MI MI - Patricia Spencer, 16, & Pamela Hobley, 15, Oscoda, 31 Oct 1969

Here's a CBS news article that was published in 2014. It may have been posted here already, but I felt it worth bringing forward:
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/hallowe...o-vanished-from-oscoda-michigan-45-years-ago/

From the link
Initially, the girls were last reported seen walking away from Oscoda High School. In May of 2013, however, a witness came forward saying he picked up the girls as they were walking along River Road, which runs alongside the Au Sable River, and dropped the two off in downtown Oscoda. The man said he came forward to police with the information years ago.

Chief David has other information to indicate the girls were seen downtown that day. He doesn't believe the man who came forward is involved, he says, nor does he believe Pamela's boyfriend had anything to do with the disappearances.

He wouldn't say whether there are suspects in the case, citing the ongoing investigation

In the months and years prior to these two girls disappearing, there had been several killers of women operating in Michigan. The most prominent of them was John Norman Collins, but at the time of these girls' disappearance, he was behind bars awaiting trial for murder. Some at that time (and since) felt that Collins was not the Only killer of the Ypsilanti Co-eds, but that he had partners who assisted in crimes of which he was suspected.

There were also others since arrested and convicted of crimes against women and girls. And in addition to those "known" killers, there were many other men who were considered possible suspects.

Because of the very intensive search for killers at the time, perhaps re-examination of old investigative files might yield possible clues or suspects in this case.

Just checking out this thread. Bumping for the girls.

On this, the 49th anniversary of Pamela & Patricia going missing, I pray that answers be revealed to finally bring closure to this case. It has been so very long. Someone knows what happened to these girls.

There has been recent discussion and news about serial killer Arthur Ream's possible victims. I wonder if he was possibly involved in the disappearance of these two girls.

I think that Kimberly King was a Ream victim, but I doubt very much that these two girls were. The city is a couple of hours away from Ream's stomping grounds, and the disappearance occurred about a decade before Ream's first known murder. Also, Ream was only 20 at the time; few serial killers start that young. My money is on Pam's soldier boyfriend as the killer.

Bumping for Pamela and Patricia.
We are approaching the 50th anniversary of their disappearance. Somebody knows what happened that day. Praying for a resolution.
I have some thoughts and opinions, but with what little information that has been released, it is hard to say.
Too many unanswered questions.
Just like a previous poster, I do believe that they were looking to score that day. It was Halloween as well as a Friday.
I feel that the responsible person ( or persons) was at least acquainted with the girls.
I don’t know who they interviewed, but I feel that every living person in her class needs to be revisited.
I could tell a lot of stories about my old classmates, who dated who, the party spots, the pregnancies, the unstable homes, etc and I definitely knew the names of numerous town dealers as did many of the kids.

I think the local cops know something too—a least the guys who have been there a while do. I can't help but think that they're covering for someone who has influence within the community.

David said a new interview conducted several months ago with a man who was interviewed at the time of the girls’ disappearance, led to new information.

This is how cold cases are often solved - by going back and re-interviewing people, double checking alibis, etc. Posters & flyers, news interviews asking for tips, etc. aren't usually enough.

So often, we read in cold cases about witnesses, friends, tipsters, etc. who report they gave LE information that could have helped find a missing person or solve a crime, but the information was ignored or dismissed.

Here's where the gas station used to be, the intersection where the guy dropped them off

The date of the Google Street View photos is November 2016, close to the same time of year the girls went missing. It would have been pretty chilly that day and probably started getting dark fairly early. Not good weather to be hitchhiking.

These 2 Michigan Girls Went Missing 50 Halloweens Ago

From what I read as of December 2018, the police chief "Mark David" has been working hard on this case since 2010. Apparently there are people in the area that know what happened, but are afraid to talk, and the rumors about the girls hitch hiking off to Flint was malarkey.

Investigation into missing Oscoda youths still active

Here's a link to the Medium article referenced in your first link. It's from a year ago, but a good article.

Pamela Hobley and Patricia Spencer had a few things in common, they attended the same school, were…

The story regarding an old barn where kids used to hang out is intriguing. If that barn or the area around it exists undisturbed, maybe it would be a place to conduct a search using anomaly detection gear.

I feel that this case could be solved, at least partially if not completely. Somewhere in police files are clues that have yet to be connected, and someone knows something that for one reason or another has never been revealed.

If you go back to about the second or third page of this thread, there are links to news reports when they did search the suspected area, with no results. IIRC, they used dogs. Some skeletal remains were also found during construction work elsewhere in the area, but it sounds like the skeletons were much older.

There were earlier reports from friends that one of the girls wanted to meet up with her boyfriend. He was slightly older and either was in the military or was planning to go into the military. There were a lot of young men being drafted back then, it was in the midst of the Vietnam War.

JMO, probably weren't the reason these girls wentmissing. In a rural, midwestern area in 1969, there wouldn't have been many hard drugs around, if any. Probably some pot, maybe a little psychedelics, but in 1969, that would have been pretty rare outside a major urban area or big college campus. Speed, maybe, downers not likely. Hard drugs like heroin - highly unlikely, same for an overdose death. If it wasn't an accident of some sort (while hitchhiking?) it was probably related to sexual assault.

I hope someone comes forward with info or evidence.

Does anyone know where the Halloween Party that took place after the football game was being held? Did the party go on as planned? Did anyone at the party realize they were missing by that point?

I think it was related to either sexual assault or to statutory rape that led to a pregnancy.

I believe that one of the linked articles stated that the boyfriend called the Patricia's family to say that she never showed up at the Halloween Party. And the family made a number of phone calls to her friends trying to find her. If the party had been cancelled, someone would have said so. The story was that the girls wanted to attend it, but never showed up for it.

Cadaver Dogs were used many years after the girls' 1969 disappearance. I do not know how good those particular dogs were, but over time, chances of dogs locating a grave diminish. Anomalies in the ground, however, do not disappear unless major disturbance of the grave takes place - and they could still be located if buried.
