Mitchell Blair was present without an Attorney

- Charges were read

- Not Guilty Plea entered on her behalf by the judge

- Next Court Date will be April 2nd @ 8:30am with Judge King

- Examination Date April 9th @ 1:30pm (There was some discussion about this date and its scheduling because of the Child Abuse Status)

- Pros requested a High Cash Bond 1 Million
- High possibility of Fleeing
- Charges may be upgraded to 2 counts of Murder in the 1st
- Asked for No contact with Friends/Family & Relatives/Neighbors in the Apt complex/ Surviving Children

At this point she tried to start talking to the Judge who told her to stop talking because she did not have and attorney present.

Bond and No Contact Granted

As with everything else in this case that was a Very Strange Arraignment! :thinking:

She is Mad! :behindbar She tried to talk/interrupt the Judge. Walked off the Video Monitor at one point !?! and could then be heard talking in the background ... something about her bond????

I hope one of the stations posts a Video of the Arraignment! This is No Lovey Dovey Lady!

Mom was babysitting for a neighbor that day the bodies were found. Did the neighbor find her normal? I would think the neighbor would not hire a ' stark raving mad lunatic' to watch her kids , right?
Any type of insanity defense is going out the window for this one. Sorry lady. You know what you did. You know it was wrong !

Detroit — A woman police say killed her two children and hid them inside a freezer was arraigned Thursday on child abuse charges, with prosecutors saying murder charges could be forthcoming.

Mitchelle Blair, 35, is charged with four counts of first-degree child abuse, a 15-year felony; and one count of committing child abuse first-degree in the presence of another child, a felony punishable by up to life in prison, in connection with the deaths of 9-year-old Stephen Berry and 13-year-old Stoni Blair.

"There remains a possibility that Ms. Blair's charges will be increased to murder in the first degree," said assistant prosecutor Carin Goldfarb on Thursday, asking for a "very high bond."

Magistrate Renee McDuffee oversaw the video arraignment before a mostly expressionless Blair. As McDuffee was setting bond, Blair stepped out of sight of the video camera, briefly interrupting proceedings...

Wow ! She looks ........ Well let's say what she does not look like. She does not look sad, remorseful, embarrassed, ashamed, regretful or maternal.......not even a little bit.

ETA We see way too many cases here where a parent is arrested for killing their child and they are usually ( the females anyway) crying. Whether it is crying for their child or crying for themselves , they are upset about SOMETHING. This gal is not upset about anything.

No. This is a local case that interests me, of course, but I'm not sure I will be able to "stomach" the gruesome details. I've followed several high profile child murders here on Websleuths, but this has to be the worst of the worst - unspeakable crimes by a mother upon her own children. I wouldn't even want to read a book about such crimes, but this is REAL and almost unimaginable.

I just can't. I just am so deeply saddened by the amount of violence will commit on their own children. I don't understand it. As a parent you do everything you can to keep them safe. The problem IMO is that people treat their children like they own them and not like they are real people. Children need more rights and more punishment when it comes to crimes against them.

Cops: Mom scalded son, strangled daughter, froze bodies

Detroit — Mitchelle Blair gave police gruesome details of how she allegedly tortured and killed two of her children nine months apart and left their bodies inside a freezer for another year, according to an investigator’s report obtained by The Detroit News...

...During questioning, Blair told Detroit police investigators she became enraged in August 2012 after finding out Stephen was allegedly sexually assaulting a relative, so she “placed him in a boiling hot tub of water until his feet blistered.” The report doesn’t say how he died, but that it happened on or about Aug. 30...

...Nine months later in May 2013, Blair told police she found out Stoni was allegedly sexually assaulting the same relative so “over the course of the next week, (Blair) assaulted (Stoni), starved her, serving her only a bowl of oatmeal a day and water,” the report said.

“Finally, they got into a physical confrontation when (Blair) strangled (Stoni) with a black shirt and suffocated her with a black garbage bag,” according to the report...
