There haven't been updates in the case beyond the court appearances of Charlie's dad and stepmom. They requested a jury trial on child custody issues that is scheduled for next month and will determine whether or not young Charlie and/or his younger siblings will be returned to the dad's home. Charlie has been living with his bio-mom while the young siblings are being cared for by Mrs. Bothuell's relatives.

I just read that article, yet my calendar says it's supposed to be Sept. 8. Oh well, we'll see what happens.

There is a jury trial set for September 8 that will determine whether or not parental rights to young Charlie will be denied for his father. Today's hearing was with regard to custody of the younger children of Mr. Bothuell and his wife, Charlie's stepmother.

The parents of a Detroit boy who was found barricaded in the basement of his home after being reported missing for days have been granted visitation to his two younger siblings.

During a custody hearing on Friday, a judge said Charlie Bothuell Sr. and his wife, Monique Dillard Bothuell, could see their 4-year-old and 10-month-old children over the Labor Day weekend...

...The couple is still not able to see the 12-year-old.

The jury trial for the family to get the children back had been slated to start in September, but during Friday's hearing it was pushed back to January...

So I wonder if Charlie has been questioned about his siblings and parents. If he's not talking, I have no idea where this is headed. (In regards to their relationship with the younger children)

Not sure if Charlie has offered information about abuse or neglect of his two younger siblings. According to media reports yesterday following the hearing, young Charlie will testify against his parents during the jury trial that is now set for late January. His defense attorney has requested a "partition" so that Charlie does not have to look at his parents during his testimony.

Furious ! I understand delays, but why do they delay for SIX months? Why not a week or 2 delay? Six months just seems unreasonable. Grrr

At the recent custody hearing, the Bothuells' attorney said that he needed more time to prepare for the trial, so the Judge agreed to postpone until late January.

Why are these parents insisting on putting their child through the stress of a trial? Hasn't young Charlie endured enough already? :rolleyes:

Im gonna have a dissenting opinion here but it is an opinion based on the limited available info... I think the kid ran away and hid out on his own. Probably to hide from his stern, disciplining, regimented, and Caring father, and his stepmother, that just by the fact that its his Stepmother, he needs no other reason to resent and dislike.
This is Detroit folks, life is very different, even for me in the suburbs of it. And(at face value) I wish there were more families trying to instill the kind of discipline and values that this father appears to be. Of course the SM had a gun, again this is Detroit. She should've went about it in a legal way, however if you read our headlines, you would be crazy to be a homeowner in the city without one.
4K steps on an ellipitical is 2 miles...not a big deal at all for a 12 year old to be required to accomplish IMO. It takes a lot of additional parenting work to build a child in Detroit to someone of strength and character, and again, I might eat my words, but so far I have seen nothing that proves this family was doing anything wrong to their son.

Well, I'd kind of say that the removal of this boy and his siblings from their parents is an indication. We don't have the "proof" but the authorities do. And the court found whatever they have to be compelling enough to keep those kids way from these two.

A new date has been set for a trial that will determine if the father and stepmother of a Detroit boy found in his basement after an 11-day disappearance will lose custody of their children.

The trial for Charlie Bothuell IV and Monique Dillard-Bothuell had been set for November and then late January, but a judge on Wednesday moved the date to Jan. 12.

The attorney general's office, who is representing says it isn't happy with the timeline and may file a motion to move the case before another judge...

This is the most recent update in the Bothuell case. I checked all local media sources and couldn't find text anywhere. The only report is this video that I saw on WDIV newscast last Thursday. The parents have been granted nightly visits with the two younger children because the 4-year-old autistic boy is having difficulties away from his parents. Due to flood damage and the need for overtime pay for investigators, little progress has been made in the criminal case against Mr. and Mrs. Bothuell. They are still not able to visit with young Charlie.
