From our VI (Holocene), post #330 on the 1st thread:

From what I understand, there was no sign of disturbance inside. K9 Unit was unable to detect anything either. The area had been contaminated due to a high volume of traffic going in and out of her apartment on the day of the search party (family and friends), however it was still essentially ruled out that there had been any sign of disturbance inside the apartment.
Do we even know family/friends opened the apt? So much already posted and read I can't remember if they did. I do know they made it out that nothing seemed off but that could have been them going in with police there.

Thank you, you get an A today from me for remembering that. That does put a damper on processing the apt.

IIRC, family members (not sure who, exactly) went to D's apartment and commented to the effect that "nothing seemed disturbed, and there was no indication that anything was taken, etc." Not sure if LE was there at the time or not.

I'm really disappointed that the update from LE had no real information. I wasn't expecting much, if they had any breaking news I'm sure it would have come out as breaking news, not as a presser announced a few days prior. But there was no new information released, and, like others have said, it seemed to be purely for the purpose of keeping her name and face out there. Which is by far not a bad thing, but I just hoped they had more.

At first I thought they were being so tight lipped because they had a POI and were waiting for them to slip up. Now I feel like they don't know anything and they never took it seriously in the first place, so now it's too late to find any real information. I can't even imagine what her friends and family are feeling right now.

For me, there are only two scenarios that I believe are possible at this stage -

1. Dani knew her attacker and was lured to her abduction. For her to have left her purse in the car it would have to be someone nearby though, more than likely someone living in the complex who intercepted her as she walked from her car to the front door, otherwise I don't see her leaving her purse in the car if she were planning on leaving the complex completely.

2. It was a random crime of opportunity and the killer struck in the seconds it would have taken for her to walk from her car to the apartment door. AtomicAngela's story does give weight to this, even if it wasn't the same guy, these things can (and do) happen.

I flip between both of these almost hourly. We don't have much to go on, so at this stage it could really be anything.

I'm still playing the same song that we can't discount that she was "carjacked' or abducted along the way home and perp returned her car. Perp May or May not have known her but DL would give her address. IF that is what happened, perp is diabolical and well organized. Returning the car with her things intact would slow down the investigation/throw off LE on what happened or WHERE it happened.
We had a woman from here, years ago, that was in NC and had stopped at a Wilmington shopping mall doing errands. Broad daylight, nice neighborhood, and as she was getting into car, 2 guys pushed in after her and took off. Nobody saw a thing. LE did not take it as a kidnapping for quite awhile as her car was found parked and nothing amiss and adults are allowed to "disappear". Her mom flew from here to there and started pounding the pavement. As a matter of fact, this case is what really launched CUE into the public and LE eye. It was a CUE search that found her body 50 miles away from where she was taken on private farm land. 7 months after she disappeared. 2 men abduct a woman in broad daylight, highly trafficked, nice area, and no one saw a thing.
Holocene...perhaps you could tell the family to give CUE a call. That woman is relentless in her searches and is very successful. She has thousands of volunteers nationwide. Worth a shot because they WILL keep searching.

Interesting that the dogs couldn't pick up on her...it really is papini part deux

I hope LE has told Danielle's family more than they've presented to the public. If I were the parents in this situation, I would be :stormingmad: if LE simply told me, "We suspect your daughter is the victim of a crime" without further explanation. I'd be asking plenty of questions and demanding answers.

I'm sure they have more info than us, but probably not much more. Either LE has nothing more or they are watching a poi . A lot of times the family is left in the dark to preserve the integrity of the evidence and investigation. The LE priority is the victim, not the family.

From today's Fox2:

[h=1]Farmington Hills PD: missing Danielle Stislicki a victim of a crime[/h]
Investigators have collected evidence currently under analysis and examination. No information will be released regarding the specifics of the case in order to maintain the integrity of an active investigation.

Yeah. I can imagine a scenario where that guy was either

a) looking specifically for Danielle, and backed off when he got a better look at Atomic and realised she was not his target, or

b) looking for a female victim who was happy to go with him willingly, but Atomic was on the phone [meaning someone on the other end of the call was a witness] and distracted, appearing standoffish. Danielle by all accounts was bubbly and friendly and out of a desire to help, may have started answering this guy's questions and relaxed around him, and been easy prey.

Idk, just spitballing possibilities. But I think a) is more likely. I think this was targeted, though the abductor might not have known Danielle well or at all and might be working on behalf of someone else (which is why he mistook Atomic for Danielle at first).

Just a possibility, no hitching my wagon to this theory at all.

LE has told me they are "not convinced" my story and DS are related so I'm going to post what took place in my encounter. I don't know if this means they have another lead or if they've dismissed my story as just being coincidental.

I arrived home around 6pm and was on the phone. I parked immediately outside my door exactly like DS. I asked my friend to hang on while I got stuff out of the backseat of my car through the driver's side rear door. As I was bent in my car, I heard a man say, "Excuse me." I straightened up and he was standing diagonal from me across the parking lot, approximately 10 feet away. He was standing by the driver's side rear bumper. He said to me, "Are these all the same address?" and motioned at the building. I didn't understand the question and said, "Uhhhh." He hurredily said, "I mean is this all the same complex?" I said yes and then pointed over at Muirwood and said, "That's a different one." At that point, he started to say something else and walk toward me. I lifted the phone to my ear and said, "Hang on, this guy is trying to talk to me." He had closed the gap to about halfway between us but as I raised the phone to talk, he said, "NEVER MIND." He spun around, power walked back to his car, threw it in reverse, and sped off at a high rate of speed.

