32-year-old man killed by rock thrown from overpass in Genesee County

A court hearing was held Monday for five Michigan teenagers charged with murder in connection to a deadly rock-throwing incident on I-75 in Genesee County.

Kyle Anger, 17; Mark Sekelsky, 16; Mikadyn Payne, 16; Trevor Gray, 15; and Alexander Miller, 15, are all from Clio, Mich. They were arraigned Oct. 24 on charges including second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit second-degree murder and six felony counts of malicious destruction of property.

On Monday, all defendants except Anger accepted plea deals. The second-degree murder charge was changed to manslaughter while all other charges were dropped.

Anger's attorney had a family emergency so he did not appear in court Monday. He is expected to accept the same plea deal at a later date...

A man died here and that makes me sad and angry. Yet, when I was young we did equally stupid things. There, but for the grace of God go I and many others. I'm glad they are being shown some mercy. I hope they learn from this and go on to do good for all humanity.

Sentence for teens charged in I-75 rock throwing case up for debate

In my state all overpasses and pedestrian walkways have fencing that prevents throwing things off. That should be mandatory. Cases like this just infuriate me. This is no different than randomly shooting a gun into a crowd. There is a 5 year old child that has no father now.

Just running across this thread. This exact thing happened to one of my coworkers year ago. She and her husband were on the way home from dinner when they drove under an underpass in my town of 30,000 people. It was horrifying. A random Tuesday night and no doubt they had traveled that route 100 x of not more. She survived but too my knowledge there were no arrests. It has always made me a little paranoid. A fence was built around that particular overpass but most remain open to this day. Sick sick “fun”.

Can they be rehabilitated? Or, will they make new friends & get new, more elaborate ideas? IMO, the latter.

What happened to the fifth teen who did not plead? There should be a trial right?
