Meijer started the supercenter concept. They're based in Grand Rapids, MI and are in 5 states now and expanding. Much cleaner than a Walmart!

I am not aware of anything. I do know that her roommates were questioned until around 1-2am Wed morning.

Do your communities recognize LE as having "an eye" on one or more persons in respect to person of interests? (Please note I am aware Media has NOT identified a POI from LE... But I was wondering if LE looks like they are leaning towards a/some individuals?)

They're not saying ANYTHING. We(both as a student of EMU and as a friend of Julia's) don't know if this was a stranger murder that we should be watching out for a suspect, or someone she knew. Nothing.

do you see any of the twitter comments standing out as being concerning and relevant to the situation?

Honestly, other than to help build a timeline, I don't. I wish it did.. But I think that just comes from knowing Julia.... Their mother Kim raised them well, beginning as a single, teenage mother. They were never afraid to express themselves and speak their minds, as Kim does. It made them into who they are today.

I don't want to have the rumor mill going much more than it already is, yet I do feel that the more people have their eyes and ears open, the sooner justice for Julia can occur. I just want to put it to the forefront, having seen this happen over and over again, to make Julia appear not to be the victim. No matter what happened in her life, she didn't deserve to have it ended so soon. She truly was a good person with a heart of gold.

I can't even begin to thank everyone for all the kind words and condolences. Every message, post, mention, text, call, and voicemail are getting me through this. Even all of the people I've never met, nor Julia met, mean so much. Especially the messages from other sets of twins. I will use these messages to help me get through each and every day. I love you so much Julia!

I hope she recognizes that WS members are interested only in providing support for Julia and the people who love her... And that we want to see justice served for this unspeakable act!

I understand, I need to sleep as well - it's been something sorely lacking the past few days...

I believe that Jennifer would understand that there is no harm meant here... hence why I chose to post. I feel that greater understanding can be gained by sharing the information that I am aware of. I am going to try to go to one of the candlelight vigils tomorrow and will be going to the viewing this weekend.

Hi everyone, I'm new here as well. I was lead to this forum by the unfortunate news of Julia's death. I didn't know her, but I'm a young woman living in Ypsilanti, and Julia's story has really affected me over the last few days.

I initially joined to voice my opinion on the area in which Julia was living. Back around page two someone had asked, but it took a little while for my account to be granted access so I apologize if this isn't of interest anymore.

Ypsi doesn't have that great of a reputation, especially being overshadowed by the wonderful University of Michigan and affluent Ann Arbor area, but I've been living here for quite some time now and have to say that it isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Maybe I just live in an ok area (the opposite side of EMU's campus from Julia), but I find Ypsi to be trendy, up-and-coming with the places going in downtown and on Cross Street, unique, proud, and artsy. Yes, there are plenty of bad areas, but I completely disagree with the previous poster who said they feel more comfortable in Detroit than they do in Ypsi. Personally, I've spent many a night out in Ypsi and have never had more than a bothersome bum asking for money. I work extremely early in the morning so I am constantly out in the wee hours of the morning walking to my car without so much as my keys to defend me.

That aside, the area in which Peninsular Place is positioned is an area that has had a bad reputation since my mother (now in her 50s) worked at EMU right out of high school. Known as the LeForge area, or the other side of the tracks, investors have attempted to build and remodel places in order to change the area, but the crime seems to stay. Besides the couple places filled with college students, the rest is low income (for example, there are ~1300 sq ft 3-bedroom townhouses going for less than $850/mo).

Another little tidbit I have to offer is that a co-worker of mine has a son who is dating a girl living at Peninsular Place. The son and girlfriend are also EMU students. According to my co-worker, "they" (not sure who "they" are) are telling students that Julia possibly ingested some kind of vapor. Not sure how much water this holds, but it sounds like another likely theory seeing as there was no trauma to her body.

Thank you all for the information you have provided all of us... my heart goes out to Julia's family, friends, and the entire community affected by this.

Wow! That's brilliant stuff!

I can add to this bit - there were 35 Syracuse students on Pan-Am flight 103, which exploded over Lockerbie in 1988.

Not sure about the "67 like 68 Tet in Nam" but the Tet Offensive began in early 1968.

<snipped> I've always thought that you were somewhat local, IHNC :) I've shopped at Meijer for more than 40 years and, in fact, first went to a Meijer between Ann Arbor & Ypsi when I was in college. The Michigan-based chain was the original "hyper-market" and the forerunner in "one-stop shopping". Meijer was originally known as "Meijer Thrifty Acres",but just Meijer has been the official store name for at least 25 years now. Many of the stores have been upgraded in recent years to reflect a changing market, and newer stores are far more classy and carry better merchandise than the original stores.

One of the newest stores is about a mile from my home and is the prototype for all new Meijer stores with such amenities as a Sommelier in the wine department, gourmet bakery, deli and to-go foods, World Foods, enormous produce department that rivals any farmer's market, spacious aisles, bright lighting, etc. Other store departments include pharmacy, dry cleaning, banking, Starbucks cafe, home goods, clothing, toys, outdoor, etc.

I've never been to a Walmart and can't offer a comparison, but I love me some Meijer :D Target's nice for some items, too.

I am actually a SoCal gal... all my life..so I have not been to a Meijer's..... But in light of what I know now... It is kind of funny that I compared Meijer to Target and Walmart... When Meijer is actually the prototype of these one-stop-shop chains! :giggle:

I live for Target... We have a terrific one where I live...great prices... Great merchandise... And a Starbucks to boot! :coffeews:

But in my travels... I will certainly be looking for Meijer.... It sounds like with all its amenities...one could live in it comfortably for a long time! :D

BDE - since you mentioned that Meijer store, I believe you live near my boyfriend. It's amazing what a small world this is!

I'm glad spring peonies has had a different experience of Ypsi than I have. I remember it not being as bad as it is now ( I'm in my mid -30's). My experience is just that and it differs - not really good or bad.

Nothing really new yet today to report.
