I cant listen to the podcast at work? Can anyone give me a breakdown of what she said?
I'll type out the transcript for you of what all was said. This is my typing it all out, but I'll try to make it word for word. Note- DD stands for Deminski and Doyle and JB stands for Jennifer Buchanan.
DD- 8:16 with the Monday morning in Detroit this is Deminski and Doyle. I'm Bill Doyle, and I'm Jeff Deminski. You know the name by now, because unfortunately this has just continued to be in the news and people are looking for her. The name of this 5 year old girl from Monroe, Nevaeh Buchanan is uh, going into it's 8th day, uh, as far as the search, there is many different persons of interest, leads that have been mentioned and then have all been discounted and we have Nevaehs mom, Jennifer Buchanan on the line. Hey, Ms. Buchanan. Thanks for making some time. I know it's hard, I know it's not an easy time for you.
JB- No, it's not.
DD- First of all, your little girl, who everyone has seen these photographs of Nevaeh and she just steals your heart, just the cutest little girl you want to see. This is going into day 8, according to the newspapers. Was this on a Saturday or a Sunday evening when you last saw Nevaeh?
JB- Sunday evening, day 8.
DD- Could you just walk us through that, briefly? What was happening, what was the last exchange you had with her and how you found out that she was missing?
JB- She came in the house, changed her clothes. She told me she was going back upstairs to her friends house, and that's the last time I saw her.
DD- And this is the friend, who's house she was going to, this is all in the same apartment complex, I'm assuming?
JB- Same apartment building, yes. Well, technically she wouldn't go outside at all if she was supposed to be upstairs at his house.
DD- Right. When did you realize that? What time was that, and when did you realize she was missing?
JB- It was like within 20 minutes. Then, another little girl who had stayed the night with me and she said that 'Nevaeh's riding her bike or her scooter in the road' and I assumed it was the parking lot so I got up and went outside to look for her and haven't seen her since.
DD- And all you found was that scooter?
JB- Yeah.
DD- Alright. Wow. So, obviously you must have called the cops right away? That night must have just been chaos.
JB- Well, not exactly right away. I spent about maybe a half an hour to 45 minutes actually looking for her. Um, I went to all her little friends houses thinking she was in one of their houses then backtracked where I went and took a walk to a store and then I went back to that store again and then I called the cops and realized she was nowhere to be found.
DD- Now, one person who everyone was looking at at first and now seems like there was this alibi and now maybe, maybe this was a waste of time even looking at this guy was your friend George Kennedy. Had you, had you even thought about George the night that she was missing to go over and check to see if he was with her or had seen her or anything like that?
JB- No comment. I don't want to talk about nothing else but my daughter.
DD- Ok. I mean I thought we were, but..
JB- uh huh.
DD- Alright. How is your mom dealing with this, because we've all seen her on the news as Nevaehs grandmom and I know this has just been terrible for her. Has she been ok?
JB- Yeah. Yeah we have each other. We're taking care of each other now more than anything.
DD- Are you getting the sense from investigators that they're closing in on anything at this point?
JB- I have a feeling that they have to know something, but as far as what, I don't know.
DD- Is that a tough part, being a mother in a situation like this, that there is a lot they won't share with you?
JB- I feel like there is a lot they are not telling us and they won't at this time. So, it's no matter how much I ask they, you know, they won't..
DD- You said that Nevaeh, and again, we're talking to Jennifer Buchanan that is the mom of the missing girl from Monroe, Nevaeh Buchanan. You said, the family has said that Nevaeh is a pretty cautious girl, kind of a shy girl, and that there's probably not any chance that she would've gone with any stranger without, you know, putting up any kind of fuss or whatever. Are you still feeling that 8 days in?
JB- Yes. She's not the type, she's not the type to just go with any kind of stranger whatsoever.
DD- So then you still feel that it was someone, whoever it is, that she knew from the neighborhood or something?
JB- Probably someone from around here. Not exactly technically my apartment complex, but it has to be someone from Monroe.
DD- There is an article in the Free Press today and it's talking about James Easter, this third person of interest, and what it says 'It's not known whether James Easter knew Nevaeh before she disappeared on May 24th'. Do you know, or can you say if there was any connection there? Do you know if James Easter knew your daughter?
JB- I don't know if he could've known my daughter. I've never seen him before, but he does take care of an elderly lady here so I'm sure that he's came across her a few times before.
DD- But, you didn't know him whatsoever?
JB- I don't know of him.
