they always make Dearborn out to be the bad guy.

I've lived within 15 miles of Dearborn for most of my life, and it's never been an issue.

''The conflicting accounts highlight ongoing debates regarding public communication by federal authorities and the potential impact of such statements on public trust in law enforcement. Patel has faced widespread criticism previously for his handling of FBI investigation updates, particularly after prematurely announcing and later retracting key details on social media following the assassination of Charlie Kirk, raising concerns about accuracy, professionalism, and the politicization of the Bureau’s communications.

The Michigan incident follows a series of high-profile threats and acts of political violence that have shaped recent discourse on security and civil rights across the U.S.''

Federal authorities say a group of young men in the Detroit area may have been plotting a terror attack over Halloween weekend, but a defense attorney representing one detainee suggests the feds may be exaggerating. “There hasn’t been a terrorist plot. There is no imminent plan. There was no imminent plan,” Amir Makled told NewsNation on Saturday.

If this were a bunch of white young men in say, Bloomfield Hills, or Royal Oak, instead of brown young men with "foreign" names in Dearborn, would the FBI would have been breaking down doors? It sounds like they were trash talking on video games and happened to go out to the range. All perfectly legal activities.

Two Dearborn men arrested during raids by members of an FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force remained in custody as federal prosecutors faced a deadline Monday to file criminal charges or release them, The Detroit News has learned.

Lawyers for the men confirmed their clients were still being held behind bars but it remained unclear whether prosecutors would file charges Monday, three days after FBI agents raided two homes in Dearborn and an Inkster storage facility and arrested five people ages 16-20.

Thank God they were able to stop them.
Absolutely, good job men and women of FBI and Director Patel.
A group of radicalized 16-20 year olds with AK-47s trying to decide what their target would be are now off the streets. If they had left them alone until they decided on a target, well, just saying . . .

Good work.

Is it usual for it to be the FBI Director that announces this? Genuine question - I am not in the US.

I have my doubts about this case. We will see soon enough I guess.

''The alleged plot involved firearms and could be tied to a foreign terrorist organization, law enforcement sources said.''

''The suspects had engaged in firearms training, and law enforcement decided to take action after the suspects mentioned "pumpkin day," which investigators believe was a reference to Halloween, sources said.
The suspects' ages range from 16 to 20, according to sources. At least two people have been arrested and three have been taken in for questioning.
White House Senior Director for Counterterrorism Seb Gorka said authorities stopped a "Jihadi terror plot in Detroit."
I'm not seeing any reports that weapons were confiscated. It's legal to undergo firearms training. What am I not understanding here?

The participants discussed whether to carry out an ISIS-inspired plot in the US – “though what that plot was, when that plot would be, what the target would be, was unclear as they discussed various options in terms of timing,” Miller said.

But this week, a group of those being monitored went to a shooting range with AK-47s, “fired a large number of rounds of ammunition, practiced tactical high-speed reloads” and apparently made a reference to “‘pumpkin day’ – a possible reference to Halloween,” the FBI jumped into action, Miller said.

Two Dearborn men and a group of alleged co-conspirators hatched a plan to commit a terrorist attack in support of the Islamic State, according to a federal criminal case filed Monday that described reconnaissance, firearms and fears the group was targeting an LGBTQ+ nightclub in Ferndale.

The case against Dearborn residents Mohmed Ali and Majed Mahmoud was filed three days after high-profile raids by members of an FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force in Dearborn and Inkster and comments from FBI Director Kash Patel that investigators had thwarted a violent plot tied to international terrorism that was planned over the Halloween weekend.

The criminal complaint describes a group of five co-conspirators, including a juvenile, training with and stockpiling weapons and scouting potential attack locations in downtown Ferndale. The popular downtown is filled with restaurants, bars, clubs and shops and is known as a haven for members of the LGBTQ+ community.

"Based on my investigation in this case, this information is consistent with (the juvenile), Ali and Mahmoud scouting possible LGBTQ+-friendly attack locations in Ferndale," FBI Special Agent Nicholas Czech wrote in the complaint...

Two suspects are facing federal charges Monday of planning a terror attack over Halloween weekend in Michigan after federal investigators say they found over 1,600 rounds of ammunition, multiple firearms, and tactical vests in raids on their homes and a storage unit.

FBI Director Kash Patel announced in a post on X last week that five people had been arrested, but only two were charged in a 73-page criminal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.

Mohmed Ali and Majed Mahmoud are charged with receiving and transferring, and attempting and conspiring to transfer, firearms and ammunition, knowing and having reasonable cause to believe that the firearms and ammunition would be used to commit a federal crime of terrorism...

No doubt about it, and the community of Ferndale, Michigan was likely the target - their bars, clubs or restaurants. Particularly LGBQT+ friendly venues based on what the terrorist group discussed as they scouted locations for their planned massacre on Halloween/pumpkin day.

Much ado about nothing
If an attack had occurred, people would be asking why did the FBI sit on all that information. I’m tired of the wait and see approach. It’s time to be proactive and I’m glad they were arrested.

thank you, this is very helpful. Answer a lot of my questions. I am glad these young men were stopped before they could act.
