and according to this article this is the witness that helped with the sketch, it doesn't say husband and wife though. The first witness if I'm understanding everything is the guy that only heard part of a conversation between a man in a silver van but didn't see his face a couple hours earlier.

A second witness spotted the minivan going through the parking lot of the strip mall next door, Norton Shores Police Chief Dan Shaw said. Shaw said police believe Heeringa was already in the minivan at that time.
"The van left and drove down this alleyway or roadway (in the strip mall)," Shaw said. "And as the van went by, she was able to see the driver's face."

That witness aided in the creation of the sketch of the possible suspect that was released Tuesday.

I don't believe I ever heard LE refer to the husband at all. I personally only heard of him from her during the interview. She didn't come forward until the next day, but I thought she was interviewed before guitar store guy. Maybe not. I don't know the significance of calling them 1st witness and 2nd witness. Not sure what that means.

Such a frustrating case. I just knew that with the van, perp description, evidence, small window of reporting, and relatively small locale, that this cat would be in custody or at the very least identified by now.

This may have already been addressed but I googled 'hunting attire'. Dick's Sporting Goods came up so, out of curiosity, I took a look. Most of the clothing featured is camo type - khaki, brown, black. When you scroll down the page of shirts and hoodies, there's a smattering of orange and red shirts. Some of the subdued shirts have writing in orange. So, orange is a common accent color. It's possible when/if he took off a camo jacket he had an orange sweatshirt or t-shirt underneath. The color orange does seem affiliated with hunting to some degree. I don't see any purple!

Also, a bright orange vest popped up from Acedemy Sports (didn't click) that's called 'game winner men's game vest'.

Have I missed any threads analyzing the suspect's hairdo? In what years was this cut popular? I wonder if he sported the same 'do in high school and has never changed it because those were his glory days...he's not old enough to have worn his hair like that in the 70's, but wasn't that look popular again in the later 90's? I wonder if sleuthing yearbooks from the area from then would be helpful.

My feeling is that if he's local, he's from a west Michigan coast town - Muskegon, Grand Haven, Holland. The sketch looks like a man of Dutch ancestry. (I know that sounds horribly racist, but I'm Dutch too) Brown/blonde hair and very close-set eyes - his face looks like a thousand people around here. I think if he were inland, that hair would be more noticeable, more out of place.

This is totally just my opinion and a wild guess.

Hmmm.. when I was in high school they had the Ben Affleck haircut. long on top shaved on the sides. kind of a typical 90's high school boy haircut is what I look like. You may be and something there

This sounds like it was clipped from the interview I saw her give within a day or 2 of the kidnapping. She said her husband was with her, I think his name was Eric. That interview seems to have vaporized. I never saw her on FB, although she may have been on there at some point.
It has been my understanding that there are 3 contributing witnesses. The coworker and husband who saw the van and the poi from the guitar store parking lot, and the guitar store employee who saw the van but only heard the poi while he was in the exxon parking lot. It is making me crazy that there seems to be no evidence of this now. But this is the reason I drove over and took pics...I couldn't imagine being able to id the poi from that far away. I realized he could have driven past them on the way out to Grand Haven Rd tho, and they could have gotten a look at his face under the parking lot lights.

I am from here so shouldn't say this, but there are lots of people who resist change around here when it comes to fashion. Lots of women still sporting rooster bangs and spiral perms. I still see mullets. I would not be surprised if our POI was also wearing a wallet chain.

I read those comments when they were originally posted to fb. If I remember correctly, I saw it after searching JH and clicking "Public Posts." They were posted to a person's fb as a comment after the person (can't remember his name) wrote about JH being missing. I don't think an official fb page had been set up for her yet.

That was my generation in the 90s (IDK If I should be owning up to this) but they sported the "bowl" haircut that looked like the sketch when grown out a little. If it gives you a base age range I'm 29. So I'd say 27-29 years old to narrow it down. Only because the younger generation wanted to be so much older.

In the last thread I too ran across this issue of calling them 1st witness and 2nd witness. I think that the "timing" is how they were referred to by LE Shaw. He called the man, Christian who "heard the man in the vans voice" the 1st witness and the woman who was a co-worker the 2nd witness.

If he graduated in 1990 he would be 40ish depending on if he was held back ever. When I think of that haircut I think early 90's. By 94 around here, (my town) everyone was into tie dyes and long hair.

LE needs some tips. This case is going cold. I think they are no closer to solving than on day one.

Starting to think the sketch is off like others have suggested or the perp is from out of state and not enough people have seen the sketch.

If a local perp, there has been so much coverage in MI someone has to have a strong clue to who did this. They need to call in the tip.

This case is far from growing cold. Crimes are only solved in an hour on tv. An article just today stated that new leads are still coming in. Now these may be nothing leads, or may be the very leads needed to solve this case. We don't know which, and LE is under no obligation to report to us every lead they may be chasing down (although many of us wish they would). I am almost of the persuasion that LE may have a pretty good idea of what happened and who is responsible, and have probably already interviewed that person or those persons, but you can't put people away without evidence. I still feel, as some others here have voiced, that this case is very solvable, and will be solved. Nothing to base that on but a gut feeling. I do not believe this was just a random crime. JMO

Well if this is still true, I doubt LE has a suspect in mind.

You may be right, but on the other hand, if the FBI offered to do one, or if NSPD had asked for one earlier, I can't imagine them now saying "no thanks, we're good". Even if they have a good idea of a possible suspect or POI, I would think they would still welcome input from federally trained LE.
