I had to quit watching, it was breaking up too badly. The scary thing for me is a know a number of women just like her.

She's cutting her own throat here. Her strong support of Kilpatrick along with these closely watched hearings will have voters, casting their votes elsewhere!

Not to mention she's making herself look like a nut.

The kind of woman who 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 and moans about women having it hard and the man trying to keep them in their places. And then when she does get any kind of high position does more in 5 minutes to set women back than any man has done in 20 years. Oh boy.:o

I really feel that they're getting to the heart of this matter and that's why Monica Conyers threw a hissy-fit today. Johnson's claims that he didn't know about the text messages, as the person who's duty it is to inform and represent the city council stretches credibility! When it was known that Stefani had the text messages, it obviously threw the city and Kilpatrick lawyers into a tailspin. Bet your bottom dollar, that cell phone records will show a flurry of phone calls between all the principles at the time.

...
Corporation Counsel John Johnson ..... "This was a high-profile case, but let's be clear, I delegate authority to my chiefs and let them supervise their respective divisions in the law department," said Johnson, who later added his litigation background was limited and that his job is to manage the department.

Chief assistant corporation counsel Valerie Colbert-Osamuede led the city in negotiations of the settlement. She testified before the Council Thursday.

Council President Ken Cockrel Jr. said Johnson's testimony showed "a lack of truthfulness or a lack of competence."

"And either one is very, very scary," Cockrel said.

Golfmom, kinda makes me wonder if Conyers is in those flurry of phone calls and text messages.

ROFL ... I didn't even go there. But, you're absolutely right! She's the one shouting that the messages were no different than a gun to the head of the city to settle.

It would make sense that Kwame's people would want someone from the inside to persuade the council to vote favorably on the settlement.

Interesting article this morning on the council investigation. After Johnson's testimony (i.e., I know nothing, I see nothing, NOTHING!) it's amazing to me that CONYERS of ALL people support him. She screams at Stefani that he was extorting the city, and applauds Johnson as a hero. I'm not sure how she logically got to the idea that he "saved" Detroit, considering he denies knowing anything of the deal. :waitasec:

.....
Council President Ken Cockrel Jr., who called a recess in the hearings earlier Friday after an outburst from Councilwoman Monica Conyers, said he learned of two changes that need to be made now:

Council must wrest power from the mayor's office to hire and fire the corporation counsel, and future lawsuit settlements must be presented in much more detail to the council before it approves the payout, he said.
.....

Conyers was a lone voice of support for Johnson's decision-making, suggesting he was merely saving the city and council money and embarrassment by settling the cases.

Earlier, Edwards, a longtime attorney who had done work for the city, said it was possible the City Council could sue the attorneys who represented them for malpractice as a way to recoup some of the settlement costs.

It's interesting to see the blame game and CYA starting. My understanding of what started the spat yesterday was another council member kept stating she voted against the settlement. Conyers asked Johnson, IIRC, "Can we be sued for this?" That other council member spouted off, "YOU can be sued, I voted NO" lol. At that point Conyers became unglued.

Some of Conyers' notorious clashes

Councilwoman Monica Conyers has been in skirmishes before her verbal smack-down with council President Ken Cockrel Jr. on Friday:

Feb. 13, 2008: Mayoral staffer DeDan Milton tells police that Conyers "threatened to shoot" him "with a gun" at a pension board meeting. Sam Riddle, then Conyers' chief of staff, says Milton cursed first, but notes Conyers responded "in street lingo. It was on." No charges were filed.

Nov. 28, 2007: Conyers, temporarily chairing a council meeting, tells two colleagues to stop bickering. "Well, at least it's not at the bar," says one, Sheila Cockrel. Conyers retorts, "Did you say something about a bar? Because you drink a lot at the bar when I see you." A bit later, when Ken Cockrel returns to preside, he chides the others for arguing. "It's not that serious," Conyers replies. "Drunks always have something to say."

Dec. 20, 2006: Conyers brawls with another woman at the Crossroads Lounge on Livernois. Rebecca Mews says Conyers arrived at the bar and began asking patrons to buy her a drink, including Mews' date, which led to fisticuffs between Conyers and Mews.Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy later rules Conyers acted in self-defense.

2005: The Detroit News reports that Valecia Moore, a friend of Conyers, filed for a personal protection order, contending Conyers threatened to kill her. "There was gunshots behind my house following that conversation," Moore told police. The order was denied.

I seen an interview with Conyers after the meeting. You have to watch it, the one thing I remember her saying is the media can make it look good, or the media can make it look bad. Nope, Ms. Conyers....anyway you look at it, it makes you look like an ignorant, uneducated, loud mouth, disrespectful @ss. Sorry, but, what does Kwame have on you. I bet he sweet talked her and who knows what will be uncovered if they dig deep enough. My spidey sense tells me she is scared, too. No wonder Detroit is in such bad shape, look at the majority of the leaders, they are crooks disquised as politicians.

In the news snippets of the conference, Ms. Conyers called Cockrel (I think that's who it was?) "Shrek"... what the heck did that mean? I honestly can't figure out how adults who are supposed to be working in Detroit's best interest can act like such fools. Ms. Conyers seems to be able to do a fine job of making herself look bad- the media certainly didn't cause her to turn into a 6 year old calling people names. Shame on her.

So today it appears the city council totally humiliated Kwame by refusing to hear his budget plan publicly.

Also, the Police Union says "one for all and all for one" if one TV's removed, then remove them all! IMO, this was Chief Ella Bully-Cummings' (hyphenated name) tactics to enforce her will and control.
http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080412/NEWS01/804120311/0/NEWS01

The Detroit Police Officers Association filed a grievance against the department Friday for removing some televisions from district buildings, while leaving the sets in command staff areas.

The union's sergeant at arms, Cheryl Smith, told the Free Press that the grievance centers on unfair treatment and unfair labor practices.

"We're not saying they should have the right to watch TV," Smith said. "We're saying if you're going to remove one, you're going to remove all of them -- including the command staff."

DETROIT -- A federal judge expressed annoyance Monday when a city attorney said Detroit government no longer has records showing which employees were using which city pagers at the time an exotic dancer was shot to death in 2003.

As part of a federal lawsuit, lawyers for the son of Tamara "Strawberry" Greene are seeking text messages that employees sent and received on city-issued SkyTel pagers.

But Krystal Crittendon, a lawyer for the city, said records showing which employees carried which pagers were shredded after the city stopped using the devices in 2004.

How very-very convenient.

Rosen also ordered the city to turn over Greene's homicide file to him for private review by Friday.

And he told the city that if he doesn't receive information about which employees carried which pagers, he will have no choice but to tell SkyTel to turn over all the text messages for all city employees. "We're going to get to the bottom of this," he said.

Norman Yatooma, Flagg's lawyer, asked Rosen Thursday to order the city to show why it should not be sanctioned or found in contempt of court. The city has failed to turn over Greene's homicide file and records that will help locate text messages from city-issued SkyTel pagers that might be relevant to the case, Yatooma argued in a court filing.

Well that didn't work out well for the city. I like Judge Rosen.
