ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Michigan State Police Wayland Post along with Allegan County Central County Dispatch asking help from the public in locating Logan Thayer Sweet, who was last seen in Sunday in Grand Rapids at a concert at the Listening Room.

From his wife: “My husband went to a concert in downtown Grand Rapids at the Listening Room on Sunday, July 24. He never returned home. He was riding his black 2022 Kawasaki Ninja 650. My husband was last seen pulling out of the Commerce Parking Garage going west on Weston at 10:08 p.m. on Sunday, July 24th. He could have traveled home to the Hamilton area on I-196 or US-131.”

Police and family described Sweet as a white male, approximately 6 feet tall, weighing 240 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes.

Sweet was last seen driving his 2022 Kawasaki 650 charcoal gray sport bike.

Any information on the whereabouts of Logan Sweet is asked to contact Trooper Jeff Olney with the Michigan State Police Wayland Post at 269-792-2213 or Allegan County Central Dispatch at 269-673-3899.

This is worrisome, missing for 2 days already. I hope that Logan is safe.

When searching google maps, Weston Street, which is where LS is indicated last seen, is actually to the north, the opposite direction LS should have traveled if indeed he was planning a direct route home.

Upon leaving Commerce Parking, the quickest, simplest route would have been to exit onto Cherry Street if possible, there's a direct on-ramp to US 131 South just one-block to the west. Even if he had to exit onto Commerce Ave., he should have gone south to Cherry Street and followed to the US 131 on-ramp.

I wonder how familiar LS was with Grand Rapids. Hamilton, his home, is about 38 miles SW of downtown Grand Rapids.

It looks like many people are out searching/volunteering to search his route back home, including asking local businesses for any camera footage, etc. Of course my mind goes to hope he didn't have a crash and is injured somewhere waiting for help.

I recently read an article about a fatal motorcycle crash in Orlando where someone actually stole the motorcycle from the accident scene and rode away with it, leaving the injured party there. Ugh.

I have been following this on FB. His wife is extremely worried. The search teams have been put together quickly. They are covering bases such as checking local video surveillance so that they can determine the direction of his travel.

I checked the weather for Grand Rapids on Sunday 7/24, there were thunderstorms earlier in the day and reports of brief rain around 10pm - the reported time LS would have been leaving the concert.
I don't ride motorcycles, but can imagine rain may have made the roads a bit slick if considering an accident as a possibility.

Slick roads are a possibility. Riding at that time of night, it's possible he might have had to swerve to avoid a deer and lost control. He might even have nodded off, and nodding off on a crotch rocket while doing 75 m.p.h. won't get you much of a discount on your life insurance policy.

Whatever the cause, it is extremely likely that he went off the road and hasn't been found yet. At this point, it seems doubtful that he could still be alive.

Of course, we don't know for certain that he headed home after the concert. Maybe he went somewhere and got strung out on drugs—but that seems really unlikely considering that he texted his wife right before leaving Grand Rapids.

Road closure? Construction? He might have wanted to stop at a late night cafe to get a bite to eat. The Hop Cat on Weston is normally open until 11 or midnight but closes at 10 on Sundays.

[...]

AG has known Sweet for the last ten years. Her friendship with his wife dates back to childhood. She said the two routinely talk, including leading up to the time he disappeared.

“He had advised her he was on his way home. And that was right about the last time his phone pinged, around 9:55 p.m.,” AG said.

AG said he was last seen heading south on Ottawa Avenue at around 10:15 p.m. He was driving a gray 2022 Kawasaki 650 sport bike. Sweet would’ve been home by around 11 p.m., but his wife didn’t see him pull in.

“She tried to put it in the back of her mind that, ‘It’s probably nothing, he may have stopped off.’ As morning came and he still wasn’t home, it was very concerning for her,” AG said.

[...]

She [EB-family friend] said Logan's wife was working Sunday night, so he went to the concert at the Listening Room alone. They had communicated at 9:55 p.m. to meet at home afterward. If he made it out of Grand Rapids, he would have been traveling home toward Hamilton on US-131. Byers said cameras at the Dorr exit near 142 Avenue do not show him at the time he would have been there.

This referenced article indicates he was last seen heading south on Ottawa Avenue - this would be the correct route coming from the north (and Weston Ave as previously reported) in order to get on US 131 South towards Hamilton. I wonder if this updated location was based on surveillance video?

Interesting that his last phone ping is 9:55pm. I would think that traveling on his motorcycle his phone would have continued to ping as it hit off different cell towers. Maybe his phone battery died? He turned off his phone once he started to leave Grand Rapids?

I also noticed his motorcycle is new a 2022 model. I wonder how experienced he was? Had he owned previous motorcycles? Was he used to riding this type of performance bike?

New information posted by an admin in the official FB group "Help find Logan Sweet" (wife is an admin) says that as of last night, LE shared that his phone last pinged off a T-mobile tower between "Dorr and Hamilton area". Apparently this ping was from Sunday night and it was the last one sent out by his phone before it died. Looks like this is about 25 minute drive from the Listening Room where he was in Grand Rapids, and from what I can tell looking at Google maps, it is at least in the general direction he would've taken from Grand Rapids to his home in Hamilton, MI.

Point B- Dorr Township
Point C- LS home area

Why would he have taken 131 to get to Hamilton? He should have taken Market Avenue to I-96. That would have been a much more direct route.

He would have had to make a hard left to get onto the freeway, and that turn would have been a difficult one to navigate going fast on a motor bike at night. That's the first place I would have looked for signs of a bike leaving the roadway.

This makes it sound like he did take 131, but I'm not sure why that route would have been preferable to I-96 unless he just didn't want to take his bike on such a busy expressway.

I'm sure they'll comb the shoulders of the main routes between Dorr and Hamilton pretty thoroughly looking for any sign that a bike might have gone off the road.

If I were still riding motorcycles, I'd pick the non-Interstate routes myself. I know it's a personal preference, but it is understandable why he may have not taken 196.

Updates from the FB page have reports he was seen on video from cameras at Bunker Hill (Restaurant) heading west on 142nd Ave. From the included map, this would be just south of Burnips.

Gosh, he was so close to home. At least they’re getting their search area narrowed down somewhat. Hopefully they get some news today.

My brother will always choose back roads to interstate when on his motorcycle. He will go out of his way to stick to lesser used roads with lower speed limits. Logan's choice of route makes sense to me.

MSM report that a body has been found my MSP during the search for LS. It's not confirmed yet to be Logan.
