That's pretty harsh. It's one thing for a judge to say NO, you can't leave ... but a whole other to put her on electronic monitoring!

DETROIT -- Christine Beatty's request to a judge to leave Detroit to look for another job was denied and she was ordered to wear an electronic tether.

Yea, but here's another way to look at it. with the way people disappear...and not "on their own" maybe this is his way of preventing it from happening to her.....She seems to have some sympathy from people..Why? I"m not entirely sure...She doesn't fall into the "innocent" aspect..She KNEW going into the situation what she was doing (IE He was married, She was married at the time, Kids, jobs, they BOTH lied about it etc)

But maybe it's because everyone knows kwame's will probably make her out to be the Luscious secretary who tied him to a chair and drugged and raped him, IE he was HELPLESS to her? LOL

*Note - I'm not laughing at those that are raped, but I can truly see Kwame crying it - and that is what I"m laughing at - that he would probably not only try it, but expect people to believe it**

Oh, Jada, and if you read those texts, she was way up in the corruption. Certainly, she held more power and sway over Brown's termination. And then there were the text for the contractor too.

IMO, no sympathy ... actually she looked like the power behind the throne.

I agree - BUT - you have Kwame's wifey who is going to be publicly humiliated when it all comes out..and she's a nasty women from what's been released. I can see her going after beatty imo. I'm by no means saying beatty is/was innocent, hell it's right there "in black and white" if ya kwim lol. BUT I can also see them both (the kilpatricks) putting her as the seductress and Kwame was "swept up in the moment"(s).....

Why the sudden change of heart of Beatty being able to leave the state and then to require a tether on top of that? At the arraignment she was granted the right to travel as long as she gave the court notice. Now she asks to visit her dad and look for a job and bam! Court ordered electronic monitering. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, just that it's 180 degrees from what was granted before.

  • #365
Ah ok, so Beatty was making plans to travel and had not yet informed the court prompting the judge to call the hearing. I was thinking it was the other way around that Beatty was merely notifying the court of her plans and they turned her down.

From Wayne County Prosecutor...

MAGISTRATE CHANGES BEATTY’S BOND

Today 36th District Court Magistrate Steve Lockhart called lawyers for the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, attorney Jeffrey Morganroth and his client Christine Beatty to appear in court at 1:00 p.m. today. Magistrate Lockhart did not specify the nature of the hearing.

Once the parties were in court Magistrate Lockhart informed the attorneys that Ms. Beatty made plans to leave the state allegedly for a job interview. Ms. Beatty failed to provide the pre-trial division of the 36th District Court with specific travel information under the conditions of her bond. As a result Magistrate Lockhart continued Ms. Beatty’s $75,000 personal bond and modified the conditions of bond to: 1) No travel outside the State of Michigan, and 2) Ms. Beatty is required to wear an electronic tether.

And it was a SECRET court proceeding. Every time I think this story just can't get any better ... it takes a twist and it does!

http://freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080404/NEWS01/80404058
Free Press attorney Herschel Fink called the closing of the courtroom to reporters “grossly improper” and a violation of the court’s own rules, state law covering open court proceedings, and the Constitution.

“This is outrageous, absolutely outrageous,” Fink said when he learned of the closure.

ROFL ... with her memory "refreshed" Valerie Colbert-Osamuede, now "remembers" signing the "secret deal" contrary to previous testimony. Her memory was "refreshed" the day after she was ordered to turn over all her emails.

Valerie Colbert-Osamuede, the city's chief assistant corporation counsel, wrote in a letter to Wayne County Circuit Judge Robert Colombo Jr. that she now recalls signing a confidential settlement agreement Oct. 17 and that she also received subsequent e-mails about that deal.

This is where my non-profit experience helps. It's not uncommon for someone to set up a non-profit in a secret name to make it difficult for people to find the information that must be publicly reported. So, what they do is operate under a "generic" name like "Detroit Justice Fund" and are actually filed under a different name like "Michigan Friends for Equality".

Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's legal defense fund has suffered its second setback in the week since he announced its creation.

A St. Clair Shores man said he plunked down $20 with the State of Michigan to register the name the "Detroit Justice Fund." That's what Kilpatrick had said he would call the account he would use to defray the sizable legal expenses he is anticipating as he defends himself against eight felonies.

Ralph Sherman told the Free Press his purpose was twofold: to see whether the mayor had incorporated the fund and to make mischief.

Oh this is rich . . .

The memo is clear -- remove all televisions from working areas -- but the picture gets fuzzy when officials are asked to explain why the sets have been carted out from several Detroit police district stations over the past week.

At the Central District on Woodward, Cmdr. John Serda issued a memo ordering that all televisions should be removed from working areas by Friday.
.........
WHY REMOVE TV SETS?
..........
But several police officials, who requested anonymity for fear of retribution, say the scuttlebutt around the department is that Dunlap issued the order after learning some officers watched and cheered during the TV broadcast when Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced criminal charges against Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his former chief of staff Christine Beatty.

Fleming-Freeman denied that rumor. She said the televisions were removed for training purposes :waitasec: but would not elaborate. "This is about work," she said.

