Hunters find dead body in garbage bag, police need help identifying victim


SERVILLE, TWP., MI -- Hunters in Gratiot County found a bag in a ditch that contained the dead body of a man on Sunday, March 11.
According to the Gratiot County Sheriff's Office, the hunters found the body on Warner Road near Olive in Serville Township about 10:30 a.m. and immediately called 911.
Deputies and the Michigan State Police Crime Lab were dispatched to the scene and the body was transported to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing for an autopsy.
The autopsy revealed that the man was 60 to 70 year old, stood 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighed 185 pounds and had thinning medium-length brown/grey hair.
The man has a tattoo of an eagle on his right shoulder and a tattoo of a skull wearing a cowboy hat and handkerchief on his left shoulder. The skull tattoo is bordered by the written states of Texas, Florida and Michigan.
He appeared to have suffered a recent injury to a finger or fingers on his left hand. The middle and ring fingers on his left hand were taped together.

It appeared Counterman’s body had been there for a couple of days and was intact.
Police are still investigating what happened to Counterman.

No, I think they mean he had been in the garbage bag in the ditch where he was found for a couple days. They previously said the body was sent to Sparrow hospital for identification. I only copied the new info from the article, not the whole thing.

After the scene was processed, the Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested the man who lived in the trailer and charged him with open murder of Counterman.

From what I can decipher, this tattoo looks like it says "Michigan -- Texas -- Florida" around the skull with cowboy hat and ascot/bandana.
