When I'm following a case and get frustrated by the lack of information that is made public, I pinch and remind myself that LE has no obligation to release details of an ongoing investigation. They are also not required to tell the truth about what they know or don't know about the case. Just because NSPD recently re-released the sketch and van description doesn't necessarily mean that they believe that the silver minivan and the individual in the sketch are paramount to solving Jessica's disappearance.

I interpreted the recent reminder about the van and the sketch as an indication to the public that, "Hey, folks, this is what we have to work with. The silver minivan and the sketch of a possible person of interest haven't panned out, so we're asking the good citizens of Norton Shores and surrounding communities to come forward with any information that they might have regarding Jessica's disappearance."

I think that NSPD has a very good idea what happened to Jessica and who is responsible. They simply don't have enough evidence to prosecute and will not arrest anyone until the i s are dotted and the ts crossed. This does not in any way suggest to me that they are incompetent and/or haven't conducted a thorough investigation. :moo:

I couldn't agree more.

BBM. Yards are most often private property. LE can't just take a backhoe and start digging without a court order, which they can't get without probable cause. Just because they may THINK someone is involved is not probable cause. Again, we get back to evidence. They must have something besides a gut feeling or the general opinion of the public to get a court order. JMO

Exactly.

imo It has been known for many years that some people are affected by the lunar cycle and do bad things like abductions on the full moon. These people have been called lunatics . They repeat their crimes. It may be that the crimes that are surfacing in Michigan AFTER ONE YEAR are people who are on a yearly cycle. These people will continue to repeat these crimes until LE or someone else stops them.

As we have now passed the one year mark since the disappearance of Jessica, it is only natural that many people have become frustrated with the perceived lack of progress in locating her and/or bringing the person/persons responsible for her likely demise to justice. I, like probably every else here, feel that frustration too. Many of us have been here since day 1 of the first thread, myself included, and we have seen what initially seemed like a quick case resolution drag on, seemingly growing cold more times that one. While rumor tends to run rampant in such cases, official information often grinds to a halt. That does not mean that LE has stopped working the case. It is often quite the contrary. And while a year seems like forever to those who know and love Jessica, one has to look no further than the very many threads here at WS to see that very few cases are neatly tied up in short order. Brittanee Drexel disappeared from Ocean Blvd in Myrtle Beach, SC at 9pm on an April evening in 2009, during a time when many kids were on spring break. Anyone who has ever visited Myrtle Beach in season would probably wonder how such a thing could happen at that hour, but it did, and five years later, she has not been found, nor has there been any arrest in her case. Lauren Spierer disappeared from Bloomington, In in the early morning hours of June 3, 2011, and while everyone and their brother has a theory as to whodunit, there have been no arrests and she has not been found as of today. Sierra LaMar disappeared while on her way to a school bus stop on the morning of March, 16, 2012, and while an arrest was eventually made in that case, thanks in no-small-part to video, she has still not been located. Kelli Bordeaux left a Fayetteville, NC bar shortly after midnight on April 14, 2012, and has never been seen again. While LE has long had a POI, no arrest has been made in her case, and she has still not been found, despite many ground searches. These are but a few of far too many such cases. Are all of these LE agencies inept, because these cases have not been solved? Of course not, and neither is NSPD. My brother spent 30 years in LE and I have known many cops. I can almost guarantee you that in each of these above cases, there are investigators who go to sleep every night, thinking of these missing ones. Many of us have the luxury of being able to leave our jobs at 5pm and not giving them another thought til 9am the next day. Cops don't. It is part of who they are. I have full confidence that those responsible for Jessica's disappearance will eventually be caught and held accountable, and I have full confidence that LE will not stop investigating until that time. JMO, and OMY.

ETA and arrests are finally just now being made in Holly Bobo's case, which received national attention, and she disappeared in April, 2011, and her remains still have not been found.

This story out of Texas is quite common. I also live in the South and my first experience with screams in the night was terrifying. I went running outside with a flashlight and a cell phone, ready to take action.... and ended the evening laughing like hell.

OT: Yea but do animals scream specifically "help me" ? I mean that's something I havent heard of. Everyone's discrediting this as some type of animal..but I get a different, ominous feeling..JMO (maybe it's because I work here??) lol

Forgive the OT, but respectfully, the belief that moon phases affect behavior has been thoroughly debunked as superstition. E.g.,

http://www.psychologytoday.com/articles/200502/full-moon-crazy
http://imagine.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/ask_astro/answers/970103b.html
http://abcnews.go.com/TheLaw/story?id=3426758&page=1

So it is not a useful basis for theories about any crime.

Does anyone here know if there are any uncompressed versions of the footage released of the van in Jessica's case? I guess the versions on youtube for example are compressed to save bandwidth. I spoke with someone who said they would try enhancing the images but they have explained to me that the compressed video would probably not be helpful. I know LE has probably tried this but I figured it can't hurt to try as you never know if someone else will see something with different technique

In following abductions and attempted abductions in the area I was surprised at the large number of them. I also was surprised by the firepower. In one attempted abduction 2 young men(in their teens) each had a pistol and a sawed off shotgun. Le caught one of the men and both sets of guns.

I want to believe, and feel certain that one of the first things LE did when they viewed and retrieved the video was to send it to be enhanced to whatever extent was possible. I know that early on, the task force included several local LE agencies, as well as the Michigan State Police, and the FBI at the very least was in the loop and had offered assistance. Surely either the MSP or the FBI would have had the resources readily available to do video enhancement. But your question made me think of something else. Several weeks, or maybe 2 or 3 months into this case, I remember reading that either the MSP, or the FBI (I believe it was the FBI) was putting together a criminal profile of the person who abducted Jessica, and it was still a few weeks from being finished. I remember because several of us shook our heads that it would take so long at that juncture. Anyway, I never heard another official word about such a profile. Does anyone else remember this and whether it was ever completed and if it was made public?

Here is a video from May of last year that mentions profiling and the video, (electronically enhanced images) as well.

Was thinking of Jessica and her son as well. This case just haunts me.

Thinking of Jessica today. Hoping that someone with useful information calls into the tip line and blows the lid off this. If you would have asked me a month ago; I would have told you that it was going to happen "any minute now"..(as most of you know). I know that LE has Most of the information they need. But probably not enough to prove, without any doubt, who the guilty parties are. I'm more concerned about Jessica and her whereabouts, at this time, than "who-done-it". She's been missing too long. Even though more than a day is "too long". My heart hurts for Jessica and her family. I pray that wherever she is; she's safe. Even though it's highly unlikely, I still want to have hope. I'm going to light a candle and say a prayer for her today. <3

If Jessica's law were extended to all businesses with 2 or more employees must have security cameras not only would Yolanda Reyes be found but other ladies entering the work force in Michigan would be safer as well.
