Any locals know how many gas stations are in Norton Shores
or have a way to verify if this is the same one?

CUSTOMER SERVICE/ CASHIER PART TIME (NORTON SHORES)
AREA GAS/CONV STORE LOOKING FOR AN EVENING AND WEEKEND PERSON

This was also posted on the facebook, in recent posts by others... by a girl named AB about 1 hour ago.

Don't know about you... but that kinda creeps me out.
If it is the same gas station... that was posted less than 24 hours after she disappeared.
If it's true that the owner fits the description... that's just even weirder.

I wonder how long the employee witness had been working there.
Would they have recognized the person with the van if they worked with them?

That is a bit unsettling. There are several gas stations located in Norton Shores. Norton Shores is actually very large in terms of geography. There are 4 within a mile and a half radius alone I believe. I am going to search local job boards to see if I can determine which station actually posted that job. Great find.

Brainstorming who could the perp be:

Trucker
Random customer
Regular customer
Sex offender registered or unregistered
Partner
Family
Work colleague

I won't sleuth a boyfriend or family per websleuths rules.

Are there any local bars? Factories where a worker could have ended their shift nearby?

MisterG mentioned an industrial area closeby, near a field where he saw a K9 searching today:

Even if the job posting is in fact for that specific Exxon, while it looks suspicious, in all fairness (a poi has not been named), the store still needs to conduct business and may need help covering Jessica's shifts.

just sayin...are there possible flags? sure...

I've searched a few different job boards and there are no jobs posted that match the same description. Perhaps the job wasn't posted on the other boards yet because it was the weekend. I think it's odd that any gas station would post a job on Craigslist. I made a copy of the posting just in case they take it down and someone wants to view it later.

Absolutely unsettling IF it's the same gas station.

People on facebook appear to be saying it IS the same station.
The timing would certainly be a HUGE coincidence if it wasn't connected.

After seeing this video... I am just :thud:

http://www.woodtv.com/dpp/news/local/muskegon_county/missing-woman-case-officially-abduction

Police actually asked him to install cameras...
in September 2011 after a car accident occurred right there.

However, Jessica's boss also bought her son a bike. So her relationship with him was good.

I just don't understand why you wouldn't have other employees cover the shifts for Jessica.
Or even cover them yourself... at least for a few days until you have a better idea of what happened.

This guy seems 100% business however, so it makes a bit more sense after seeing the video of him.

here it is:
Katie Poirier's murder

he was transfered to a min security prison/camp/medical center but I think they moved him back to max sec.

"On 26 May 1999, 19-year old Katie Poirier went missing from the D. J.'s Expressway Conoco convenience store in Moose Lake, Minnesota, where she used to work as a night clerk. A passer-by, who noticed that there was no attendant present in the store, reported the odd incident. A grainy black-and-white surveillance video showed Katie being forced out of the store around 11:40 pm, by a man wearing jeans, a backwards baseball cap and a New York Yankees baseball jersey with the number 23 on the back. The man's hand was at the back of her neck, and from the way she touched her throat, there might have been a cord tied around her neck.[4]

The police estimated that the abductor was 5'10" and weighed around 170. He had long light-colored hair, and appeared to be around 25 years old. The witnesses reported that they had seen a black pick-up truck near the convenience store that evening. One of the witnesses gave a partial license plate number (three numbers and a letter).[4]

A composite sketch of the abductor, based on statements of four witnesses, was broadcasted on the local media.
Blom's arrest

Donald Blom was checked soon after Katie's disappearance, since he had a pickup truck registered to his name, with a license plate number matching the partial number provided by the witness. But this vehicle was white-colored.[4]

Blom had been working at the Minnesota Veteran's Home under the name "Donald Hutchinson" prior to Katie's death. On June 18, his former co-worker Darrel Brown, called the police tip line. He stated that Donald Hutchison looked similar to the man in the composite sketch provided by the police. He had been absent on the day following Katie's disappearance. He had recently cut his hair, and had stopped driving his black pick-up truck. Shortly after that, he had suddenly quit his job as the janitor without any notice.[4]

sorry, this is OT but I swear he came into my work once. Before he was arrested, I was 18 years old and working retail. A guy came in and the second he walked into the store I couldn't get him out of the store fast enough. I was shaking and dropping stuff and had trouble ringing up his purchase. He just looked at me calmly and said "You nervous?" I can't remember what I said but I just remember ringing him up and being so relieved when he left. I worked near where he worked. When I saw him on the news I couldn't believe it. I don't know what it was about that guy but the second he walked into my store I couldn't get him out of there fast enough. Still creeps me out.

I guess before working at the VA, he also worked at the same place my grandma worked. It was a nursing home...ugh...he's creepy

This is from the reporter who did such a good job tweeting today's press conference at noon.

Here's what we know about the Norton Shores gas station abduction. Jessica Heeringa is still missing. http://www.woodtv.com/dpp/news/local/muskegon_county/missing-woman-case-officially-abduction …

from link ==> Norton Shores Police Chief Daniel Shaw said Heeringa helped a customer at 10:50 p.m. and a call to 911 reporting the empty gas station was made at 11:15 p.m. In that 25 minutes, Shaw said, "something very bad happened."

Grandfather of missing Jessica Heeringa as concern grows: 'It's been too long' http://bit.ly/ZKE5ii

But as of early this morning, the family heard nothing new regarding her whereabouts.

“We haven’t heard anything, nothing since last night. We were at the police station. But nothing has changed since then,” Homrich said.

“We are very concerned. It’s been too long.”

Norton Shores Police Chief Dan Shaw is urging the public for more information this morning.

“We need tips,” he said in an email to MLive and The Muskegon Chronicle.

“If someone saw or heard anything, they need to call us, even if they have read or heard the same information in the media. They may have that one shred of information that will help us find Jessica.”

The family is anxiously waiting for good news as her grandmother sat in front of the computer this morning, he said, searching for information about their missing granddaughter.

If I were LE, I would look at any current or former employees that fit the description. I would also interview current employees and her family members to see if a customer had inquired as to the presence of cameras recently. Whoever did this knew that she was closing, what time her shift ended, knew what her end of day activities were, knew that she would be alone and also knew that there wouldn't be any cameras.

The officer in the video posted by margarita mentions a prior incident at the store. LE asked at the time if there were any cameras to help with the case and were told there were not. His statement was in response to the reporter who asked if they had spoken to the owner before about security cameras.

So, that means that others were aware as well (probably the suspect/perp in the other case, other co-workers, etc.).
