Hopefully I did this correctly. First time starting a thread.

Investigators allege Destiny Bingaman, 23, and George Bingaman, 32, abused and caused the death of their toddler, Emma Rose Bingaman. The couple was charged Thursday, Aug. 2, with felony murder, first-degree child abuse, torture and two counts of first-degree child abuse committed in the presence of another child.

The parents face up to life in prison and are being held in the Genesee County Jail without bail after being arraigned Thursday in Genesee District Court.

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said the girl was underdeveloped and undernourished. The girl had "scores" of gouges, pinch marks, bite marks and bruises all over her body, he said...

The girl also appeared to have fingernail impressions all over her body - some of which had broken the skin and already scabbed over. She also had multiple bruises on her body and possible bite marks on her as well, according to the juvenile court file.

Investigators said Emma also appeared to have a broken left femur because her leg was purple, red and swollen.

The girl was taken to Hurley Medical Center at 10:19 a.m. on Monday, July 30, from injuries consistent with child abuse and neglect, according to court records.

A Hurley doctor told CPS that it was "one of the worst cases she has seen," court records show.

Emma was estimated by a Hurley doctor to weigh less than 10 pounds and that her parents did not have an explanation for how the child got the injuries, according to the filing by CPS.

Toddler's alleged abuse 'one of the worst cases' doctor ever saw

Emma Rose Bingaman hadn't seen a doctor in almost two years despite being born with medical issues.

The girl, who was born at 27 weeks, had developmental delays and suffered from seizures, officials said.

She died just two months short of her third birthday after investigators say she was the victim of extensive physical abuse committed by her parents, Destiny and George Bingaman.

Now, investigators are trying to determine if there are other people who knew about what investigators and doctors have called one of the worst cases of abuse they have ever seen.

"What we're going to have to do is investigate. It's going to take a few days," said Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton. "There is potential criminal liability."

Leyton refused to go into further detail

Mt. Morris Township police Chief Terence Green said his department had no contact with the Bingamans until Destiny called 911 to their home on the 4000 block of North Elms Road to report her daughter had stopped breathing.

The family had lived at that address for about a year and previously lived in Montrose Township, Green said.

Whenever Emma would visit with extended family, investigators said, she would be dressed in long clothes that would cover dozens of bruises, bite marks, gouges and other evidence of the alleged abuse.

"We don't believe they knew about it besides the husband," Green said. "We think they may have had suspicions, but nothing they could come in and make a complaint saying they believe Emma Rose was being abused."

But police said they're still investigating and interviewing other family members.

"If the baby's legs, arms and torso was always covered, they wouldn't be able to view those bruises," Green said. "This mom was a stay at home mom, so she didn't require a babysitter or childcare."

However, concerns that others knew about the alleged abuse were raised by Genesee County Child Protective Services, which filed a petition July 30 after Emma's death in Genesee Family Court to terminate the parental rights to the couple's two other children.

In the court filing, CPS claims it communicated with two relatives who admitted knowledge of the abuse and refused to act on the allegations.

Well, I had decided not to look or dwell on crime involving children anymore. It's just too heartbreaking! But, here I am again, this morning reading another, "How Low Can They Go" story. Now Heaven's Little Spirits, they can never be hurt again. But, I get so frustrated that the parents/guardians/murderers never receive a just punishment for the atrocities they put these precious little ones through. It's also sad to know that they will probably have more little ones to abuse in the future. JMO, MOO

God bless these police officers who answer these calls. My nephew, police officer, said you never, ever get over it. He, himself, received some counseling to help deal with some of the crimes he sees perpetrated against and involving children. Whatever they are paid, it's not enough, IMO.

Makes me ill to read about it, I can't imagine what it's like to witness it (and manage to keep your hands and opinions to yourself when dealing with child abuse).

It is sick on so many levels. They knew she had health issues with the seizures and development delays and yet for nearly 2 years she hadn't seen a doctor. I believe that was in part so the abuse wasn't discovered. I just don't get how someone can hurt a child...especially your own child. I know we see case after case and each one breaks my heart!

I get being tired and exhausted. My son had major issues with croup until he was 9. Multiple ER visits due to breathing issues, no sleep, treatments, meds, the hardship of seeing your child suffer and can do nothing to help. I was doing it pretty much alone since his dad was an OTR truck driver. I was also working. Yes, there were a few times I can remember being so frustrated I debated taking time away but never once did I think of harming him.

I just can't understand the disconnect. I get some are psychopaths and sociopaths but not all can be explained by that. So many of these cases are sadistic abuse. I wish we could prevent all these cases. Too many children are being hurt and murdered by people who are supposed to love and protect them.

The almost 3 year old was, according to the article, about 10 pounds. The first picture on the Facebook page shows her to be about the same size as the 1 year old little boy.
