Police search for missing 64-year-old woman suffering from dementia

Detroit Police need help finding a missing 64-year-old woman last seen on Aug. 2, 2018.

Officers say Deborah Reynolds was last seen on Oakland and Clay in August between the times of 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. by her brother. She has not been seen or heard from since, police say.

Deborah is also known to frequent the area of East 7 Mile Road and Gratiot.

Oh no!

A family is searching for answers believing their missing loved one could be another victim of a potential serial killer in Detroit.

Police scoured Detroit on Saturday, searching vacant homes for potential victims. On Friday, Deangelo Martin, a person of interest in the case, was arrested.

It's a connection no family ever wants to make -- a missing loved one was last seen with a person of interest in a serial killer investigation.

In August, Deborah Reynolds was reported missing.

The family later learned Reynolds had a run-in with police in Ferndale in September. Police dashcam footage shows Reynolds being detained outside a 7-Eleven in Ferndale. Martin was also detained at the location.

Ferndale police dropped the pair off at a gas station in Detroit. It was the last time Reynolds was seen.

The family wants to know why police left Reynolds alone with a stranger.

"The whole family has been terrified," said Andre Reynolds.

After contacting Crime Stoppers and canvassing neighborhoods, the Detroit Police Department now has the evidence from Ferndale.

"We want some answers," said Mattie Reynolds. "We need to know where she is."

Victims
  • Nancy Harrison - Body discovered on March 19 on Coventry Street -- she is considered the first victim.
  • Travesene Ellis - Body discovered on May 24 on Linnhurst Street -- she is considered the second victim.
  • Tamara M. Jones, who was found in a vacant house on Mack Avenue on Wednesday, June 5.
  • Anyone with information needs to contact police at 313-596-2260.

Hairbrush could link missing woman to Detroit serial killer case

Police said a hairbrush could be the piece of evidence that links a Detroit serial killer investigation with the disappearance of a woman.

Deborah Reynolds has been missing for months since she was last seen with Deangelo Martin, a suspect in the serial killer case, police said.

The two were caught on video in August. Police said Reynolds and Martin were drunk, so officers drove them across Eight Mile Road and dropped them off at a gas station at State Fair and Woodward avenues in Detroit.

Residents in the area told police Martin was living at a nearby abandoned home near the intersection of Annin Street and Woodward Avenue.

On Dec. 22, 2018, police found human remains wrapped in a sheet under a couch inside the abandoned home. The remains haven't been identified.

Reynolds' family said Detroit police officials went to their home and got a hairbrush belonging to Reynolds that had her hair on it. The brush is now being tested for DNA, family members said. ...

Suspected Detroit Serial Killer Bound Over For Trial In Woman's Rape, Attempted Murder [VIDEO]

JULY 16, 2019

"DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit man who police say is suspected in the deaths of three women has been bound over for trial on sexual assault charges in a separate case.

Deangelo Martin, 34, appeared in court Tuesday and was ordered to stand trial on four counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and a single count of assault with intent to murder in connection with an attack on a 26-year-old woman on May 7. ...

Martin hasn't been charged with the killings but is considered a person of interest. Detroit Police Chief James Craig has said he sees similarities between the three slayings and assaults of at least two women. Bodies were found in vacant houses and investigators are looking at more cases. Craig said it seems a single suspect has been targeting prostitutes, luring them into abandoned dwellings and killing them.

The first victim, identified as 52-year old Nancy Harrison, was found March 19 in an abandoned house on Coventry near I-75. A second woman, identified as 53-year old Travesene Ellis, was found May 24 in a home on Linnhurst near Schoenherr Road. A 55-year-old woman who hasn't been publicly identified was found dead June 5 on Mack near Mt. Elliot.

The 26-year-old in the May 7 case, as well as an additional victim, the chief said, survived attacks.

Police are also investigating whether a missing Ferndale woman could be one of the serial killer's victims. Martin was the last person seen with Deborah Reynolds, 64, before she was reported missing.

Martin is due back in court for a preliminary exam on July 23. "

Ferndale Police Say Suspected Serial Killer Was Seen With Missing Woman
Could Deborah Reynolds be a 6th victim?

JUNE 10, 2019

"FERNDALE (WWJ) - A suspected Detroit serial killer was apparently the last person seen with a missing woman before she disappeared.

That's according to Ferndale police, who say they are now assisting Detroit police in the case of 34-year-old Deangelo Martin, who is suspected in three killings and two attacks on Detroit's east side.

Ferndale police contact with Martin dates back to August 3 of last year, when they were called to the east Ferndale 7-11 on a report of "suspicious or disorderly people."

There police said they found Martin and a female companion, identified as 64-year-old Deborah Reynolds, sitting outside with an open container of alcohol. Each was offered a portable breath test. Martin was above the legal limit, police said, with Reynolds’ test was inconclusive...."

Remains identified as missing woman in Detroit suspected serial killer investigation

October 21, 2019

DETROIT - There's a major new development in Detroit's suspected serial killer investigation -- Local 4 has learned remains found on the city's west side have been identified as missing woman Deborah Reynolds.

Reynolds' family has long feared she was a victim in the suspected serial killer case.

Her remains were found in December in a home on Annin Street, just off Woodward Avenue. After months of testing, Reynolds' family received a call they have been dreading.

Reynolds went missing in August 2018 and her family has been in agony with no word about where she could be. The family's attorney said the family is now planning a memorial for Reynolds after getting that phone call.

"They received notification from the Detroit Police Department on Friday," attorney Todd Perkins said. "They were brought down and told that the remains, human remains, did belong to Deborah Reynolds. It is a very tough time for the family."

The news is significant because the last person Reynolds was seen with was suspected serial killer Deangelo Martin.

Prosecutor Kym Worthy, in a news release, reaffirmed her faith in the current cases.

“The details will be presented in court, and we will continue to pursue any and all evidence that may connect him to further crimes,” she said.

Martin remains held without bond. He’s due back in court in the murder cases on Aug. 20.
