Shortly after news of the young man's death became a national story, a search tagged #RIPDReed began trending on Twitter. A day later, there was even an original song posted on the website, SoundCloud.com, in memoriam of Reed titled, "Brother Reed (Fallen Angel)" by user AJ Walker (@_AJWALK).

Reed himself was evidently active on Twitter as well using the account handle of @D_Reed2. His last Tweet came on Tuesday: "Blessed ta see another 24 please help me to make good decisions my lord."

Reed posted photos of himself, family and friends on the Twitter account, and posted videos from his current season with the EMU Eagles:

Two EMU students reported being assaulted, and one robbed, by a group of between four and six men in a gray or silver van. One assault took place about 2:20 a.m. Saturday and the second incident took place almost exactly 24 hours later. The incidents sent the two EMU students to the hospital, where they were treated for their injuries.

Ypsilanti police continue to investigate those incidents and are looking for possible connections.

I hate to say or think ill words about the deceased - but scrolling thru his facebook allows you to see that his family has suffered several deaths in the last few years - one of his grandmother, which Im assuming we can relate to old age - but then there are several posts in regards to losing a brother, and a cousin - and another cousin being "locked up" MOO of course

someone said in an interview that he changed his life around, suggesting that he was not a good influence at first,
but became a leader later.m

I am not sure if robbery was the main motive. There may be some connection to the party.

The families of Julia and Dmarius were both present at the "Stop the Violence" event. An ironic twist---Julia's mom recently met Demarius:

Kim [Julia Niswinder's mother] said in a chance encounter, she met Demarius at a Meijer where she now works about two weeks ago.

"A 20-minute conversation turned into an hour conversation because he recognized my Justice for Julia bracelet," Kim said. "He asked me how I knew Julia and I said that was my daughter. ... He was comforting me. He left such an impression on me."

EMU football player's slaying haunts family

Serena Maria Daniels /The Detroit News

When Carl Reed sent his son to Ypsilanti three years ago, he thought he was putting the young wide receiver into the hands of what was quickly becoming an extended football family at Eastern Michigan University.

Demarius Reed already knew some of his Eagles teammates, and he would be able to play as a freshman. He also would be only a few hours’ drive away from his hometown of Chicago.

But signs of dysfunction in his son’s football family became apparent over the seasons, the father said. Demarius Reed sat out part of his sophomore year after he and then-head coach Ron English butted heads after the wide receiver questioned English’s decisions to change game plans.

“Nonetheless, he still tried to see it through, to finish what he started,” Carl Reed said.

But his son would never get that chance. Reed, 20 and a junior, was gunned down about 7:15 a.m. Oct. 18 in the University Green Apartments on the 700 block of West Clark Road in what appeared to be a robbery. He was left to die in the hallway of the off-campus apartment building. No arrests have been made in the case...
