I need a refresher course. Were Julia's keys missing? Perhaps they just took her keys when they left, locked her door with them, and now ....... where is key(s)?

If someone borrowed my car, they would get the car key, but not my house keys. That would mean pre-planning nefarious activities to go to all the trouble of borrowing her car, making a key; or sneaking ot out of a purse or locker and making a key, then returning it.

I have never heard that her keys were missing. I swap cars on a weekly basis with someone and we each have our car and house keys on the ring. I have borrowed someone else's car and borrowed out my car to others and in all situations house keys are on the rings. I am not taking it off everytime, especially for people I trust to borrow my car. I even leave them on when I valet my car, which I know I probably shouldn't do. In the Dateline episode, they didn't say he borrowed the car to get the house key, they think he saw an opportunity and took it. At least that is how I interpreted it.

Regardless, someone who is willing to kill someone, doesn't see it as going through all the trouble. The guy on dateline, borrowed the car, made a copy of the key, used it, walked in and stabbed the girl 42 times while she was sleeping. So, he didn't really see it as too much trouble. That is all I am saying. If he could do it and not blink an eye, someone could have easily done it here. Someone she worked with, a friend, a coworker, her stepdad, or someone else. A killer is not someone who thinks like the rest of us. They don't think logically.

I believe that police initially would not say if her keys are mssing. But from later remarks I deduce that the killer took her keys and locked the door.

But note that there most likely are 2 kind of keys. One keys opening the door to the apartment and one key to open the door to the bedroom (which is connected
to the bathroom). The killer might have gotten a key or a copy of a key to the front door, which he or she could have gotten in many possible ways from any
of the roommates. The roommates may trust each other enough not to lock their room doors generally.

This whole business reminds me of the Hitchcock Movie "Dial M for Murder". There the key to an apartment plays a pivotal role. The victim (Grace Kelly) is also being strangled
but the strangler is unsuccessful because Grace Kelly stabs him in the back. Unfortunately, Julia had no scissors nearby.

BDE... Having worked in the mental health field, and having had a couple relatives in psych wards, I know you are right. Thanks.

Roses and squirrel, thank you for explaining about your thoughts on the keys. Also, I wonder if there was a dead bolt on the outer door. Then three apartment keeps would be needed by a tenant. One outer door might lock from the inside, but a deadbolt would always need a key on the outside.

KT defends her husband, says the charges are ludicrous, and is convinced that Julia's stepfather had nothing to do with her death. Why, then, was JT not staying in the family home prior to his arrest? I read/heard in media reports that he had been staying with friend/s. :waitasec:

I have not heard this about staying with friends. Do you have a source?

...We also had no luck finding anyone at the home where Turnquist told the court he now stays with friends. Family members of the EMU student tell police they had their suspicions of Turnquist as well. That's just another reason police say he's now a person of interest for homicide...

No DP in Michigan, so no worries there It doesn't sound like Monroe Sheriff has enough evidence to insure a conviction on the charge. I don't see the case moving forward unless/until Ypsi PD files charges in Julia's homicide. :moo:

It is my understanding that there was no intention of naming JT as POI in Julia's death but apparently it was leaked in one of the early articles about the arrest and they felt they had to respond. All legal avenues have been quiet regarding the death investigation,

Wonder what was going on behind the scenes... were they hoping he would breakdown and confess... were they just so ticked off about his not co-operating way back....

Mental health professionals know which patients are likely to harm themselves and/or others. The staff at the psych facility felt threatened and were aware of JT's martial arts skills. They contacted the Sheriff's office to come to get this man who presented as a possible danger to himself and/or others.

A late family member was in and out of mental health facilities for much of her adult life. Visitation access is strict and limited - usually only a couple of days a week for an hour or two. Visitors must sign in and are not permitted to carry anything into the wards - no purses, clothing, food, gifts, phones, etc. Elevators are activated by key and have an attendant who escorts visitors to restricted visiting areas. Guests are never allowed in patient rooms. During visiting hours, armed guards patrol each floor. The unpredictable behaviors of mental health patients is not taken lightly, and patients who are particularly agitated or volatile are denied visiting privileges if they pose a danger to other patients or visitors.

It has been his choice, to go to press for over two years and his choice to not cooperate with LE about his timeline or the child questions that hung over him before Julia was killed.

The police who arrested JT for child are not the same department investigating the murder of Julia.
The two cases are completely separate.

Arrest for child was by the Monroe County Sheriffs.

The specific video of how he acted and what he did may be able to give insight on whether he was milking the situation or just so caught off guard 'the ship is going down' bleak and desperate that he ran, made a scene, for whatever reason, I guess.

Duh!!! I was thinking the "The Misfits" or something, totally off, sorry, fixated on the "bronco". The Nicole Brown Simpson case. Yes, like that.

So you think in Julia's case there could have been more than one person involved? Somebody who provided the key, help with her whereabouts, circumstances, maybe even motive?
