PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Deputies are searching for a 61-year-old man who went missing from his Plainfield Township home almost a week ago.

Scott Weldon went missing July 19, according to the Kent County Sheriff’s Office.

His family has not heard from him and worries he could be a danger to himself, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies said Weldon might have been around Sand Lake in the morning on July 18.

KENT COUNTY, Mich. (FOX 2) - Deputies in Kent County are still searching for a missing man who may have been headed up north when he disappeared in July.

Authorities said Weldon was depressed at the time, and mentioned "going up north" to his family. He may have hitchhiked his way to northern Michigan. Weldon may be using a walking stick or cane.

Sadly, Mr. Weldon was found deceased. He had mailed a letter to his loved ones stating he was suicidal and his intentions were that he not be found. His death was ruled a suicide.

No sign of the 61-year-old had been found until a person walking in the woods on February 24, 2026 spotted skeletal remains in a heavily wooded area.
