from that latest link: Stoni's dad says he doesn't have a job or the $40K to pay in back child support (is it still owed if the minor child is deceased? hate to even ask that but I am curious how that works) but he will get a job and get custody of his younger daughter.

I know there is going to be a lot of things said about this father (Alexander Dorsey) but I am cutting him some slack now. Sometimes, major things happen in life that do change us for the better. I am holding out hope that this is one of them, for his younger daughter's sake anyway.

There is just nothing good to look forward to here for anyone involved at this point.

I will never forget these children. All of them. Ripple effects, we feel them...

For all his issues, He did not murder his child and shove them in the freezer and taunt the other kids with their dead siblings..

Dead beat dad? because he did not pay?? He is not the only one.. I have only seen one mother do this.

oh Carmen Harlan, how I adored you way back when - still doing her thang on Channel 4!

Thanks for this update BDE. And all of the others you have shared.

I think Carmen Harlan is beginning to ease herself into retirement. She has taken more time off in recent years than previously, and it seems Channel 4 has hired a gifted young anchor to replace her. Kimberly Gill has already filled in for Carmen Harlan several times since she joined WDIV last November. http://www.clickondetroit.com/kimberly-gill/29921802

Child support and custody shouldnt be tied to one another-I think he needs an income and stable environment to be able to take in his child...that's for sure. As for what he owe's bio mom, it will be interesting to see what the court decides. I wonder if separating the survivors is a good plan at the moment?

I am no expert but perhaps reviewing the EVIDENCE would help him decide a strategy?
He should really be familiar with the case before he determines any kind of strategy. :twocents:

Lawyer: Freezer case mom "OK"; working through issues
2:19 p.m. EDT March 30, 2015

http://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/local/detroit-city/2015/03/30/freezer-mom/70678118/

Mitchelle Blair, housed in an isolated Wayne County Jail cell, is contemplating the “challenges” she faces after being accused of torturing her four children and killing two of them before burying their bodies in a chest freezer, her lawyer said Monday.

.....

“She realizes she has some challenges to work through,” said attorney Wyatt G. Harris, who was appointed Friday. “I met with her, and she’s doing OK, but she recognizes there are things she needs to get through, and she’ll get through them.”

.........

“We are waiting for some further information from the medical examiner before we can determine any new charges,” Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor Maria Miller said Monday.

.........

Court records show Child Protective Services workers twice investigated Blair for abusing her children
, and that the abuse was substantiated, although she was allowed to retain custody. When doctors examined the two surviving children last week, they found them covered with welts and scars from repeated beatings, according to court records.

Gordon has said she knew there was some abuse going on with all four kids, but didn’t realize the extent. She said she often bought food for the children until she and Blair had a falling out after she insisted she start taking better care of her family. After that, she said Blair cut off contact.

SMH She is contemplating Challenges????? What does that mean? :gaah: She is figuring out the best "story" so she can attempt to manipulate some more???

It will be interesting to see what come out in the next month before they formally charge her with Murder 1......

And the Aunt says her she "knew" abuse was going on
 ??? A retired Abuse Investigator ? :banghead: She did nothing why????

So may failed these kids! :(

Insanity defense strategy was predictable. Not sure it will work. MB isn't insane - maybe crazy like a fox. Mitchelle knew what she did was terribly wrong but did it anyway :moo:

Like, she confessed. That could help him narrow it down as well ;)

DETROIT -
An eviction process was underway Tuesday at the Detroit home where two children's bodies were found in a freezer on March 24.

The bodies of Stoni Ann Blair and Stephen Gage Berry first were found by court officers who went to the apartment that day to serve an eviction...

Dead beat dad? because he did not pay?? He is not the only one.. I have only seen one mother do this.

I feel very sad for both of the fathers who lost their youngsters due to the mother's selfish actions. There's an online fund set up for the children's funeral expenses, but I will wait until I know which mortuary will care for the children and send a contribution toward their burials. :rose: :rose:

'Body hustlers' complicate kids' burial plans

Marney Rich Keenan, The Detroit News 9:49 a.m. EDT April 1, 2015

Planning a loved one's funeral with a grieving family can unearth complicated and deep-set emotions, even under the best of circumstances.

Which is why, during a quick break in the midst of meeting with the family members of murdered children Stoni Blair and Stephen Berry on Monday morning, Sylvia Ellis of Ellis Funeral Home let off some steam.

"You have to be very patient and very flexible to do this kind of work," she said to a visitor in her office. "You take nothing personally. You walk in humility."

She took a deep breath, grabbed a binder full of casket photos and headed back to a reception area where Alexander Dorsey, 35, of Detroit, the father of Stoni Blair and Steven Berry, 31, of Redford, the father of Stephen Gage Berry, along with a handful of female relatives, were trying to agree on the most despairing of all decisions: how best to bury their babies...

...Making the highly sensitive planning even more challenging was the apparent last-minute bidding of so-called "body hustlers"; purveyors of less reputable services circling the waters via cellphone during the meeting...

Murder, torture charges added for mom in freezer case

George Hunter, The Detroit News 4:27 p.m. EDT April 1, 2015

Detroit — The Wayne County prosecutor on Wednesday increased the charges against Mitchelle Blair from child abuse to torture and murder after the bodies of two of her children were found last week inside a freezer.

The 35-year-old mother will face two counts of felony murder, premeditated murder and torture. Both murder charges carry mandatory life sentences.

The child abuse charges still stand, Kym Worthy said in a release. Blair is scheduled to be arraigned on the latest charges during a probable cause hearing Thursday...

I had to take a break for a few days. Thanks to everyone for the updates. I am obsessing over these kids, not giving much thought or energy to the mom at this point.

Oddly enough, I have a relative who is a cameraman for one of the TV news stations in Detroit. He just arrived on this side of the country for a few weeks of vacation. He got here right after covering this story for his station as it broke in those first few days. I will see him soon and aside from explaining how I have been following this story, I won't want to hear what he saw. He was apparently pretty shaken up by it. And sure, news camera people see murdered and dead and beaten people more than the common folk, but I can't recall a case where a mom killed her kids and put them - whole bodies - in a freezer, etc.

I want to help these kids.
