Found Deceased MI - Omarion Humphrey, 8, Lake Callis, 4 Jul 2015

well, as someone who has 'almost' drowned many times (I can think of 4 right off the top of my head - 2 at the beach, 1 in a wave pool, 1 in a static pool), I can tell you that I was not silent 3 of those times [yes I am aware I should stay away from water]

however I do realize little Omarion probably didn't make any noise (I hated typing that)

I agree drowning is silent. Years ago my ex's fiance and her 9 year old daughter drowned. They were on an air mattress in a roped off area at the beach in 5 feet of water. Lots of people were swimming around them, but nobody noticed what happened.

This is a misconception. Drowning is silent and fast.

Personal experience: When I was 12 my cousin and I were out on the lake on a blow up raft. We were horsing around and my cousin pushed me off the raft. In the process of doing so she also fell offand let go of the raft - the wind blew it away from us. We took off swimming after it. She was a MUCH stronger swimmer than I. After a couple hundred feet I was tiring so I turned around and headed back for shore. I knew I was tired but had no inkling I was drowning. Thankfully my brother in-law happened to see me and noticed I was trying to swim and not doing it very well. He saw me go under the first time and started walking towards me. He saw me go under again and took off running into the water. Before he reached me I had gone under a third time and did not come back up. When he reached me he threw me over his shoulder and took me to shore. All I remember is swimming to shore and feeling tired and the next thing I remember is laying on my side in the sand vomiting lake water. When he reached me I was in shallow enough water that I could have stood up with the water only reaching my neck...but I was beyond knowing that and probably could not have stood even had I known. Later I asked him how he knew and he told me he had trained as a lifeguard and could tell by my uncoordinated movements that I was in trouble.

Enough about that....

I've been following this thread from the very beginning, even though I thought that my heart just could not take another lost child. Feeling so sad tonight...:(

Fly high young Mars...the angels have you now.

I completely agree with you. I don't feel he was there this whole time.

As a rule I try not to let myself get carried away with unusual theories, even though it can be tempting at times. In this case though I really do think he was in the water the whole time. I've seen too many of these incidents which end the same way and it never fails to amaze me how someone can be right under the nose of everyone searching for them and just be missed, whether it's in water/forest/a garden/wherever.

The fact that they kept coming back to search the lake, a total of six times, speaks to how difficult it is to search a body of water. Authorities obviously were pretty sure he was there, they just couldn't find him.

I was trying to make some sense of this and feeling so badly that Omarian's brief life ended like this when I realized he was having fun that day. it sounds like he was really enjoying himself at the splash pad especially (he had to keep coming back from there.) I'm going to think of him that way, happy and carefree instead of remembering him as someone who was failed or abused.

I like this Han. I'm going to remember him that way too. That his last hours on Earth were happy and he was having the time of his life!

Poor little guy. Never had a chance. I'm incredibly sad. But I believe his life MATTERED. It's too bad the adults around him failed him. I know parenting is hard believe me, but this just should not happen

BBM

I agree! His life did matter and he mattered. I hope that he somehow knew that, regardless of the failures of those who should have cared for him.

And now, Omarion is playing on the splash pad with the angels :)

Autopsy: No foul play in death of boy found in lake

The Flint Journal 5:38 p.m. EDT July 11, 2015

Davison Township — Authorities say an autopsy on the body of a 9-year-old boy that was pulled from a Flint-area lake found no signs of trauma or foul play.

Davison Township Police Chief Rick Freeman said Saturday it's likely Omarion Humphrey's body was in Lake Callis from shortly after he disappeared on July 4 until he was recovered Friday...

The "foul play" was lack of supervision to a mentally ill child.

The foster family should be charged for neglect as they allowed a disabled little boy to wander around unsupervised, despite being told to look after him. His death would not have happened if an adult had been watching Mars. I'm really angry at how this foster family have failed him.

The repeated warnings to the foster parents show how even strangers were concerned

I see your point but Autism is not a mental illness.
