Oakland County sheriff: Double homicide suspect considered armed, dangerous

Taverner has three weapons registered to her – two 9 mm and one .38 caliber handgun, police said. One of the weapons was purchased in the past week.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office is searching for a woman who they say shot and killed her boyfriend and her brother in Independence Township.

"Police say Ruby was former known as Martin Taverner, and allegedly shot and killed her boyfriend, 26-year-old Ray Muscat, who was formerly known as Amber Muscat, and Ruby's brother, 25-year-old Bishop Taverner, of Oxford.

“Our Fugitive Apprehension Team, other Detectives and assets are actively looking for this homicide suspect who we believe is armed and dangerous,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard said. “Please contact 911 if you see her or know of her whereabouts."

How horrible. What could the motive be? Not much info to go on. Looks like one of the victims Ray was into cosplay judging from his Facebook page. Sadly, whenever I see cosplay these days I think "red flag" because it reminds me of the Liz Barraza case. :-(

Yes, sorry, I debated whether or not to mention that thread because most of the comments are just deplorable. But the comment I pointed out was interesting and could shed light on why both were targeted.

I have the feeling Ruby might commit suicide before allowing herself to get arrested. It seems the crime was in the heat of the moment and she made no effort to cover it up. She must know she'll be caught and probably spend the rest of her life in prison unless she has a legitimate insanity defense. Has she already killed herself? She left with no cell phone and left her vehicle according to the articles, but armed. I wonder how far she could get on foot and what kind of area the apartment building was in? In town, outside of town, close to freeways or main roads?

Real close to a highway and also a body of water...

Could she have stood in the water and shot herself? Seems weird they haven't found her yet. Either she's already dead and hidden - maybe submerged in water - or someone is harboring her.

Per NY Post, Ruby was a triplet. Her brother Bishop, whom she killed with one bullet to the head, was Ruby's triplet brother.

"The sheriff said a preliminary investigation into the double homicide has determined that the men’s killings were premeditated, although no motive has been found yet.

“You don’t typically find someone shot in the head one time unless they just kind of coolly and calmly walked up and did it,” Bouchard said.

"According to the sheriff, it is believed that Taverner suffered from some unspecified mental health problems."

Ruby's obituary sounds forgiving.

"Ruby Aubrey Taverner; age 22; passed away May 8, 2022. Ruby is survived by her loving parents Karen (Michael) *** and Peter (Loree) ***; her beloved triplet ***; her step siblings...Ruby is preceded in death by her significant other Raymond; brother Bishop and grandparents... Ruby will be greatly missed but she has found her peace finally."

Ruby's murdered triplet Bishop sounded like a very talented and smart young man, who had just graduated from U of Michigan with a BS in aerospace engineering. His obit is here.