Oh, this is an interesting news morning. Here's more info on Bobby Ferguson and his relationships.

http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080405/METRO/804050330/1408/LOCAL

Meanwhile a city contract reviewed by the Detroit News on Friday showed that the mayor's cousin, (Elizabeth A. Benson) in one of her first acts as head of the Detroit Building Authority, gave a $153,266 contract to Johnson Consulting Services, LTD, which is run by Ferguson's wife, Marilyn Ferguson.
......
Minutes from the 1990s through 2007 were contained in the library file, which is supposed to be maintained for public viewing, but records from December 2002 through February 2004 were not included. Library officials did not know why they were missing.

Christine Beatty, the mayor's former chief of staff, was the board chairman when the contract was approved.

Is Bobby Ferguson the guy that was in jail and violating work release AND was doing city contract work? I think he is the one Fox 2 news had an undercover investigation on? Since all this stuff has been going on for the last couple years (or more), I am having a time keeping all the names straight. Thanks in advance if anyone knows.

I did watch a little news coverage last night on Channel 4 Detroit, it's covered on www.clickondetroit.com , about the Beatty hearing. The snippets shown, seemed to show that the magistrate didn't have much tolerance for Ms Beatty holding herself "above the rules". They also said that she will have to pay for the tether out of her own pocket and I believe they said it will be put on her Tuesday of this upcoming week.

I just pray that they are able to find out the truth behind Tamara Greene's mysterious death. I have a feeling that on the way to finding out about Tamara's death, there will be a lot of other information that comes out.

Detroit is a beautiful city, there are many beautiful people who live there and many people who are continually working to make it a better place to live and visit.

The news also reported that Kwame Kenyatta (sp) is holding a "rally" this week in efforts of getting the other Kwame to step down. I sincerely hope a lot of people show up for this rally.

Just rambling about the TV sets in the Police Department . . .

I'm surprised Fleming-Freeman put herself out there with this one. I'm waiting for the shoe to drop on her with Worthy filing the same charges against her as were filed in Kilpatrick and Beatty's cases. Seriously, was way up in the texting scandal: http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080323/NEWS01/303230006

Finally, I believe Fleming-Freeman was being 100% honest when she said that the TV sets were removed for training purposes. She is training the department that SHE is the one still in charge. She sent them a message, loud and clear, that she will not tolerate anyone stepping out of the Kilpatrick party line. Taking those TVs was a threat to the PD to straighten up and support the admin ... or else ....

Yep, that's the guy. It's nice to have local eyes and ears bringing info to this thread. Quite frankly, sloggin' through the local message boards gives me a pounding headache.

I'm not sure that they'll ever really solve Tamara's murder. I'm not even sure that anyone is really actively working on the investigation. My only hope is that even if it remains unsolved, that those responsible or complicit in the cover up will be brought to justice!

Is there a pattern here? Kilpatrick seems to be able to inspire blind loyalty to women with hyphenated names.

The undercover news piece about Ferguson was pretty interesting, it's hard to remember the details, but apparently he didn't have to follow the rules of a normal work release. I really think the local news stations have been digging up all sorts of stuff over the years and hopefully most of it comes to light soon.

When I was watching the news a couple of weeks ago (near the time of Kwame's address to the city) a reporter walked up to "the mayor" and asked a question and Kwame pretty much shoved the reporter out of the way. He has no apparent people skills that I can see. Unless of course dressing like a gangster/moonshiner in zoot suits, fedora hats and a mink draping over your shoulders counts as a "people skill"? (I left out the rather large diamond studs he sports.)

The man in St. Clair Shores who took the name of the Detroit Justice Fund was kind of interesting to listen to. At the end of that portion, the donations he's recieved included a Chuck E. Cheese ticket and a major cash contribution in the full ammount of 2 cents. Yes, someone mailed in 2 pennies! I can't remember what he said he would do if there was any type of real donation, but I am sure Kwame and company will find a new name and register it this time- using the proper channels.

I have faith that Tamara's murder will be solved- I pray so at least. Detroit is not a city of animals, and no murder should have to go unsolved or unpunished. I pray the family of Tamara gets the answers they deserve.

I love that someone donated their two cents.

Regarding, the name of the organization ... I would bet it was already named and registered ... Just NOT as the Detroit Justice Fund. It's a shell game to hide the real name of the organization so that people won't see who donates, how much, and who benefits and in what ways. Everything needs to be reported and tax returns are published online. The easy way to hide the information is to have the organization under another name.

I've heard of people raising money in the name of the charity I work for and not hand over the proceeds. Or, they'll give us $500 and say that $25,000 went to administrative costs.

ETA: one time a guy left us his estate. After everything was said and done we got $25.00.

Boyz mum, that's funny about the 2 cents and Chuck E. Cheese tickets. Maybe someone can start a campaign to get as many people as possible to send play money in. You know, the kind you can buy at the dollar store?

Golfmom, thank you for the links the morning. You've certainly given me lots of new info to consider.

That was one I forgot, someone did send in a $100000 dollar bill, in play money. The 2 cents made me laugh, I am always looking for ways to get my 2 cents in...

I am sorry if I offend anyone when I talk about Kwame's choice of attire.

One time a city near Detroit elected a mayor who dressed in motorcycle garb. He is currently in prison for molesting a young girl or several (at least I think he's still in prison). "Ajax" Ackerman is his name. I am really wondering if electing our mayors based on their "image" is the way to go. Call me old fashioned!
