Hi Everyone,
I'm new to Web Sleuths, registered against my better judgment. It's one more thing that takes my attention away from things I should be doing. But this is an excellent site. I've learned things here and am impressed by the professionalism and knowledge brought to the pages. This case surely breaks my heart.
Jacie Estes, you posted a link about the effects of the past on Native Americans. I believe there is a medical term to describe it. We carry in our genes what our ancestors experienced. Looks as tho I don't have permission to look up posts by any one member. Would you please post that link again?
Also, has anyone gotten more info on the involvement of BIA? Particularly regarding access to the house when Carnel was first missing?
Heartfelt thanks, Jacie Estes. I'm not Native American, but your posts have touched my heart and I agree with you. Not sure why this case is touching me so deeply, but it seems to be bringing up pain on a deep level. I often think of the lines from a Nat Am prayer: The pain of one is the pain of all and the honor of one is the honor of all.
I have utmost respect for KC, his keeping it real, his ability to keep the focus on the seven Grandfather teachings, and yet never appearing to set himself above others.
BBM-As do I have respect for Kevin Chamberlain. He stepped up in tragedy and knew exactly what to do. He was the voice for Carnel and the memorial honored Carnel. The video makes you cry through laughter. I loved that the video started with the Sponge Bob Squarepants song.Kudos to Kevin Chamberlain for uniting all in crisis; he is truly Leader.
I was hoping they were going to charge him with murder already. It concerns me that they cannot do so yet. AB was babysitting a young boy who was later found burned and buried under the porch. It seems like a case that can be proven. I wonder what the hold up is?

I think they are waiting for lab results and for the Medical Examiner's report. The ME should be able to say, what kind of tool marks (if any) are on the remains. Ashes from the woodstove, tools from around the home were probably taken and are being examined. The blood Jaimee saw on the bathroom carpeting. Drains were probably removed.
There are taking their time to build a solid case, that's what I choose to believe at this point. The assault charges keep him in jail and buy them time.

BAY CITY, Mich
The man accused of abusing a 4-year old boy, who was found dead last month in Mt Pleasant was back in the courtroom Monday.
Court records show Bennett, who was living with Carnel and his mom, admitted to choking and hitting the child in the past.
FOX 17 caught up with is defense attorney after today's arraignment.
He expects this case will go to trial and be a long fight, and questions the validity of the prosecutions argument.
Also from the fox17online link provided above by southernnana:
"On June 21, Bennett was watching 4 year old Carnel while his mother was at work. When she returned home, she reported the child missing. Three days later, after an extensive search, the boy's burned body was found under the porch at the home, which is located on tribal land in Mt. Pleasant."
BBM. I don't remember the source, but do remember reading something about this. The search was continued and the finding of remains was not announced until 6/28. Another point I don't understand in this case.
(Please bear with me as I figure out how to use formatting in my posts.)
If he admitted to choking and hitting Carnel in the past, what is he pleading not guilty to, great bodily injury? I have to go back and look at the charges.