DD- Right. Ok and this was the guy, and I'm not trying to be upsetting to you, but wasn't this the guy because of reports I've read about this guy that at his own complex, that um, instead of sitting by the adult pool, he would hang out by the kiddie pool and no one would talk to him, or something like that. I thought that's what I've read. Does that sound familiar or do I have that wrong?
JB- I don't know. I mean, like I said, I don't know this guy.
DD- Alright. Are the search parties still going out? I know there was an incredible amount of volunteers.
JB- Yes, yes.
DD- Have you been out with them, or have you kind of shy'd away from that?
JB- I haven't been out with them. I've been with my own group that yes, we were separated from them. I would be out looking with about 15-25 with my friends, if not more. My personal friends helping me find her because they, they know me.
DD- And this of course is your only child?
JB- Yes.
DD- Now, I know one of the things you were quoted in one of the papers throughout this 8 day investigation that you were getting irritated with people asking you about you knowing people like George and Roy that they had been registered sex offenders. You said that that really didn't even matter at this point. Do you..
JB- I feel that it doesn't matter. Not all offenders re-offend. Um, no one ever knows if a person is a sex offender or not unless they are labeled.
DD- Right. When..
JB- Anyone could be a sex offender.
DD- Anyone could, but once it's proven that someone is and you know, even part of their agreement of their incarceration is that they aren't to be around children and such. Even if George Kennedy turns out to never had anything to do with this, do you wish you would've done things differently, looking back on this as far as having a relationship with him?
JB- I never really had a relationship with him. It was just a friendship.
DD- Well, even a friendship.
JB- In maybe 5 percent of the time my daughter wouldn't even be around..
DD- I thought, weren't you quoted as saying that like George Kennedy would be like a father-figure..
JB- Yeah. Yeah but there was also a lot of times where I knew he wasn't allowed to be around her and so I wouldn't have her around. There's a few times that he's seen and interacted with her, but I was there.
DD- So, he was never alone with her?
JB- No. Never alone.
DD- What about Roy Lee Smith? How long have you known him?
JB- Just a couple of months.
DD- And he was the guy that owned the van apparently. So, he was kind of like driving George Kennedy around?
JB- No, he wasn't driving George around. He was..he let George basically use his van or sold his van to him.
DD- Oh ok, gotcha. Gotcha. Ok, well is there anything more..and we're going to give this phone number to the sheriffs out but is there anything more that you'd like to say while you have a chance? Tell the public anything more about Nevaeh, or about what's going on?
JB- I would just like to say that whoever is listening I appreciate everything that they are doing in concerning my daughter and thank you is just beyond not enough and Nevaeh, if you're out there..mom loves you and we're going to find you.
DD- Jennifer Buchanan, thanks a lot for making a couple of minutes for us.
JB- Thank you.
DD- And again, if anyone has any information they're asking you to call 911 or call the sheriffs office and that number is (734)243-7070.
DD- Wow, I don't know. Wow, I don't know how you..I don't know if anyone has any reaction to that but I don't know how, as a mom of a 5 year old, how you don't think it's a big deal that you have your child around, ever, around a registered sex offender knowing they aren't supposed to be around kids. That to me is amazing and then you make these father-figure quotes. And just wow, really? That's just astonishing. I'm not saying the woman doesn't love her daughter, I'm just saying that's awful. I mean, is it looking like one of them is probably involved? Who knows about this third guy? It looks awfully suspicious if he's burning stuff after he's being questioned. It must be hell though, as the mother, to not be told by the investigators exactly what the status of the investigation is but of course that would indicate she (inaudible). I mean, yeah, anytime you have a case like this, you have to look close to the house as well and you know, I don't know..just what I've read, heard, seen on TV, but I don't know. It doesn't have that feel to me that she knew anything and I know she has taken that lie detector test and there had been reported, and they never got out which question it was, but there was one question that she had failed on the lie detector test and then I heard there was a repeat of the exam but I haven't heard anything more about that. I'm sure this science and technology is advanced but can you imagine staying calm. I know I know. And you know, again, I'm not trying to, you know, do like the salem witch hunt here, I'm really not..but man, um, even if George Kennedy and even if Roy Lee Smith don't have anything to do with the disappearance of this kid, it's still absolutely frustrating that someone would think that this isn't a big deal. (inaudible). Yeah, and if anything, I mean, how much time did they waste and if it turns out this James Easter guy is the guy, or if its just another person of interest, and there's another one who has yet to be identified, I mean, how much time did authorities waste sniffing up the wrong tree? Ugh, that's just a horribly sad case.
