Police dispatchers report the hostages are both safe and mass murder suspect Rodrick Dantzler has shot himself.

An officer at the scene confirms the hostages are free and the suspect shot himself. Can't confirm injuries.

There is activity around an Ambulance... I wouldn't say he's dead. Just shot himself.

Suspect shot himself. Not clear yet whether he is alive or not.

Now that I'm not worried for these hostages, I can mourn the loss of all of the people that he murdered tonight, including two innocent children.

Chief:

Both hostages removed safely from the home.

Suspect went back and forth between threatening and suicidal and giving himself up... while instructing him on how to give himself up, he shot himself in the head.

The suspect is dead at the scene.

When the first hostage was released she informed police that the 3rd hostage was visiting... and hiding in the home. As time went on her location became known to the suspect.

Can't sleep because I'm worried about friends of mine who have traveled to Michigan. Can anyone tell me if the names of the victims have been released, or even if Grand Rapids is anywhere near Traverse City or Lake City???
I'm particularly worried because one article I read mentioned a 10-year-old girl was killed...

Thanks, my friend is from Traverse City. I know they went to Lake City and to visit her family, don't know where else. They were due back in Calif. yesterday I believe. I'd be devastated if I had to tell my 10-year-old that her best friend was killed...

(CBS/WWMT/AP) GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Police have released the names of the seven victims in the shooting spree that began Thursday afternoon in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Among them are two ex-girlfriends and the daughter of shooter Rodrick Shonte Dantzler. Dantzler killed himself following a high speed chase and hostage situation after the rampage.
After a 911 call, officers found three victims at a home on Plainfield Avenue. Those victims have been identified as: Amanda Emkens, 27; Marisa Emkens, 11; and Kimberlee Emkens, who was Dantzler's ex-girlfriend.
An hour later, police discovered the other four victims across town in a ranch-style house on a cul-de-sac called Brynell Court. Those victims have been identified as: Jennifer Heeren, Dantzler's ex-girlfriend; Kamrie Dantzler, Dantzler's own 12-year-old daughter; and Thomas and Rebecca Heeren, Jennifer's mother and father.
