I hope other children in this foster home have been removed and placed with other families. I have a hard time understanding why there are so many youngsters placed in one foster home. Seems like too many children to provide proper attention and supervision. :moo:

oh no!

they searched there so many times! :(

and wanted to chime in on the squalor. it sounds nasty but i have 3 kids and 3 step kids all boys and if i let the housekeeping go AT ANY POINT my house is trashed and it is so hard to get it back clean again. i cant imagine w the number of kids this family has. then again idk why she would want that many kids but thats none of my business.

Poor Mars, RIP.

They are not talking about a "messy" house! And, the parents didn't live there. They rented themselves a nice, tidy apartment. Disgusting excuse for "parents"

I hope so too. They probably have, and while that's a good thing for them (we hope) it's just another disruption in their lives and immediately following a tragedy in their family. Imagine you just lost your little foster-brother and now you have to go live in yet another different place. It's breaking my heart to think about.

There simply are not enough foster homes.

CPS wants to keep sibs together. How many people would take that situation on ?

Where I live, social workers have had children stay in their office as there is no place for them to go.

I am not saying the foster parents are doing even an adequate job. They did not watch a child by water. Who does not know to do that?

What do we do with all of these throw away children?

I see your point but Autism is not a mental illness.

While true, children with autism do develop mental illness. But it's really semantics. Thanks for informing me though.

If you are affected by either autism or mental illness it is NOT just semantics.

The new DSM created Autism Spectrum Disorder (http://www.dsm5.org/Documents/Autism Spectrum Disorder Fact Sheet.pdf) rather than have autism, Aspbergers, and PDD. In the new model, a person with ASD may exhibit signs of OCD, ODD, ADHD/ADD etc. While some of the fixating behaviors would still be considered part of ASD, the medications and treatments separating ASD and OCD (for example) are thought to make treatment plans more effective. As we live with the new DSM, I think we will see the tease out of how much a behavior remains within the ASD realm and when it kicks into other realms.

SOME children and adults with autism may have or develop co-occurring mental illness, but no-it's not semantics at all. It's stopping the spread of misinformation.

Dear Abby: Is Autism a Mental Illness?

Post published by Peter D Kramer on Jul 31, 2008 in In Practice

While we are on the question of disease labels I see that “Dear Abby” has been “corrected” by many readers(link is external) who find her “way off base” for misclassifying autism. In a prior column, she had called it a “mental-health disorder.” Now she accepts that she was mistaken. Because autism is “genetically predetermined — biologically based” or “neurologically based,” it is not a mental health disorder...

Do we know if the foster family were relatives of the boy

The identity of the foster family has never been released. Based on comments from Omarion's biological mother, I don't think they were relatives.

I, in fact AM affected by mental illness. I have a child with MDD, PTSD, ODD, unspecified mood disorder and self-harm. I'm not immune to mental health. If I mis-spoke, I'm sorry.
I consider autistic and/or aspy kids the same as my (mental health) child.
But again...thanks

ETA: I shouldn't say the SAME. But in the same category. We have to watch over them more carefully than other kids.

GENESEE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services now confirms multiple investigations are underway in the case of Omarion Humphrey - the missing nine year old found dead at Lake Callis Park on Friday after a nearly week long search.

DHHS is investigating Alternatives for Children and Families - the agency that placed Omarion - though no details are yet available.

The foster care agency itself is conducting its investigation of Omarion's foster mom Lulu Richardson's license - the results of which will then be shared with DHHS...

I feel that the bio-parents should share some of the responsibility for this tragedy. They should not have continued to have babies, 15 in all, when they had no way to care for them all. That is selfish and irresponsible, imo.

MOO lots of people let this little guy down. Plenty to go round.

Are Omarian's parents not considered victims in this case? Imo they are and they should be treated as such. After all they lost their child due to someone else's neglect and afaik they haven't been named as suspects or POIs or responsible in any way for his death.
