I truly hope that these two terrible excuses for human beings get the absolute fullest extent of the law. I am in such shock at what they did, they completely planned this out and lured this man to his death!

It really bothers me that the articles about his death say 'sex offender found beheaded' as well. Personally, when he is 17 and she 14, they are BOTH minors, JMHO. I don't think he should have had that tag to carry around for the rest of his life if he didn't rape and force himself on her.
I remember having older boyfriends when I was 15-16 that were 18 or so and their mentallity was about my age. My parents loved them, they ate at our home...Now, I'm sure I dated one or two they didn't care for too.

I think this story is sad and sick.

I read a book on the history of punishment and even though people thought they were doing the right thing - the violence and heinous acts on other humans were just as vile if not worse than scrolling through these pages show. People have been capable of some pretty horrendous things on a grand scale since the first guy discovered he could be.

Glitch, while I understand what you are saying, I disagree about categorizing this as "punishment". What these two teenagers (3?) did was not "punishment". This was a horrific act on another innocent human being because someone thought it would be fun.

I feel so badly for Daniel's family. I can't imagine being them and ever being able to close my eyes again without going crazy.

I don't mean this was punishment. I'm just saying that people have been cruel for a very long time. Whether it was for punishment or any other "reason." If you have it in you to do it, you have it in you to do it - is what I mean.

This is unbelievable why would they want to plan a murder???? senseless they should have been in the military doing something worth while with their lives and for our country. Sick sick sick and Daniel should never ever have been an registered sex offender MAYBE that is what we should do send 18 year olds to the military for boot camp and some sense of what it is to be a man with responsibility. jmo

I don't think the armed services want these sorts of sociopaths. If these killers can't abide by our laws against murder, how will they ever follow military regs?

I know boot camp can work wonders with mere immaturity, but the problem goes beyond that here.

Parents of one of the suspects cannot believe charges. Although, I feel terrible for them, I think they need to open their eyes. Such a sad case for all the parents involved. :( I just couldn't imagine being the victims parents or the suspects parents thinking that your child could be responsible for such a crime.

You can't open your eyes when it's your child. God gave us this thing called DENIAL and it's given in triple doses to moms. I think that's what keeps us humans from eating our young.

I think it can happen at times. I think it really depends if the parent really can deny what they really know is real in their hearts.

I remember the father of the Lancaster Pa kid that went in a home and murdered a mom, dad and their son and his father talked to his 16 year old son and told him he had to give himself up. He also turned over to LE forensic evidence.

And in another case which I cant remember the names now, a mother turned her son in for murdering someone. I think he had confessed to her that he did it.

So imo it depends on whether the parent can live with the guilt of knowing their child is guilty or have the capacity to deny it. How does someone deny something when everything points that their child did it? I have never understood denial. I have always felt dealing with something head on is much better with much better results rather than denying what is there.

Maybe if you already knew in your heart that it was possible. I can't fathom my child doing something horrific. If she did, I'd love her just as much as I do now - and it would be impossible for me to let her face the death penalty. Impossible.

I'd keep her restrained myself, maybe, but no matter what, I don't want her dead.

I'm kind of glad it DOES say "sex offender" in the thread title, because apparently for some posters here, justice is completely dependent upon the cleanliness or lack thereof of the victim. HOPEFULLY those posters will think their position through and make some changes in their way of thinking.

I agree - not necessarily about the posters, but people in general. These are the people who are on your jury. Better hope you're squeeky clean when 12 people who don't know you are deciding your fate.

DETROIT — One of two teenagers charged in the slaying, burning and beheading of a man was sentenced Wednesday to 20 to 30 years in prison.
Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Annette Berry sentenced Alexander Letkemann in the Nov. 7 slaying of Daniel Sorensen, 26.
Letkemann, 18, also was sentenced to three to 10 years for mutilation of a corpse. The sentences will run concurrently.
He received a stern lecture from Berry, who asked why Letkemann didn't do something to stop his friend, Jean Pierre Orlewicz, from killing Sorensen in a Canton Township garage belonging to Orlewicz' grandfather.
"This was a premeditated, calculated act. Nothing short of violent, sadistic pleasure ," said Berry, leaning forward toward Letkemann in the Detroit courtroom.

regarding what people were saying earlier about cheering on sex offender's deaths, this guy certainly does not deserve for us to be happy of his death, and i'm sure anyone who said that in the beginning didn't know all the facts. but let me tell you, if he had raped a baby or a small child, i wouldn't care if he was beheaded. i wouldn't do it myself, but i wouldn't feel sorry for him.

it was really wrong of them to mention he was a sex offender in the first place. especially since it had nothing to do with his death. it's pretty obvious.
