Detroit boy, 12, to be interviewed by feds about disappearance, discovery in family home

Detroit — Federal authorities are expected to interview an autistic 12-year-old boy Tuesday who was missing for 11 days before he was found barricaded in his own basement last week to determine whether a request for a warrant will be submitted to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, according to Detroit police.

Child abuse charges are likely to be filed against the boy’s father, Charlie Bothuell IV, said his attorney, Mark Magidson, who denied any abuse...

I've been following regularly, and this is the first time I've seen Charlie described as autistic.

Same here. There was mention that Charlie had some "behavior issues" and was "doing poorly in school" prior to coming to live with his dad. I guess Dad thought that homeschooling and the forced exercise regimen would get his son back in line.

It's been reported that Charlie's father and stepmother have supervised visitation with the boy. I hope this stays in place for a while because I'm afraid that Mr. Bothuell will try to manipulate young Charlie into saying what he wants the boy to say when being interviewed by authorities. I suspect that Dad is already :stormingmad: about what's been reported in the media with regard to the "extreme discipline" imposed on his son. If and when he gets an opportunity, I'm afraid that Mr. Bothuell will abuse Charlie again. :moo:

If Charlie has autism, he may better served in a school setting. You can't beat it out them. Also, if he is, he's very high functioning. This family is dysfunction at it's finest. Maybe one day, we'll know the truth.

Oh gosh. Just sat through the whole wedding video trying to catch a glimpse of Charlie. He didn't seem to figure at all though. It was all 'you and I'.

Me too... I've emailed the writer to verify. I was reading an earlier story quickly and interpreted their line 'athletic' child as 'autistic' child at first. So when I saw this I wondered if the writer must have done the same thing reading earlier reports.

They have two other children who have autism. I think the reporter got it wrong. Google charlie's name and autism or autistic and it comes up.

I had the newscast on TV. Nothing about the case. Channel 4 has news at 4:00, 5:00, 5:30, 6:00, and 11:00PM. Hopefully, there will be an update later.

I haven't seen the date on this yet..But here's the Dad. Seems like he's pleading to the media to clear his name and I hear him saying repeatedly "I don't need to take a polygraph." Um..OK? JMO

DH and I were watching SVU but I noticed at the commercial that Nancy Grace was on the case. That video clip of Mr. and Mrs. Bothuell :sick: with them smiling at one another and for cameras. If they get Charlie back, I have no doubt that he will be abused again because they will be :furious: that he put them through this.

Mr. Bothuell seems very arrogant and the type of person who doesn't want anyone telling him how to parent his children. The man is a control freak and wants things done his way. Young Charlie was likely terrified of his father. Poor kid. :moo:

Yes, I felt the same. It's a nice video but knowing what we do of them, it's hard to sit through them smiling at each other.

Police sources confirmed for Local 4 that specialists from the FBI sat down with 12-year-old Charlie Bothuell for an interview Tuesday to give expert analysis on whether he has been abused.

Bothuell went missing for 11 days and was found by police in his parents' basement while his father Charles Bothuell IV was being interviewed live by Nancy Grace.

Court records show the 12-year-old said he's been abused and that his stepmother allegedly knew he was in the basement the entire time...

Once again, Mr. Bothuell seems overly concerned about his public image. "I want my name cleared. I want my wife's name cleared. I want my family's name cleared."

Sorry, Charlie, but you brought this on yourself and have no one else to blame for this situation. You (and your wife?) have been abusing your 12-year-old son with harsh discipline, beating him with PVC pipe, insisting on a ridiculous workout regimen, and maybe even punishing young Charlie by withholding food. Mr. Bothuell, you're a control freak, and your parenting methods are cruel and unusual. You got caught, and it's troubling you because the world now knows that you're a monster :furious: I hope you (and your wife) are charged with abuse and arrested later today. :moo:
