necklace, phone, keys or anything that might help find him.

“People are crawling around under bushes and they’re looking everywhere and they’re trying so hard," Brewer said. "Our family cannot even express how grateful we are that people feel like this for Brendan.”...

Brendan was last seen walking alone from Yakeley hall to Brody near the Red Cedar River. Police say the river has become a key focus area.

“We have not been able to search the entire river," said Chris Rozman, an Inspector with the Michigan State University Police Department. "The river is vast on campus, we’ve searched areas that are of particular interest.”...

“Our search has kind of continued from the point he was last seen west (downstream),” Rozman said. “I do want to emphasize that’s not the only place we’re looking, we do consider other possibilities at this point.”...

They've had very large, well-organized searches of the immediate area and further out around the campus.
Volunteers search for missing teen Brendan Santo

I am not exactly sure why, but when fall sets in, an unsettling number of young male college students end up in rivers. Have seen that many times over the years here at WS. I pray that is not the case here. Water searches are hit and miss as remains can set on the bottom of the river in a depression for a considerable amount of time. The head of Texas Equusearch is an expert in finding remains in rivers.

Police consider damming the Red Cedar River to help find Brendan.
Police consider damming Red Cedar River in Brendan Santo search
Noting:
  • Debris is causing problems for the dive teams.
  • Ingham County Drain Commissioner Patrick Lindemann said if police were going to dam the river, now would be the time to do it.
  • “They have to be careful that they don’t ruin the banking or erode the banks,” said Lindemann.
  • He said the water would have to go somewhere and there’s not much room on campus to divert the river.
  • “They can divert the water by just using part of the river canal and dam off only part of the river canal,” said Lindemann.
  • This is done fairly often for maintenance and repairs.
  • The entire process should take about a day, but Lindemann said it would be easier if police know exactly where they are looking.
  • “If the body went way downstream, if that’s what they figure out, that it went way downstream, they might have to do two or three different locations,” said Lindemann.
  • State regulators would have to sign off before any damming happens.

Just looked at the date of the article and it was from yesterday at around 4 pm.

As we haven't heard anything yet it could be usual.

The video report on WDIV never showed up on the website, but there was a reporter at the scene with LE personnel with canines walking along the river. Reporter talked about how the water is receding and that this should aid searches that have been hampered by the depth of the river in some places, the swift current, and debris beneath the surface. Hopefully, the receding water should make thorough searches somewhat easier, and if Brendan is in the river, he will be located soon. My thoughts have been with his family on this Thanksgiving Day.

For some reason this makes me so sad, I have been thinking of Brendan and his family so much over Thanksgiving. I keep hoping for a miracle. Whenever I am visiting my daughter on campus I can't help looking at every boy I see hoping it is him, even though I know it is unlikely he would just be walking about.

I know that this harsh reality has to be considered based on the length of time that Brendan has been missing, but it was difficult and sad to read this statement from the Ingham County Drain Commissioner. Brendan's family has been in my prayers daily since I learned about the missing teen from Rochester Hills.

I felt like he spoke too frankly, and I hope Brendan’s family didn’t see the interview. LE spokespeople are good at speaking around things. This guy (not LE) needed some PR training.

After all this time though, I'm guessing the family have already been told this. As a parent I think would insist they tell me everything before any statements were made MSM.

Of course, we know this doesn't always happen, but I don't think that will be the case here.

Praying that Brendan will be located soon.
