Since the Bruck sisters and the Niswender twins attended the same high school, I hope that someone has looked through the yearbooks for the time that any of the girls were there. We know that Chelsea spoke to a (female) friend from high school at the Halloween party. It's possible that the POI was someone who Chelsea knew from high school, too. The young man wouldn't necessarily have been in Chelsea's class but could have attended the school at the same time. I doubt very much that Chelsea left with someone she didn't know at least casually from previous concerts, school, etc. :moo:

In a nutshell, the PXP band replied they had offered to do a benefit and were declined They invited anyone to attend their events and pass out fliers.

I guess what I mean is sitting at home, complaining in a forum that the band isn't doing enough is not really accomplishing anything in my mind. We cannot control what others do. Yeah, certainly contact the band, flood their page yourself with the flyer, do SOMETHING. Speculation about why the POI image flyer wasn't shared on the page by them is a decent conversation, that leads to ideas of perhaps them trying protecting someone, but that wasn't really the direction the conversation that was going on here. There was nearly a full page of posts dedicated to talking about what the BAND could have done better and I didn't really feel like it was leading to anything positive or enlightening. I feel like at this point trying to focus on positive things - distributing flyers in more areas, wearing and displaying the purple ribbons, talking to more people about the case etc... will do a lot more good. A lot of people in the specific age group of the fans and band are just apathetic. They aren't going to care at all as long as case doesn't affect them directly. Also, flooding their own page with stuff about the case is not necessarily going to help their business of selling either. I run my own business and know that sort of things can cause you to lose fans or followers on your page. If things got heated in conversations online between the band and the family perhaps that would have something to do with it too...

Nothing yet. I went on Allegan Sheriffs FB and asked them that question yesterday.

There are several contributors here, myself included, who have done more than just discuss the case. Websleuthers have circulated the missing posters, called or emailed LE with tips, attended fundraising events, participated in searches, met with family members to offer support, donated money to the reward/search fund, etc.

You're misunderstanding, I love the discussions. I just don't like the stuff that verges on trash talk about the band. I appreciate EVERYTHING that anyone has done for the search effort. Especially those who are not directly connected to the family.

Smushbox, I appreciate your thoughtful posts and understand where you are coming from. We can't make others do a darned thing, nor make them care. We can only do whatever we as individuals are able to do, and as much as we are capable of taking on.

We went to lunch yesterday at Olga's where Chelsea worked and hugged a few of her friends. They have a very nice display on their counter with a Christmas basket of bulbs dedicated to Chelsea, fliers and ribbons to wear. I put a ribbon on my coat while there. I found the bracelet makes me break out in a rash, so I clipped it to my purse. I pass out fliers when I go places. I asked the band about fliers at their events or a benefit and got a nice reply from them (they were turned down with an offer for a benefit). I have stopped at the headquarters for a donation and hugs. I put up a flier and purple wreath on my house front door.

I wonder how many people really pay attention to these things unless they have a personal connection or reason to look for "signs"? It seems everywhere I go I am noticing the purple color in things or places all the time. Coincidence or purposely done? What really struck me was a missing button that attaches my hood to my winter coat. I could not find an exact match to replace it, but found a black (instead of brown) one that was the right shape and size. What gave me a chill about this? On the back side of the button is an exact match to Chelsea's anchor!

You sound like a member of the band? If you are, welcome! Please get the verified insider status, it will make the discussion even more productive. Naturally the band is scrutinized because the event happened on the band leaders property. It's good to hear they volunteered to do a benefit, and are willing to permit volunteers to pass flyers out at their events.

We are willing to run the risk of offending if we believe it will help bring Chelsea home.

No, I'm not a member of the band or an insider. Honestly, I don't like that sort of music at all, I'm rather old school. I've just been following the case closely since day one, I feel drawn to it for whatever reason like a lot of the folks who post here. I think it's a personal thing for me, I am really sensitive to hateful talk and I think I come here for reassurance that folks haven't forgotten about Chelsea and her family and to get that sense of togetherness and encouragement that comes from a community coming together in the light of tragedy. It's hopeful. I'm also (mildly) in the public eye as a visual artist and I know that if something terrible happened at an event that I hosted it would be a hard thing to deal with the criticism. I can put myself in their shoes. Seeing things from all points of view, I kinda felt like the only one who would stick up for the band. It's a tough situation. These sort of terrible tragedies can happen anywhere at any time...

Exactly. She knew this guy enough to accept a ride. Only her friends and sister could tell us if Chelsea would have ever accepted a ride from a random guy at a concert. She certainly doesn't appear to be the type of gal who would have. If he was a follower of PAP or one of the other bands, he would have most likely been a fan on their page(s).

That said, I realize that young people often don't "think" about the inherent dangers in taking risks and can be prone to acting impulsively. I don't think this is the case with Chelsea; at least, I hope that she didn't accept a ride with someone that she didn't know at least casually from previous concerts, school, community, etc.

Absolutely! No person would intentionally put themselves in danger. If she felt uncomfortable she would've found an excuse to get away from the man or found a way to indicate to the vendor that spoke to them that the POI's presence was unwelcome. The only other factor could be level of intoxication since she was at a party, but according to everything family members and friends have stated prior, she wasn't the type to get out of control.

Agree and wonder about her taking a ride.... while not intoxicated, a bit of booze might have altered her judgment, relaxing her guard....

Now if this fellow was a stranger, there on the prowl looking for opportunity to trick a gal into accepting a ride, unless he was very lucky, would think he would tried and failed a few attempts with before connecting...

Okay, seem like I like hearing myself talk, as none of this helps find her, and this case is in need of a break..

Sigh.... I know life has to go on, but I find this sad. Apparently Mrs. Bruck is returning to work tomorrow, according to the Find Chelsea Bruck page. The headquarters is cutting back on when they will be open. New hours: Sunday, TUESDAY, Thursday, and Saturdays from 12-4pm. Yard signs, bracelets, T-shirts, fliers will still be available there.

I would also like to mention for the benefit of those not local that southeastern lower Michigan is now in the throes of winter :snowflake: We had a reprieve during December with higher than normal temperatures and below normal precipitation. I don't know how much searching went on during the holidays, but the weather will now likely curtail searches. We had a wintry mix (sleet, freezing rain, rain, snow) yesterday with a couple of inches of snow overnight. It is bitterly cold with significant wind chills today. It would be dangerous for anyone to be outdoors searching today, and local forecasts call for more of the same for at least the next week.