The questions were odd as he was clearly looking for a specific apartment address. They are obviously all the same complex. Looking at pictures online can show anyone that every building in here with the exception of the townhomes looks the exact same - red brick, white trim, black shutters.

I purposely have not mentioned what he or the car looks like. This is the first time I've been caught up in something like this and even though LE said they're "not convinced" I am still skittish. Also, I am still not a VI although I emailed WS on Saturday. I don't think I'm breaking any rules in posting this but if I am, my apologies to the mods!

He is suspect to me. If he was really trying to find an apartment of a friend or something, he've said "Do you know where apartment 500A is" or something. And the way he took off when he saw you on the phone is very suspect. Not sure why LE isn't more concerned about this encounter.

Appreciate your post.

Did you notice anything in his hand? If he had grabbed you how far was it to his car? He has to reverse out? I wouldn't expect a perp to have to reverse out imo. Seems he has enough steps away that a scream and fight from you would have gotten attention.
Maybe just a guy trying to find a buddy that lives there. Complexes that you don't live in are like a foreign world when you are looking for a specific building or unit. I always feel lost in them.

And therein lies the EXACT reason I wrestled with calling the police. Friday night it was whatever, lost guy. Sunday when there was someone missing, it didn't fit. His car had no identifying marks on it which doesn't mean anything but it did have out-of-state plates. He had nothing in his hands walking toward me like he was going to ask where an address was.

Regarding -

Wow! That is odd, and scary IMO. If I were looking for a certain apt, I'd say "Excuse me, I'm lost here, can you please tell me where apt (so and so) might be at?" I would never close in like he did on a woman, or even another man.....

If I got no response, I would not do what he did -- fast walking back to his car and speeding away... something very odd about that!

  • #935
That's understandable, I would've wrestled with the same thoughts in regard to calling in a tip. Definitely think you made the right decision to call LE... better safe than sorry.

  • #936
Well, I have to ask AtomicAngela (you don't have to answer if this is going too far) let's just suppose: you were not on the phone and this guy came closer. And then, tried to grap you, do you think you could've fought him off? Was anyone else around? If you screamed, would anyone hear you?

There was nothing in his hand. There was approximately 10ish feet between our bumpers, maybe a bit more. He did reverse out as he was pulled in a parking spot. There was no one in the lot at the time and the security lights were burnt out (and have since been fixed). You cannot see me getting out of my car if you just happened to pull into the lot, you have to be right on my building. He followed me into the lot and parked. I thought he was a neighbor who drives a similar car and didn't think anything of it.

I feel like I can't explain it. It wasn't necessarily the questions, it was the way it all happened. The personality? Tha mannerisms? I told the police he was remarkably average except that he kept looking around. Like, head moving looking around the entire time we were talking. He very abruptly started walking toward me while still looking around. Questions were very fast, like not waiting for my response before he started talking.

I'm not exaggerating when I say that I have asked literally everyone I've told about this if im overreacting. I don't want to make something out of nothing, I don't want to waste LE time. I have nothing to gain from this except my mom calling every hour to ask if I'm okay which surprisingly I don't want. I hope it was just a guy looking for an apartment but it's that gut feeling that I can't shake.

  • #938
Atomic did the guy have an accent? Just thinking I've run across many in area that are from other countries and an apt complex would be confusing as would asking questions.

Might not be able to answer on that but just a thought on situation.

Good question - never let a stranger get close to you when you are alone. We tend not to want to seem odd or rude, but best to run away or at least put enough distance between you and stranger where you can do so...

They're not convinced? So?? What are they doing to convince themselves one way or the other? They haven't spoken to you again, they haven't told you not to tell anyone,to me, that means you're free to discuss. Not to mention, if he approached someone else too! What if someone saw your post and said..hey, that guy approached me too! Now you have a pattern of some guy approaching lone women in a deserted parking lot. Plus...whenever I need to ask someone something when I'm driving, I always pull up alongside them or as close as I can and I stay in my car. I don't get out of my car and walk up to them. It was dark, are almost dark at that time, he had no business approaching you. This guy is suspect to me. So LE should vet him out. Or at the very least, put it out there to see if anyone says the same thing as you.
When Sierah was missing, LE put out to the public that they wanted anyone to come forward if they saw a motorcycle in the vicinity, etc. They said the motorcycle was not a suspect, they just wanted to talk to him, etc. (Of course he WAS a suspect, they just didn't say so) but they wanted the info and they got it..from the PUBLIC.
What if the guy who approached you car was put out there and somebody from her work could say..hey..I saw a car like that, or somebody in the apt. complex is jogged into remembering, hey..there was a car like that that I saw around the time she was taken? What he did after he saw you were on the phone is highly suspect IMO. IDK, Maybe I'm just getting to old..maybe I'm just hypersensitive because we lost Sierah, maybe I just don't care what people say anymore, I would be tempted to either go into the station and say..have you vetted this guy? Have you told the family? Why not? Why aren't you at least putting it out there because there are a whole lot of other women out here that need to know something kinda shady happened to me. LE has a tendency to dismiss a womans "intuition" that something was just not quite right. They should listen to us more. Maybe if they did, more of us wouldn't go missing, more of us would be aware that something is going on in our neighborhood, etc. Your story would generate SOMETHING, and people would call in ..with tips..which is what they say they want!
