I took a nap and I'm trying to catch up. Did something come up that the ME has said that her skull wasn't crushed after all? That it was a heat reaction?
The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled a little girl found dead in a fire in an abandoned building died in a homicide due to asphyxiation.
But the identity of the little girl, estimated to be 5 to 7 years old, won't be confirmed until investigators receive DNA testing results, which could take days, Wayne County spokesman Dennis Niemiec said this afternoon.
"Her skull was crushed and she was burned, but the cause of death was asphyxiation," Niemiec said. "Whatever killed her occurred before the fire."

Crushed, to me, means taking a brick or baseball bat or cinder block or steel toed boot to a skull. For heat damage, I would have expected the ME to use a different word, if he/she mentioned it at all. They usually, in homicide rulings, only talk about the signs of deliberate abuse to the victim's body, not natural reactions.
