Too late for a graceful exit. He missed his opportunity for that

So first it was he denied the allegations and was looking forward to vindicating himself, and then it was he will step aside during the investigation because of the attention by recent allegations, and now he is in poor health because of these allegations. I hope he’s not too ill to vindicate himself.

Isn't this dude almost 90? Sheesh!

Men never get over that. When I was a relatively young woman, a really, really old man followed me around a department store until I went into an aisle that had no other people and I turned around to walk out and he reached out and said 'You have fluff on your sweater' and pinched my breast, really hard. I should have done something about it, but I didn't. You know, don't want to make a fuss.

OMG, that's awful. Not that we would have ever done it, but I suspect some of the younger generation of today's women might just consider kneeing the old goat in the balls in response to behavior like that!

Supporters to rally for Conyers, call for ‘due process’

Supporters, constituents and politicians are planning a rally Monday morning at a Detroit church in a show of support for beleaguered longtime Democratic Rep. John Conyers Jr.

The event is open to the public.

“A myriad of people who understand a body of work that the congressman has done not only for the 13th District of Michigan but also for the nation,” said State Rep. Sherry Gay-Dagnogo. “He’s been a champion of justice, democracy and freedom.”

Conyers “should be entitled to due process” said Gay-Dagnogo, D-Detroit, on Sunday. “Our country is founded on those principles of being innocent until proven guilty,” said Gay-Dagnogo...

The oddest thing to me is that there is a not a standard of application for behavior unbecoming of an elected official. In one state we have people voting for a man who is accused and in another state we have people outside of his district calling for his resignation. There is something not right here.

IMHO, no one should hold office if there are moral turpitude issues with their behavior.

Thanks for the updates, BDE.

Reports: Conyers to retire, not resign, says relative

Embattled U.S. Rep. John Conyers will retire at the end of his term rather than seek re-election, according to his great-nephew, state Sen. Ian Conyers, who plans to run for the seat in 2018.

The younger Conyers discussed plans Tuesday morning with the New York Times and ABC News, explaining his grandfather’s brother will not immediately step down amid sexual harassment allegations by former staffers.

“He is not resigning. He is going to retire,” Ian Conyers told The Times. “His doctor advised him that the rigor of another campaign would be too much for him just in terms of his health.”

But Conyers’ lawyer, Arnold Reed, said he would not respond to “rumor and innuendo.”

“The congressman will make his decision this morning consistent with my previous statements,” Reed tweeted Tuesday. “I have not spoken to Ian Conyers, and no one is aware of the congressman's plans except he and I and his wife.” ...

New accuser: Conyers ran hand up thigh in church

Washington — Another woman who worked for longtime U.S. Rep. John Conyers is accusing him of touching her inappropriately “by stroking and rubbing my thighs” and appearing naked before her.

Elisa Grubbs, who said she worked for Conyers from 2001-13, claims she also witnessed him touching and stroking the legs and buttocks of Marion Brown, Grubbs’ cousin, and other female employees of the congressman on “multiple occasions.”

“When Rep. Conyers would inappropriately touched me like this, my eyes would pop out and I would be stunned in disbelief,” Grubbs wrote in an affidavit posted on Twitter by Brown’s attorney, Lisa Bloom.

Conyers, the longest-serving member of the U.S. House, has repeatedly denied claims he mistreated staffers...

I'm watching Conyers' interview with local radio host on CNN. He completely dodged a question about his personal health (he's been in hospital for a week).

Conyers endorses his son to run for what will be a vacant Congressional seat in 2018.

Interview has concluded. Conyers "retiring" effective immediately.
