MI Rep John Conyers Sexual Harassment Payoffs

The guy who is in charge of overseeing these settlements has been being investigated for fraud.

Pennsylvania Congressman Bob Brady, who oversees the settlements paid by Congress for sexual discrimination complaints, is under FBI investigation for false statements, conspiracy and campaign fraud, documents showed Tuesday.

Brady, a Democrat, is a ranking member of the Committee on House Administration, which gives him power over settlement payments with taxpayer dollars. The office also works to prevent sexual harassment in Congress.

Jackie Speier: Conyers not one of harassers I mentioned last week

Last week, Rep. Jackie Speier said that she knew of two sitting members of Congress who have "engaged in sexual harassment." But the California Democrat on Tuesday said that Democratic Rep. John Conyers of Michigan, who is now facing allegations, was not one of the people she had referenced.

Speier is declining to reveal the names of the two sitting lawmakers -- one Democrat and one Republican -- out of deference to the victims and their potential legal restrictions.

Time to shine some light on these perpetrators of harassment and find out where our money has gone. I don't need to know who they harassed I just want to know where the money has gone.

The 17 million spent is not all for harassment but the fact that these lawmakers are settling issues makes me want to know where every dollar went.

Rep. John Conyers steps down from committee leadership position amid harassment accusations
by Kailani Koenig

WASHINGTON — Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., stepped down as the ranking Democratic member of the House Judiciary Committee on Sunday, following sexual harassment accusations.

The 27-term congressman said he denied the allegations, but was stepping down because of the ongoing House Ethics Committee investigation.

"I deny these allegations, many of which were raised by documents reportedly paid for by a partisan alt-right blogger. I very much look forward to vindicating myself and my family before the House Committee on Ethics," Conyers said in a statement...

Maxine Waters to women: John Conyers 'has impeccable integrity on our issues'
Nov 21, 2017, 9:14 AM

Rep. John Conyers, newly facing sexual misconduct charges from former aides, was praised by fellow Rep. Maxine Waters just last month as a champion of women.

During an address to organizers of the national Women’s March in which she lashed out at “rape culture” and President Trump, she singled out the Michigan lawmaker for special attention.

“You know, there is a member of Congress who has been supportive of women for many, many, many years,” said said in a keynote address to the Women's Convention Sojourner Truth Luncheon in Detroit.

“He is quiet, he is confident, he is powerful, but he has impeccable integrity on all of our issues. Give John Conyers a big round of applause.” C-SPAN captured her comments and those of others who spoke at the event.
===========================================================================================================

That^^ was just last month. Surely Waters knew what was up with Conyers at that time?

I think when someone is an honorable person, she may not realize what others are capable of.

When one’s mind is not used for dishonest things, one does not think that way.

A con is making a person a mark, while a normal person is making a person to person connection.

Maxine may have not been privvy to his sleazy side. He may have presented in a totally different way to her. We see that with people. Different sides for different people.

Sigh.

I'm so effing disappointed in the people we elected. All of them, whether they are from my party or state or another party and state.

Corruption leads to more corruption.

How to solve all this? Keep shining a light on it. We haven't heard everything yet.

NPR REPORTER COKIE ROBERTS: ‘EVERY FEMALE IN THE PRESS CORPS KNEW’ NOT TO GET IN AN ELEVATOR WITH CONYERS

AABC's Cokie Roberts appears to have accidentally admitted the Washington press corps covered up Rep. John Conyers' sexual predatory behavior.

Roberts said it was an open secret among female reporters that he's unsafe to be caught in close proximity to.

"Every female in the press corps knew that, right, don’t get in elevator with him," Roberts said recently of the embattled Michigan congressman. "Now people are saying it out loud."

Democratic pressure mounts on Rep. John Conyers to resign
by Kasie Hunt, Leigh Ann Caldwell and Geoff Bennett

WASHINGTON — Democratic pressure on Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., to resign from Congress mounted Tuesday as the number of sexual harassment allegations against him continued to grow and party leaders huddled in conversations about whether he should remain in the House, multiple sources tell NBC News.

A report in The Detroit News on Tuesday detailed allegations from a woman who said that the congressman engaged in aggressive sexual behavior toward her while she worked in his congressional office. Those allegations follow similar ones from other women and an admission last week from the congressman that he had reached a settlement with one of them.

In an additional sign that Democrats were dropping their support of Conyers, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi sent a letter to the House Ethics Committee, which has opened an investigation into the allegations against Conyers, urging it to act "expeditiously" in their investigation...

Conyers returns to Detroit amid harassment claims

The son of Democratic Michigan Congressman John Conyers says it’s disconcerting to see how his father is being treated in the wake of allegations that the longest-serving member of the House made unwanted sexual advances.

John Conyers III spoke to reporters early Wednesday outside his family’s Detroit home, saying it’s “very unfortunate to see him fight so long for so many people and to automatically have the allegations assumed to be true.”

Conyers’ son noted*that “with sexual assault, women are to be believed.” ...

Rep. Conyers hospitalized amid sexual misconduct allegations
by Adam Edelman

Rep. John Conyers, facing accusations of sexual misconduct and a House Ethics Committee probe, has been hospitalized in Detroit, his political consultant said Thursday.

Sam Riddle, the consultant, told WDIV-TV that Conyers, 88, was hospitalized due to stress and he blamed the "media assault" stemming from the allegations against the lawmaker.

"The congressman's health is not what it should be and a lot of that is directly attributable to this media assault," Riddle said, adding that "the reality is these serial accusers have done this before, we're used to it." ...

'He just violated my body': John Conyers' former staffer who accused congressman of sexual misconduct and then agreed to a settlement breaks her silence - but Democrat's attorney says he has no plans to resign

In her interview on Today, Brown described one specific instance, which allegedly took place in a Chicago hotel room in 2005, in which she said the married legislator undressed down to his underwear in front of her and bluntly propositioned her for sex.

‘He asked me to satisfy to him sexually. He pointed to genital areas of his body and asked me to touch him.

‘I was frozen shocked. I didn't want to lose my job, I didn't want to upset him. Also, he asked me to find other people that would satisfy him. I just tried to escape. I did tell him that I was not going to do that and I did not feel comfortable.’

The aide said she reported the incident to Conyers' chief of staff at the time, but no action was taken.
'He said he would talk to the congressman about it, he didn't challenge me in disbelief. He said he would talk to the congressman about his behavior," she said. "I didn't see any change because it continued after that."

Conyers hospitalized, Pelosi calls on him to resign
by Adam Edelman and Leigh Ann Caldwell

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Thursday upped the pressure on Rep. John Conyers, who is facing multiple accusations of sexual misconduct and a House Ethics Committee probe, by calling on him to resign from office — a change in her position from just days ago.

Pelosi's comments are a stark turnaround from her stance on Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press" when she praised the Michigan Democrat as an "icon," questioned who his accusers are, and said the Ethics Committee probe should be allowed to go forward.

"Congressman Conyers should resign," Pelosi told reporters on Thursday...
