Missing man in Marquette County - ABC 10/CW 5

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a missing snowmobiler.

Authorities say 54-year-old Dennis Frederick Pellinen of Ishpeming went for a ride Sunday night and never returned home. Pellinen also failed to show up for work Monday.

Pellinen left his secondary residence on County Road 444 in McFarland around 6:00 p.m. He was driving a 2003 SRX Yamaha snowmobile, blue and gray in color.

He was wearing a black Carhartt jacket. It’s believed he was not wearing a helmet when he left on the snowmobile.

Delta County search and rescue is also participating in the search.

A Michigan State Police helicopter was requested, but due to the bad weather in the lower peninsula it was unable to make the trip to assist the search Tuesday. Marquette County Sheriff’s Office requested the helicopter for the search efforts today, but it is dependent on the weather if it will be able to make the trip.

To anyone that knows, is it common for someone to go out on the trails in their snowmobile all alone? It seems it would be safer to go with others, unless you have no one else. An accident while alone could lead to death quickly. I hope he’s just lost and managing to keep himself safe until found. jmo

I was so afraid this would be the news, riding alone, no helmet. In this cold, even a minor accident could have proven deadly. Rest in Peace Dennis.

Oh, no! I had hopes they’d find him alive. This is so very sad.
