I am over any sympathy I had for Jaimee Chamberlain.

It is my personal opinion, that going forward there will be an effort on her part to sweep certain things under the rug.

Yes he was. He has only been in Jaimees care for ONE month. TC said Jaimee took Carnel back from her because they were in a fight and it was Jaimees way to get back at her. Grandma was also in Texas because her mother is dying and was going to get him back in 2 weeks I believe. Carnel only was suffering with AB for a month thank God. TC also thinks JC took him back because the tribal kids get their $3,000 in June so she may have wanted to collect that

I understand that the requirement for membership in the Michigan Saginaw Chippewa Tribe is just 1/4 Saginaw Chippewa blood--correct? So, Jaimee was receiving at least $3,000.00 a month for herself, and $3,000.00 a month for Carnel? Did AB still receive his tribal benefits in spite of having a felony record? It confuses me WHY Jaimee was receiving all of this money, (not to mention probably highly subsidized or free housing and food benefits), and she would not be able to hire a childcare provider for her son, Carnel, if she didn't want her mother taking care of him while she worked or partied? WHY leave your little boy with a felon who already had a recent history of abusing him? I have absolutely no sympathy for Jaimee Chamberlain at this point. I am personally thoroughly disgusted!

Another thing to think about in relation to the $6,000.00+ Jaimee was likely receiving every month is the cost of living in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. The cost of living in Michigan--with the exception of Ann Arbor and a few other more affluent Detroit suburbs--is pretty low on a national scale. For example, what the average person pays for a house on a lot in Mount Pleasant or elsewhere in mid-Michigan would not buy a shoebox size house and property on the west coast. Aside from the above average winter heating costs in Michigan, Jaimee was not struggling from lack of monthly income at all.

I believe that Jaimee was getting $2,500 bi weekly... My best friend and Jaimees cousin is 100% sag chip and he says all of the adults get this. He also told me the children's parents get a certain amount I BELIEVE it's around 3 grand a few times a year. AB got the per cap adult too. They spent it on drugs.. It is insane I am disgusted as well we all are here

My heart breaks for Carnel's grandma!! I have grandchildren the age of Carnel and older. I cannot even imagine the pain she is suffering, especially having raised him.

But, I thought Carnel had been in foster care? I remember reading that Jaimee took him back from a couple that wanted to adopt him? Is this incorrect information? Thanks!

The court records before they were closed, because it was switched to tribal courts, state he was removed at 1 month old. I then read in several post and online articles that he was out of her care for 1 year. The couple he was placed with wanted to adopt him, however JC did what the court requested and Carnell was returned to her care.

I thought she looked preggo in those pics.

Usually when a crime occurs on the rez, the Tribal Prosecutor will determine if it qualifies as a Major Crimes Act status, then it is given to Federal, as is the case here. From what I have read, there are charges now, but not murder, this keeps him in a jail and will become part of 'lesser included charges' with a primary charge of murder.

if there is either smoke, dirt in, or Carnel's lungs are seared, then there will be much more severe murder charges as well as more 'lesser included charges'.

The Feds have a 3 strike law:

BUT: The statute does not apply to persons subject to the criminal jurisdiction of an Indian tribal government for offenses committed in Indian country where federal jurisdiction is predicated solely on Indian country, unless the governing body of the tribe has elected that the provision have effect over land and persons subject to the criminal jurisdiction of the tribe.

I am bringing forward the Nancy Grace transcript link posted by katydid23 for discussion and comparison with the criminal complaint.

NG transcript describes the harsh spankings of Carnel which resulted in his buttocks bruises ... the harsh spankings are not in the criminal complaint. at Jaimee and AB had talked on the phone while she was at work and he told her the child was missing ... that was another change from her arriving home and finding out then.

GRACE: What, if anything, did you do about that?

CHAMBERLAIN: Well, I didn`t think of -- I really -- at first, I didn`t think of anything of it, you know, until, like, you know, after all this happened. But I just thought, you know, maybe he spanked him hard to where, like, you know, Carnel (INAUDIBLE) learn it.

But I know how my son is, and I know you just have to talk to him about it. You know, I tried telling Anthony that, You don`t need to speak him. Like, Carnel is able -- you`re able to talk to him and he understands right from wrong.

GRACE: Well, I have a concern if he would spank the boy hard enough to bruise his little booty, that`s pretty forceful, to get bruises on your rear end.

CHAMBERLAIN: Yes. Yes, I recently just -- I recently noticed this about - - it was about a week ago when I noticed the bruises on his butt.

GRACE: OK. So that`s been in the last week?

GRACE: When you asked him about it, what did he say Carnel had done to deserve a spanking?

CHAMBERLAIN: He hasn`t -- he hasn`t really explained to me why. He just said that, like -- I know one of the times is because he didn`t clean his room. And he said, I keep going in there and asking him, and he`s not doing what I`m saying. So I know he spanked him because one of the times just because he wouldn`t clean his room.

CHAMBERLAIN: Yes. Yes. We were training him to be a grown man. And we were -- you know, he`d clean his room. We were pretty much making -- trying to make him do chores and stuff at 4.

GRACE: Let me ask you about Carnel.

CHAMBERLAIN: OK.

GRACE: How long has the boyfriend been living in the home? And did that bother your son, your 4-year-old son, when he moved in?

CHAMBERLAIN: Well, he moved in -- we started -- we dated about seven months now, and we moved in with each other around -- about the end of February or March. And this is the only man that my son has called Stepdad. He`s the only man that -- since his father has not been around, this is the only guy that Carnel felt comfortable enough to call him Stepdad.

GRACE: Well, did he ever complain about Anthony spanking him or being mean to him?

CHAMBERLAIN: (INAUDIBLE) he had complained to me about him being mean to him and stuff. And I just told him, I was, like -- you know, I was, like, You should just listen to what Anthony`s trying to say to you. Because I thought it was just him being -- you know, Carnel being, like, you know, a little boy trying to say, No, I don`t want to clean my room, you know? But I didn`t think of nothing like that until now.

Cubby, there are so many factors at play here. The Federal 3 Strikes law ONLY applies if the rez oks it. There is cross jurisdiction with Isabella County and the tribe, again with certain factors/conditions. We have company and I can't dig out my Native Law books now to see the specific conditions. I do know that in a murder charge on the rez, Federal supercedes state/county and Federal is in tandem with tribal.

Because he is charged Federal, as per The Major Crimes Act, the DP is again dependent on the tribe's stance on the DP.
