GUILTY MI - Mariha Smith, 5, Detroit, 24 July 2011

Investigators say cause of death on the unidentified child was suffocation.

There were no signs of sexual abuse.

The autopsy determined that the cause of death was asphyxiation and the death has been ruled a homicide.

Skull damage was also found, but officials say that is often the case with bodies that have been found after a fire.

That would leave us with asphyxiated... and then burned to destroy the already deceased body. No beating... no assault...

I guess that could be revenge?? But it sounds more like someone closer to home.

There are other ways to get rid of DNA and Fingerprints with out setting the place on fire, and call all that attention to it.

And if it was .41 cent gas man, he had to risk leaving then risk walking with a glass of gas then reentering the house then once the fire started he had to leave really quick.

allot of work in that 4 hours, not to mention the Houdini act of taking of the child out the window, walking to the abandon house, doing what was done....

All in 4 hours...

There are no suspects in custody in the case of missing Mariah, but the family of the 5-year-old tells Action News one of the girl's aunts has not been heard from since she was taken in for questioning on Sunday. Detectives have questioned a number of people in connection with her disappearance, but no arrests have been made.

Cover-up for an accident or something done in anger? (little girl was making noise when someone was trying to sleep off alcohol/drugs?)

Not accusing the mom Maybe LE is trying to ascertain who all was at the party.

Wonder where the missing aunt is?

I'm taking media stories with a grain of salt - I've seen in so many cases articles that have been sensationalized, quotations truncated or taken out of context, and straight-up bias. Plus, this case appears to have many family members, all speaking to the media, but they may not all have the same information or have formulated different opinions of the situation.

While the media can be extremely helpful in raising awareness of missing children, I've seen too many inaccuracies and straight falsehoods to put much stock in news articles reporting investigations accurately.

No signs of sexual assault?
That changes things IMO.

I did see where one of the aunts was detained for outstanding warrants but in that report, a family member said she had since been released.

Hmmmmmmm is right!

I read that one aunt was taken in because she had warrants out but was later released. So many 'aunts' and 'uncles' to keep up with.

The mother of a 5-year-old who disappeared from her Detroit home this weekend said she is going to Sinai-Grace Hospital this morning for an oral swab so authorities can compare her DNA to that of a charred body found in an abandoned home.

Police, though, told the Free Press that a DNA sample was taken from Konesha Smith on Sunday and that she wouldn’t have to go to a hospital to provide a sample.

An official familiar with the investigation told the Free Press that Smith has said she couldn’t remember anything because she had been drunk and passed out on the couch after a gathering at the home she shared with her sister — and a polygraph test Monday indicates she was being truthful.

The girl’s aunt, who an official said had outstanding misdemeanor warrants, is still detained today for further questioning, the official said.

Why aren't they naming this official 'familiar with the investigation'?

In this video, when the person walking with Konesha says Konesha cannot talk...
It is right after the reporter asks about the Aunt still being questioned... and Konesha says "yes she is."
Then the other woman says they can't talk right now and takes continues walking her away.

In this one the reporter says that the Uncle doesn't believe the window story.
Because he believe the door was used and Mariha knew the person since no one heard anything.

Or at least providing a title.

There are many different types of officials.
