Hi Everyone,

I'm new to Web Sleuths, registered against my better judgment. It's one more thing that takes my attention away from things I should be doing. But this is an excellent site. I've learned things here and am impressed by the professionalism and knowledge brought to the pages. This case surely breaks my heart.

Jacie Estes, you posted a link about the effects of the past on Native Americans. I believe there is a medical term to describe it. We carry in our genes what our ancestors experienced. Looks as tho I don't have permission to look up posts by any one member. Would you please post that link again?

Also, has anyone gotten more info on the involvement of BIA? Particularly regarding access to the house when Carnel was first missing?

Welcome, Chella, good to see you here. :) I've included my post on 'Historical Trauma' in this response, I hope that is what you meant. You are correct that we carry in our genes our Ancestors' pain. That feeling never leaves.

Also, there has been no definitive answer about BIA involvement at Carnel's house, yet.

There is a factor called Historical Trauma that is at the core. When you have ancestors who were forced marched on The Trail of Tears or The Long Walk, ancestors slaughtered at The Wounded Knee Massacre or Sand Creek Massacre, The Fall Creek Massacre or The Massacre at Ywahoo Falls there are few pictures of Ancestors in family poses. Instead there are photos like the one of Spotted Elk: WARNING GRAPHIC

and the mass graves that included infants:

indian-spotted-elk-dead-at-wounded-knee-8x6.jpg

We don't have the 'American Gothic' paintings, we have military slogans like:

'Kill the Indian to Save the Man' over the main door at The Carlisle School and, "Kill them big and small," Chivington reportedly said, "nits become lice" at The Sand Creek Massacre. He was speaking of Indian infants. Their skulls were bashed in with rifle butts.

This is what KC was referring to; I applaud him for his words, for keeping it real. The rez is not Disneyland, no matter how much percap there is. The sorrow in one's heart, because you know that your Ancestors were murdered or kept in inhumane conditions because of a genocide perpetrated upon them, never leaves you. No one is Indian on their skin, they are Indian in their heart and in their collective memory and the historical trauma.

That is something that either you know, or you have no comprehension of it. THAT is what I have been saying from my first post on this thread. I have never met nor probably will ever meet Jaimee but, in blood, we are sisters. I have compassion for her, I have empathy for her.

I don't see a horrible flawed woman, I see a woman who was in over her head and who will grieve for the rest of her days.

Heartfelt thanks, Jacie Estes. I'm not Native American, but your posts have touched my heart and I agree with you. Not sure why this case is touching me so deeply, but it seems to be bringing up pain on a deep level. I often think of the lines from a Nat Am prayer: The pain of one is the pain of all and the honor of one is the honor of all.

I have utmost respect for KC, his keeping it real, his ability to keep the focus on the seven Grandfather teachings, and yet never appearing to set himself above others.

BBM-As do I have respect for Kevin Chamberlain. He stepped up in tragedy and knew exactly what to do. He was the voice for Carnel and the memorial honored Carnel. The video makes you cry through laughter. I loved that the video started with the Sponge Bob Squarepants song. :D Kudos to Kevin Chamberlain for uniting all in crisis; he is truly Leader.

Ditto! I would love to see Kevin Chamberlain join us here at websleuths. I think he might be the only one able to answer some of the questions presented upthread with regards to the legal stuff. I have the utmost respect and admiration for how he has handled the situation. He is a true voice for not only his family, but the community as a whole. He is an example for us all.

In the video linked below, a reporter asks AB, "Anything to say Anthony"?

His reply, "Innocent".

What does he mean by innocent? Of the assault charges, or to murdering Carnel and burying him under the house? I see the writing on the defense's wall, but I have faith Carnel will receive justice. Anthony Bennett and Chambers can posture all they want.

I was hoping they were going to charge him with murder already. It concerns me that they cannot do so yet. AB was babysitting a young boy who was later found burned and buried under the porch. It seems like a case that can be proven. I wonder what the hold up is?

I think they are waiting for lab results and for the Medical Examiner's report. The ME should be able to say, what kind of tool marks (if any) are on the remains. Ashes from the woodstove, tools from around the home were probably taken and are being examined. The blood Jaimee saw on the bathroom carpeting. Drains were probably removed.

There are taking their time to build a solid case, that's what I choose to believe at this point. The assault charges keep him in jail and buy them time.

I'm sure your right, Knox. Additionally, from what I recall, the family statement was (parpaphrased) a substantial portion of Carnel's body was found severly burnt. That leads me to believe a portion of his remains were not found. Gosh, I hate typing that.......

I think when all is said and done, and the facts are laid out at trial, Anthony Bennett is going to prove to be as evil as Nathan Sloop, or Mike Plumadore.

I'm trying to be patient, but I know it is hard not to worry AB might never be charged with Carnel's murder. I pray that is not the case. :please:

Interesting court news from hearing on Monday as reported by link.

Mmmmm ...

BAY CITY, Mich —
The man accused of abusing a 4-year old boy, who was found dead last month in Mt Pleasant was back in the courtroom Monday.

Court records show Bennett, who was living with Carnel and his mom, admitted to choking and hitting the child in the past.

FOX 17 caught up with is defense attorney after today's arraignment.
He expects this case will go to trial and be a long fight, and questions the validity of the prosecution’s argument.

If he admitted to choking and hitting Carnel in the past, what is he pleading not guilty to, great bodily injury? I have to go back and look at the charges.

Anyone have a Pacer account?

Also from the fox17online link provided above by southernnana:

"On June 21, Bennett was watching 4 year old Carnel while his mother was at work. When she returned home, she reported the child missing. Three days later, after an extensive search, the boy's burned body was found under the porch at the home, which is located on tribal land in Mt. Pleasant."

BBM. I don't remember the source, but do remember reading something about this. The search was continued and the finding of remains was not announced until 6/28. Another point I don't understand in this case.

(Please bear with me as I figure out how to use formatting in my posts.)

I think this is a paraphrased version of what JC told LE/FBI. We know from previous MSM AB admitted to JC he abused Carnel. I don't think he admitted it to anyone else though.

I thought Carnel's remains were found on the 28th. Is the 24th an MSM error or a leak?

ETA: Oh gosh, it just occured to me it is possible the remains found under the porch occured on the 24th but it wasn't until the 28th forensic pathologists determined them to be human.

No worries. I pulled out the same portion of the article. If you hit the quote button, you should be able to quote the users entire post. To shorten it, you can cut from within the post, but in order for the post to still appear within the quote box, you need the full [/quote] at the start and finish of the portion of the post you are trying to quote. HTH, I am still a bit spacy from quitting smoking a few weeks ago.

also, you need a min number of posts to have full access to member benefits. Sometimes people go down to the game room (members only area at the bottom of the main forum) and play a few games to bump their post numbers. Please feel free to ask us questions, and I will try to find the area where members can ask questions about posting how to's for you.

hth.

I have not previously read in MSM that AB admitted to choking and hitting Carnel, so I was surprised, at the remark in the Fox17 news article ... is it true, IDK.

I agree with you Knox, why did he say "innocent"to the reporter ... except just felt the need to say so. If the court records do reflect that AB admitted the choking and hitting, he may know the admission will not be public info until after the trial.

The statement by Def Atty Chambers was more interesting to me. IMO, by his remark "he expects the case will go to trial and "be a long fight" indicates his thinking regarding fighting a murder charge.
